    The cooler lid opens up the full way because you can use it for a table ... hence the cup holder indents. Also it has less space than the tool box because of the way coolers are built.

    holds ice for 30 hours? that maybe in the north of the country because here in Arizona it may last 8 hrs max.

    • @dixonwa1
      @dixonwa1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep here in AZ if water can get out hot air can get in. Will get 8 hours if lucky.

    Thanks for the video Vince. Just saved me $100. Wouldn’t waste my money on this just bc it locks on to my tool box. Appreciate you doing this bc I was looking at getting one.

    I went ahead and grabbed one despite the leaking and tested it out yesterday in 94 degree weather for an afternoon at the river. My cooler did not leak one bit. I would guess there was about 32 ounces of water melted and tipping it on the side, sloshing it back and forth like you did not get any water leakage. Perhaps you got a bum unit? Overall I’m happy with it.

    Wow I almost bought this cooler but Milwaukee needs to make one that doesn’t leak first.

      @zack6892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mine don’t leak at all after watching this I did the same test with no leak. If you push the lid down before you clamp it shut it makes a seal you can feel the vacuum when you open it next time.

    • @ThatCleanMT
      @ThatCleanMT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bought one and took it out yesterday for a few hours. Let ice melt and did this same test in the video. No water leakage at all. I’m guessing he got a bad unit.

    Looks like the lid is a tray. Sit the cooler next to you and flip the lid over your lap. (If you have to sit on the ground to eat) the little indent looks like a cup holder.

    Thanks Vince! I just bought my first Milwaukee combo set (not at full price!) and thought of adding this to my set. Luckily, I watched this video first. I live in Arizona where it’s currently 115 degrees, no joke, and that ice wouldn’t last I hours with a leaking lid. Awesome video as always.

    • @wilbready
      @wilbready 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also looks like the top of the lid accepts the batteries for storage. Did VCG Construction test that too?

  • @tumelin
    @tumelin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It looks like it could be nice and I like the tray in top to keep a sandwich or something else getting crushed but I would hardly call that ice retention at 30 hours. Too many manufacturers not just Milwaukee embellish the capabilities of their products way too much. I use an igloo round cooler that actually retains usable ice through the next day even when left in my van overnight and when the lid is locked in place it doesn't leak if you tip it over.
    Hopefully you can do a longer term use review after having it for a few weeks and let us know how it holds up and compares to your existing cooler. The price on this seems pretty steep for what seems like a subpar cooler that can latch onto packout boxes. As always great video.

  • @tnsnorte

  • @ManCaverTools
    @ManCaverTools 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't expect that to be water tight, the gasket does its job and prevents as much water as it can to come out for average use. it drizzles out of the seams instead of being a water fall. I love that cooler I gotta pick one up for the rest of my packout stuff that I didn't even flip yet.

    • @ManCaverTools
      @ManCaverTools 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that cooler was to be water tight it would have 4- 6 locks along the side of it instead of 1. That cooler is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. and great review you guys

    I tell you that much Vince. This coolant box is not for free ice inside.. Do you know this special plastics ice cartridges? The once they not leaking after they turnin into a water? I think this coolant milwaukee box is made that for. So the gasket in this box is made more for dust or just rain outside protection. Not to prevent leaking any water inside the box. Thats my point. Anyway this tool accesory is handy and looks good to me :) nice one Vince and see you on the next one! (yes i did smasht the like button and i have 7 years of luck :D )

      @VCG Construction. You may have a challenge or test here Vince. On one of your next tests with a circ saw, put this Milwaukee Packout cooler in the path of all that sawdust and see how well it keeps the sawdust out. I'll see if Milwaukee comes out with a 2.0 version with a place for a lock. Your crew must not mooch your or others lunches or brewskis so no need for a lock. Just sayin.
      Hope you and your family stay safe and well 🙏

    This is the type of thing that I think is really only worth it if you need/can make good use of the packout functionality. If you've got some packout mounts in the bed of your truck then the leaking isnt an issue and you can keep all your stuff organized. I have trouble investing in any cooler that expensive, but at least the packout adds some functionality to it.

