If you are talking about the one on the gear shifter, this is how it is used:
This truck has 10 gears, the first 5 are called low gears, and the second 5 are called high gears, to engage the low gears you have to push down the button, to engage the high ones you have to push it up, the same way is when you are reducing gears but when reducing you need to rev the engine in neutral, this means (clutch) then shift to (Neutral) then (rev/press once the acceleration padel) then shift to (next down gear).
A tip : if you want to reduce the speed earlier, use the engine brake.
