I love doing my own gift boxes. You can let your imagination run wild and still keep things low budget. You can always pick up containers and anything “Christmas-ey” during the after Christmas sales. This is great if you have a place you can put your finds in a box and store them. If you really want to impress and have some time, make your own marshmallows. You can flavor them if you like and it will really amaze people. I did a chocolate lovers basket including chocolate covered strawberry popcorn. After popping the popcorn (I popped my owt) lay it out on a tray, drizzle melted chocolate all over the popcorn. Mix in freeze dried strawberries (you can get these in the snack aisle at DT) tossing gently. Fill whatever size food safe cellophane bag you have. Then add whatever else you have planned. It’s been a while since I made this and I’m not sure about the container but as was mentioned you can find stuff in thrift stores. I also made a Tea themed basket for someone who really loved tea. Using double sided tape I got a variety box of tea and taped them to a craft popsicle stick. Using green construction paper I made “leaves” and taped them to the sticks so the tea looked like a little flower garden. I found an adorable small pitcher (about quarter size) and placed it in the middle of the garden. I think I used a box which I wouldn’t use if I were to do it again. It was a housewarming gift and the woman I gave it to loved it.
You can make your own version of “Moose Munch” or other snacks if you have the time. But places like TJ Maxx are great for getting unusual crackers, cookies, stuff to put on crackers and just about anything else you could want.
To keep things on track maybe make up a “gift basket shopping list.” Start looking for containers after the holidays in thrift stores when people are likely to be getting rid of their items. I’ll end this here. Once I start writing the ideas start flowing!

Or you could leave them plain and make gardening themed gifts with a trowel and some bright seed packets.
