  • Heartland 1807 Nathan and Amy discuss what their relationship would be like of they kept it away from business. They both felt like it would be complicated, so theh decide to just be friends. You can tell they both feel sad about the decision though. I’m still rooting for them #iloveheartland #heartlandseason18 #amyfleming #nathanpryce #nathamy

This scene is heartbreaking. They both care so much for each other but are so torn between their families. They play this scene so well. I wanted to cry for both of them. The writers, I think, have done a good job of weaving their story and gradually letting us know what is behind Nathan's behavior and thinking. Amy's right, he's "a good man."

Thanks Gina. I'm convinced the writers are just weaving these complications into what is going to end up being a permanent future for Amy & Nathan. By overcoming these obstacles it can strengthen their relationship not break it apart. We'll see if I'm correct hopefully in this S18 by E10. I hope they don't make us wait until the fall of 2025 to find that out though! 😊

I don’t think Caleb and Amy have chemistry. Plus, Caleb has two ex-wives. It appears that Heartland is now trying to bring Ashley back. Ashley was good with Caleb. However, I think Caleb and Amy should just be friends. Plus, I agree with whoever said that Heartland is too crowded. Nathan, Amy, and Lindy would be next door if there’s a future for Nathan and Amy.

Nathan is a good man. Lou is the problem here. Her poor behavior is the reason why Amy ends up having to choose between her family and the amazing guy she likes. Nathan and Amy could have a great life together (not just an on the surface relationship supposedly separate from all the other areas of their lives - because that would be settling) if only their families could be at peace. Then they could truly date with an intent to marry. Their families just need to fix things and Lou needs to apologize and get out of the way. Maybe Nathan could merge his business with Heartland Beef.

Nathan and Amy should be together. Amy has been a single mom for way too long.

Every time she talks about what she wants Nathan to be, she's actually describing Caleb. She keeps recognizing that Nathan's not what she wants him to be, walks away for a bit, and then comes back around and tries again instead of following her instincts. They have their moments but it still feels a little forced to me and I'm waiting on Caleb's return (hopefully more than a brief stint she can ignore) and for her to realize that she's basically been wanting Nathan to be Caleb which isn't fair to any of them. (And feels especially cruel to keep putting Caleb through this if it's all pointless - Nathan could EASILY have been concerned enough about the male best friend for drama to ensue without hurting Caleb needlessly.)
She's always been out of sight/out of mind and I think it was easier for her not to think about the possibility before (stakes are SO HIGH due to their friendship) because Caleb backtracked immediately and then left for a good reason (Carson). She got distracted by Nathan as Caleb hasn't been around much. She's not good with change and has rejected basically every guy (Ty included) before wanting to give any of them a chance so anything's possible. These two have their moments but I'm still rooting for Caleb at this point. This just doesn't feel "right" yet, at least not until she stops trying to make him into something (and someone) he's not.
I do enjoy some of their cute moments but none of them are screaming "SHIP ME!" with Nathan yet, despite the long list of reasons they're throwing at us to like him. It's like they're TELLING me to ship them without making me WANT to if that makes sense.
For now it's giving S2 vibes except instead of Ty being away and Caleb being conveniently nearby, it's Caleb that's been gone a while and Nathan is conveniently next door. Waiting to see if there's a shift. I won't buy anything 100% until Amy is remarried and will just have to hope by that point that I'm on board with whoever they want her to ultimately be with.

