Backwards ending would be extremely hard if it was a stage because it would be impossible but they could make it so that you need to be in the right spot for each closed shape

It's taking you from the top, back to the beginning. Remember the beginning. When any of us couldn't last for more than fifteen seconds on Hexagon.
Now imagine this being a level you had to complete. And in order to complete it you can’t just play past 60 seconds but have to play through the entire song. 🤯

All this Life speeding up theories, Here's mine. The levels are you playing through are the big crunch (the universe collapsing in on itself) and then the ending is the universe exploding as the big bang letting another cycle of the universe start.
