- Finally! Here's the movie of the full concert at Victoria Hall, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, by Gert van Hoef on August 15, 2015
We know that a lot of you have been waiting anxiously for the release of these images, and now you can watch the whole concert. We had no pretensions to make a broadcast quality product, as the relatively short stay and the limited amount of luggage we could take with us inhibited us to have all of the equipment there to do a full professional recording of both video and audio.
Lucky enough, Father Geurt and friend Mark Janssen took their consumer-cams with them, and we were promised a copy of the images recorded by Victoria Hall's own camera's. Unfortunately, because of a few technical problems it was not possible to supply us with the full-HD recordings of both the pedal board and the keyboards. So we had to make do with the material which was at hand, and we think that the end-result is very worthy of watching. If the image of the video is too grainy on your computer-monitor, please try downsizing it just a fraction to 720p or smaller. It was our simple thought (and wish) that the fans who could not be there to join us at the Victoria Hall, should be offered a chance to see and hear the concert afterwards on the Gert van Hoef website. Our obligation to share the enjoyment and fulfill the wish of many, outweighs our own criticism and reasons not to publish it.
We hope that you will have as much enjoyment listening to the concert it as we had making it for you.

We weten dat velen van u hier nadrukkelijk naar hebben uitgekeken, en nu kunnen jullie de hele film van het concert bekijken. We hadden niet de pretentie om er een hoogdravende productie van te maken, want de relatief korte tijd ter plekke en de gelimiteerde hoeveelheid bagage die we mee konden nemen maakten het gewoon onmogelijk om alle benodigde apparatuur mee te nemen om een heuse CD / DVD productie te realiseren.
Gelukkig hadden vader Geurt en Mark Janssen ook nog een consumenten camera bij zich. De beelden van de pedalen en de speeltafel zijn door Victoria Hall zelf gemaakt, maar door wat technische problemen ontvingen wij deze beelden helaas in een lagere resolutie op een DVD gebrand in plaats van het originele 1080p Full-HD materiaal op een memory-stick, zoals we gehoopt hadden. We moesten dus het beste maken van datgene wat ons ter hand gesteld werd. Ongeacht, het eindresultaat is zeer de moeite van het kijken waard. Als het beeld te korrelig lijkt op uw monitor, probeert u dan om het afspeelvenster te verkleinen naar 720p kleiner. Ons doel om diegene die er niet bij konden zijn in Hanley op deze manier toch te betrekken bij het concert, wegen zwaarder dan onze eigen kritiek en redenen om het niet te publiceren.
Wij hopen dat u evenveel plezier beleeft aan het bekijken / beluisteren van dit concert als wij hebben gehad tijdens het maken van de film voor u.

Gert gave a lovely speech and charmed our British audience. His recital was masterful and glorious - as always. At the end when he held hands with his young Dutch companion to take a bow together, it was delightful. A brilliant musician with a joyful and captivating personality. Come to England often, Gert! There are hundreds of great organs for you to discover :-) !

For who should I be glad? For Gert who certainly loved to perform on this amazing stunning instrument or obviously the enthousiastic receiving audience? Probably both , I presume. I enjoyed every second of the concert and also the smalltalk/signs between the difficult pieces! Thank you all for this unforgettable event! I will listen this again without my Phone ear plugs 👍. The staff at the ticket counter said they had never known such an enormous attendance at a Saturday midday organ concert. The scan shot of the audience in this video was made before a lot of us had turned up; me included!
Gert clearly had enormous fun on this organ. And we had huge enjoyment listening.

An amazing video which brought back all the memories of a wonderful day, which captured the great atmosphere at Hanley. I don't think the Victoria Hall organ knew what hit it that day. Thanks to John for great video editing and for posting here so that we can all enjoy the day again.
Absolutely fantastic performance! I never suspected you could get such marvellous sound and rhythm out of an organ. It sounds is if there were a whole orchestra hidden behind that beautiful wood. Great Gert! Keep it up!
it amazes me why 28 people have voted the thumbs down are these people so Jealous that they have to do this, you cannot be one of the many at the concert at The Victoria Halls Hanley because I was there and saw EVERYONE clap and shout for more of Gert's fantabulistic playing on that beautiful organ, shame on you people who obviously cant play a single note on any musical instrument, and hide behind this thumbs down business, if you dont like organ music please dont listen because its insulting to a great organist Gert Van Hoef!

It amazes me too. Maybe the strange thumbs have nothing to do with music. I think I know one reason, but I'm careful to write about it. Maybe I'm wrong after all.
My father was a minister in a church. So I grew up with a believe system. Now I am agnostic. I respect the religion of others. I hope they will also respect my agnostic worldview.
So I enjoy Gert's music a lot. I like romanticism, films score etc. I also appreciate hearing psalms despite my believe-system. Gert also plays christian worship music. I don't like that kind of music, but I respect other people who do. And If other people find joy in worshipping, I will be happy for them. Gert plays a lot of different music styles and loves them to play. I admire his musicality, whatever he plays.
Now I'm going to listen to Dvoràk, the th time.
I hope when you say Dvořák you pronounce it like this VORSHARK because this is the correct way to say it not as most peeps say Dvoshack using the D as aswell or this way Vorshack which is so wrong I noted the dash above the a which makes the a into arr and the r has ř above it making that letter into a sher happy listening :)
+greesyduck Oh, no. Tell me it isn't so. There's a kindred spirit out there who knows what a diacritical mark is. And I'm just as critical as you. In a good way, of course.
+greesyduck In Czech (as well as in English) the D is pronounced. In addition the "ř" is pronounced as a simultaneous rolled "r" and the "zh" (as in pleasure) sound. This quite difficult for English speakers to manage so they usually substitute the "zh" sound alone. The "sh" sound is shown by a "š" in Czech.
Ignore the thumbs down people Greesy, for you can't tell "them" what they are or why they think the way they do, or tell someone else how to think, they just do, and it's their prerogative. They have their reasons, whatever they may be. I'm sure Gert knows this just comes with the territory of being on line.
Amazing to see how mature your playing is becoming, and how your confidence in yourself is growing. Bravo, wonderful performance.

I Love Gert van Hoef, the Pipe Organ and the Hymns. Although I don't speak Dutch I sing along in English. The Hymns tunes are about the same in the Lutheran Church and I love to sing them.

Good Sunday Morning Gert! This was quite a royal treat to wake up to this video this morning. I had an extended Sunday breakfast and watched every minute of it. The opening put shivers up my back when I saw the two of you walk out on the organ loft. Just the excitement!! Yes. Regardless of your final, ultimate opinion of Gert NO ONE can deny that he is unquestionably a gifted genius. Look at how young he is in this concert and yet is already an accomplished virtuoso on the most complex of instruments.