I sincerely hope you’ll read all this, bc I read all of your comment.
Thing is, Nathan has shown many times now that he IS capable of being open and honest with Amy, and that he probably is a very open and honest guy. You have to remember that Nathan was cheated on by his ex wife, and that kind of betrayal coming from the one you’re supposed to be with for the rest of your life hurts, and it hurts for a long time. It also destroys one’s ability to trust others again, which is why in S17 and earlier episodes of S18 we seen him being guarded with his personal life (i.e. his dad ‘s illness) with Amy. But, if you’ve watched the scenes closely, you’ll know that he is capable of being an open and honest person, he just needs to regain the trust back that his ex broke.
In episode 1 of S18, when Amy leaves after bringing him dinner in his barn, you can see that he’s contemplating on telling her what’s actually going on as she’s getting up to walk away, he just couldn’t find or get the right words to come out. He’s also the one to also say how he truly feels about Amy when they’re at a moment of “broken up”. In episode 2 of S18 when he comes to give the cheque to Heartland for the fire break costs, while he and Amy are talking, he tells her “I thought there was something between us. I guess I want to know what’s going on.” And then again earlier in episode 7 of S18, whilst they’re looking for the bird with Rhiannon and he and Amy stop to talk amongst each other, he once again tells her “I really like you. I don’t want to give up on this.” Not to mention that sharing his dad’s illness with Amy was a BIG moment for him to show that he is an open and honest guy (especially since family health issues are often EXTREMELY personal and private matters).
Amy has shut Caleb down on MULTIPLE occasions now (including before she ever dated Ty) and has told him time and time again that she does not view him in that way, and that they’re just friends (or more like brother and sister). In episode 2 of S18, Amy and Nathan weren’t even officially a couple yet, so at that point the writers could have went in the direction of Amy x Caleb, considering that Caleb helped her find out about Daryl having stolen the Icelandic horses, but the writers did not go down that route. Especially when you consider that Nathan rode up to Heartland at the end of that episode to try and talk to Amy and saw her and Caleb hugging and just assumed she was dating Caleb and turned around rode off again. Again in episode 5 of S18, when Caleb is talking to her before leaving, she tells him “you’re gonna have to call me more, and text me, because no matter what you’re still my best friend”. Once again stating that it is very clear that she does NOT share those kinds of feelings for Caleb, and she immediately turned back to Nathan as soon as Caleb left and Nathan approached the table, she didn’t even cast a glance in Caleb’s direction. And back to episode 2, when Caleb is telling Amy about how he went on a date (that ultimately ended in failure), she didn’t look disappointed that he might end up with someone else over of her, instead she was supportive and said something along the lines of “I’m glad you’re getting back out there and meeting people”, meaning she wants him to find someone, just not her.
Caleb also isn’t ever around enough for him and Amy to ever develop a relationship, he’s always off on his supply runs, so he’d be gone more than he’s not. Whereas Nathan is a rancher and would always be home, he only lives a few minutes down the road from Heartland, like come on, if Amy can ride there and back on Shadow before it gets dark, he obviously lives pretty close by.

Also let’s also note that when Amy and Caleb DID date back in season 2, that was never about Caleb, she just wanted to get closer to Ty, and that meant dating his best friend. If the writers wanted her and Caleb to be together, why bring in all these extra characters (Sam, Finn, Nathan) as potential love interests? It’d just be a waste of time on the producer’s and writer’s end. They could’ve just immediately gone with the Caleb route as soon as he and Cass got divorced back in like season 16 or whenever it was that they got divorced. Personally, I see absolutely no chemistry with Amy and Caleb, and honestly I never have.

You’re also referring a season 2 and teenage Amy to a season 18, mid thirties Amy who’s now not only a lot more mature, she’s also a mother. Teenage romances tend to go the way her and Ty x Caleb first did. Teens tend to jump around between 2-3 different people they like before they ultimately settle on the one they want (kind of the point of young love), whereas adults are more mature in knowing what they want in a potential partner and also know what they don’t want in a partner. Nathan is great with not only Amy, but he’s great with Lyndy as well, and Lyndy knows that Nathan makes her mom happy (which ultimately makes Lyndy happy too). Now let’s look at Caleb again, he’s gone through 2 marriages (that both ended in divorce), and his only son doesn’t even like him all that much (I mean come on, Caleb legit had to buy a pony just to get his son to come spend his birthday with him). He legit has to BUY his son’s love and affection and he also doesn’t have half custody of Carson, he has to fly to Vancouver JUST to see his son (bc Cass has full custody)

@@montanamountaingarden476 PS: I love that you think I have all the Nathan details wrong and I think you have all the Caleb details wrong. We clearly have our favorites that we focus on! ;) (And nothing wrong with that!)
I'm sure I'll love them both eventually. Just hard when we're in the middle of the story (and a love triangle) and are trying to advocate for our guys! Boils down to "No, you don't understand him!! He's actually great because ___, and if you just looked at ___ you'd understand!" When in reality we'll just talk around in circles believing the other doesn't get it just because we have different tastes/take things differently and/or notice different details.
As long as they're all happy eventually I'm sure we will be too (and whether things are longterm or not we can enjoy them while they / the hope for them lasts and then hopefully enjoy whatever they throw at us). Life is too short and nothing's ever easy (if it were the show would be done anyway)! So it's realistic either way - whether she's all set now or changes her mind later on (either is valid). We'll just have to wait and see!!

@ They will have to build the house from scratch. Only the swing is left. Unless they only want to swing forever 😂😂😂. Won’t Ty’s ghost and memories bother Amy ? She would need to be a very unemotional hearted person (strong Fleming girl 😯) which the writers are doing their best to depict.

'RobertLindsey'....you may not understand, but in this scene even Amy understands and didn't disagree. All the Bartletts, Flemings, Borden's put Family First. Amy would be a hypocrit (which she is not) to agree with you. Nathan is Better than 99% of men Amy will ever meet, he has her identical Values. And he acts his age (36) which Caleb doesn't and is still "flashing" Amy in his stupid underwear like a 16 year old. Thankfully, Amy "caught" him flashing, not Jack, or Heaven forbid Lindy. Here's the pairing in S19 - S24: Hot Ash (she acts 16) and Caleb (he is 16). Then Amy (acts 35 with the wisdom of a woman 10 years older) and Nathan (acts 36) with the wisdom of a man 10 years older.
