for the saddest death Itachi or Jiraya as Itachi was told you take care of sasuke but truly he spared him out of true bond of a brother as for his best friend was his own friends sacrifice and it was all DANZO THAT DARN HACKER the two fingers for Itachi be his true power but Jiraya he died in battle and almost had a meaningless death but he gave a code and thats how Jiraya saved the world
