      Willem Verheij it's worth to notice the movie knows when had to be funny and when serious. The parts with the father almost made me cry, and then another (like this intro) mades me cry for laughing.

    • @willemverheij3412
      @willemverheij3412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It can be a fine line yes, at its core its a very basic and straight forward story of the underdog winning and getting the girl despite the odds. But the execution is great, this movie truly was made by a team who loved their work and the cast has great chemistry.
      Mixing the tragic with the comedy is something Charlie Chaplin often did too, his movies can switch from hilarious to making you cry pretty quickly. It's hard not to cry at the end of city lights.

    The punchline is that this WASN'T PLANNED - the extras did it as a little fun thing, then they threw it in because it was actually /very effective/ at getting across something important and connecting the joust to the audiences - they saw it a lot like we see modern sports events. Yes it's anarchonistic as all fucking hell, but it gets the point across that turns out, folks back then weren't THAT different from us! :)

    • @kahlil2638

    • @MrCutsteel
      @MrCutsteel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Exactly, that was exactly the point of it and I think it was a great creative choice. Normally I'm a stickler for historical accuracy, but in this case, I understand that the anachronisms were done on purpose, for a good reason, and it really does get a point across.

    • @Cynicalsoup

      This whole movie is about treating medieval sports the same way we treat modern sports. It's brilliant

    • @knoahbody69
      @knoahbody69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There's nothing about "We will rock you" exactly, that's anachronistic, except the use of an amplified distorted guitar solo, which could easily be omitted. People knew good beats back then. Google Fa Una Canzona By Orazio Vecchi. That has a "modern" sounding beat, but was written in Shakespeare's time period. th-cam.com/video/i4bgdTuiQMY/w-d-xo.html

    My lords! My ladies.
    And everybody else here NOT sitting on a cushion:
    Today, today, you find yourselves equals.
    For you are all equally blessed.
    For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the pleasure
    Of introducing to you a Knight, sired by Knights,
    A Knight who can trace his lineage back beyond Charlemagne.
    I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem,
    Praying to God,
    Asking His forgiveness,
    For the Saracen blood spilt by his sword.
    Next, he amazed me still further in Italy
    When he saved a fatherless beauty
    From the would-be ravishings
    Of her dreadful Turkish uncle.
    In Greece, he spent a year in silence
    Just to better understand the sound of a whisper.
    And so, without further gilding the lily,
    And with no more ado,
    I give to you the Seeker of Serenity,
    The Protector of Italian Virginity,
    The Enforcer of our Lord God,
    The One --
    The Only --
    Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein!!!

He wrote poetry in Middle High German and was author of noted works about how knights and nobles may lead more virtuous lives. Ulrich was a member of a wealthy and influential ministerialis family from Liechtenstein in Styria. Waving your banner all over the place
    Buddy, you're an old man, poor man
    Pleading with your eyes, gonna get you some peace someday
    You got mud on your face, big disgrace
    Somebody better put you back into your place

    Very very wise for the movie to be like "we're super anachronistic. You down?" right up front.

    No joke, I didn't know what an electric guitar was nor sounded like before I watched this movie. Imagine my my horror to find out what a trumpet actually sounded like irl, years afterwards...