  • @kbwfgg6400
    @kbwfgg6400 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One thing they should have added to the cooler is detachable blue ice packs that attach and detach from the bottom side of the lid. Cold move down, blue ice is colder than water ice and last longer without the mess.

  • @chopherringsalad
    @chopherringsalad ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great breakdown! I’m actually becoming really interested in using the PACKOUT as a way of transporting groceries, as well as storing tools lol. Where I live in NYC no one drives to the grocery store, you just have to walk and haul groceries back home. Other people use granny-style carts to deal with this, but I’ve always thought using one would be a bit emasculating. This could be a great alternative to that! The cooler would be an awesome way to transport frozen goods as it wouldn’t matter if the ice didn’t last 30 hours lol. Between it and the large toolbox base I could get a lot of groceries back home and not look like an old lady 😅

  • @warrengraham
    @warrengraham 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I'm guessing They could have a thicker gasket. But it's IP rated (Ingress Protection) so it's looking at jets of water spray at the box from many angles using a special rig. The Jets of water are calibrated to the standard. And yes IP 65 means 6 for dust, 5 for water. Which is not great, not bad, but not amazing.
    But it's not rated for water EGRESS. or leaking out. That's just not part of how they test the boxes. So Milwaukee needs a different idea on that issue.

    Is there little drink holder circles on the inside of the lid? Its hard to tell with the white balance. I would say it opens all the way for a little table.
    I will say that its concerning that it leaks that easily, since it most likely will be stacked on the job site. Moving it around either with the dolly or the original 2 wheeled base the water will leak all over during transportation.

    Every cooler company already over-promises and under-delivers the second they print "retains ice UP TO...." on its nomenclature. Some coolers easily surpass their claims, most don't. Think about having this one out at a jobsite outdoors and it is unrealistic to ask it to keep ice 30 hours. I'd say 12 hours easily in the heat (I'm in south Texas) and probably 16 hours in cooler weather. No way this will retain ice for 30 hours in summer in an outdoor working environment. But then again, who works 30 hours per shift? That said, I have this cooler. It's solid for what its purpose is. I use it at the ranch for the day while doing work. It's serviceable to the user for that purpose.

  • @austinnipper278
    @austinnipper278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review, but instead of keeping the cooler in a climate controlled area, you should have placed it in a hot outside area and opened the lid like once an hour. That’s just my opinion though. Just started watching and you do seem honest and not just a fanboy to a company or afraid to say it how it is.

Who wants mushy food when you haven’t sealed your food well enough? I’ve been there and it ain’t pretty. Save the mushed food for when I’m nearly dead, please. Drinks are great on a hot day, but drink coolers are better suited for that, IMHO. Can’t tell me an M18 9ah or 12ah battery wouldn’t keep such a thing running a long time, not to mention most people have more than one battery. I know construction workers might deal with ice now, but it’s better without, and better when you could bring a battery powered cooler along to camp or on the boat. Hope Milwaukee reads this. Thanks Vince, nice video.

    i would not consider that a good ice retention...it was 98 % water....change it to 24 hours...my $30 igloo standard cooler retains ice better than that in 24 hours sitting in my van for 24 hours...its 50% ice by 7 am the next day

    That is so strange how it leaks so easily, you'd think that would have been dealt with being its made for construction and its pretty tall and narrow so it could easily tip over. Its a deal breaker for me unfortunately.
    They just need to modify a small bar fridge so you can maybe battery power it with 2 batteries and it would take up same amount of room as both of those coolers did, just how do you get around the weight issue...

    I’ve used this cooler for a year now and has been very good and hasn’t leaked at all

    My Yeti doesn’t leak when tilted over on its side. I have a bunch of the Packout accessories and had high hopes that the cooler would perform better.

    You should also test the wall leak on the water cooler and all three of them
