One of my favorite blue cards is gather specimens. It's expensive to cast but if you time it right you can steal an opponents game ender and you even get the enters triggers on it. Works with big token generators too and gets around can't be countered.
I really like Polymorphist's jest, so Amphibian downpour is my jam. It doesn't remove abilities, but [[Flatline]] from the DrWho set is a nice budget alternative sub 1$
The funniest one imo is Exchange of Words. Best use is stealing a commander or creature that synergizes with your deck, while simultaneously having rando tokens that have no textboxes I use it in my Alela Cunning Conquerer deck, and i once used it against a Sephara, Sky's Blade
Love Ovinomancer. I'd definitely use him in a deck that likes to stop ETBs or clones. I also loved coming back to Magic and finding out Ovinize exists.
@@grantmurdock7385 it’s pretty hard to stop clones with ovinomancer though, because you have to guess what they’ll be cloning. Most clones (those templated like clone or phyrexian metamorph) don’t target, they just enter as a copy of a creature. If you want to stop an opponent from copying something specific, you can ovinize it, but they can choose to have their clone enter as a copy of the next best thing on board. That’s better than nothing, but still not great. Also, the ETBs still happen even if you ovinize the creature; they’re put on the stack before you get priority to target with ovinomancer.
Amphibian downpour is amazing 💙🐸✨ Most of the time I get at least 3 frogs The ones below $1usd I use are Resculpt, Wash Out, Echoing Truth, and "You come to a River". Im also ussing Utter Insignificance, It has flash, turns a thing into a 1/1 without abilities, but also has an option to pay mana to exile the creature.
Pretty sure if you have haste available for your creatures, you could just activate Ovinomancer to pop a thing before its sacrifice effect triggers and just bounce it back to your hand, too.
My favorite blue removal is mystic reflection. You can target a shitty creature on the field in response to a creature being cast and that creature will enter as a copy of it. This is a more permanent Eaten by Pirhanas type effect that will effect creatures that enter for the entire turn and you can use it on your turn to get one or more copies of the best non-legendary creature. Also has fortell! Super underrated since it gets around cant-be-countered while also preventing cards with really strong ward or when-enters effects from hitting the board. Edit: also hits planeswalkers!
Recently learned about whiplash trap. I have a keruga deck which is in need of cheap removal, and this card seems like a no brainer there. Plus, remove 2 creatures for 1 mana seems like an incredible rate
Amphibian Downpour has been an auto include for most of my decks since I saw the MH3 spoilers. But so far it has found a definite home in my Master of Keys deck where I can theoretically recast Amphibian Downpour on each of my opponents turns assuming ive got the cards in discard to feed the escape cost
Amphibian downpour is to this day the card that has created the most back breaking win for me of all time and I love it so much for the 5th dimensional mtg I was playing that night

i like counterspells that are not really counterspells. like Hurkyl's Final Meditation and Gale's Redirection. ending turns is fun, and exiling spells is totally different than counterspells. ohh, and steal spells are cool too :D
I always watch these type of videos and nobody ever brings up this card. A basic bounce spell with the alternative use of target wiping any problematic tokens. Echoing Truth {1}{U} Instant Return target nonland permanent and all other permanents with the same name as that permanent to their owners’ hands.
I am fairly new so I am always looking for budget options to add to decks when I can't really buy cards like force of will lol. Thanks for the suggestions.
That ovinmancer is garbage 3 mana and sac 3 lands to basically change one of their creatures into a 0/1.. im hard pressed to find reasons that this might be superior over commons that do similar for less mana without sacking any lands
@@priscillaquinn9505 you can choose not to return the lands and activate ovinomancer with the etb trigger on the stack. Ovinomancer returns to your hand before the trigger resolves, and then you choose to not bounce the lands. This would normally make you sacrifice the ovinomancer, but it’s not longer on the battlefield. The card was intentionally designed to work that way. (Again, to clarify though, this only works if you can give ovinomancer haste)
