I am a adult student. I agree with the 50/50 approach. I always do method first and then work on a piece. If I really get into working on the peice I may spend more time on it. Always do method first that guarentees that you spend time on that.

Thank you for this, and your other videos. I am going through Alfred's on my own and, although I know yours are just estimates, it is really helpful to me to have an objective sense of my progress.

The only method books you'd need are Notebook for anna magdelena bach and the nannerl music book

If I completed Alfred’s 1&2 could I jump into Faber adventures level 3? Or should I stick with Alfred’s Level 3?

Could you list some method books and supplemental pieces for beginner adults? I’ve been playing piano for about a month and have some previous experience reading music from 7 years of playing the saxophone.

    Hi Alysia,
What is a good way to improve finger independence?
    I found Dohnanyi’s etudes helpful.

You make me realize I've never used method book for piano. Maybe I should at some point, but I think it's a teacher call.

So when they finish the last method book of Alfred and Faber, is there any other method book to help guide the student who has reached this level?

Hello Allysia, I have a question about piano related injuries. I am an adult learner and it has been 18 months since I started learning. During weekdays, I practice about 1 hour/day. During weekends I sometimes play for 4~6 hrs. A few months ago, I started getting back pain (shoulder, neck, and low back). At the start, I didn't think piano was the cause (like, come on, it's piano not weight lifting) so I went to caropractors but the pain just kept coming back causing problem during my day time work and night time sleep. It was until when I stopped playing piano for a whole week that I got relief from this back pain. Now it becomes somewhat terrifying for me to keep going with my daily practice. Could you offer some advice for this? Thank you :D

Hi, my question is basically the same as the Pietro's, how do I make a buy decision on a digital piano? The internet confuses me and the shops just want to sell something. I was thinking Casio CDP-130 or Yamaha P-115 but I don't know how to choose and I know it's not just about the $. Thanks for any advice you can offer :)

Hi Allysia. Could you make a video giving us hints of nice electric pianos by expenditure ranges? I'm upgrading from my Yamaha PSR-E343 keyboard to something with weighed keys and a bigger keyboard, cause these 5 octaves are very limiting (and I just started taking piano lessons on a real piano, so I can't stand the feeling of getting home and playing on these flimsy keys). Thing is, I don't really have much to spend and the good electric pianos like Roland and such seem kinda pricey.. Do you have any suggestions on that? Or maybe just some essential features that we should look for in a device, so as not to buy something that will still limit or hinder our learning...
    Thank you very much!

Learn the intervallic reading of notes. What books do you use? Piano adventures and music tree teach that. There are a lot of things on internet too. Just google
