A musical Dreamteam. Yuja's tone and "jeu perlée" is incomparable and they both play together like one single organism...That's what I call real chamber music!

Beautiful playing! Excellent! I have been spoiled by the Heifetz recording! My only criticism is that whoever recorded this did not mic the Violin properly so there is an embalance of the piano commanding more attention than the violin! It is like they are playing in different rooms! Love this performance!

I agree, It sounds like the piano is on the stage while the violin is in a room behind the stage!

    Salut Michael,
Alors ? Qu’est ce que t’en penses ? Haha je sais que tu check toutes les semaines comme moi Kavakos !
    Love man
Excellent comme d’habitude, grec et pourtant réglé comme une horloge suisse. Il tape tout le temps dans le mile

If you love this Sonata, I think you'll enjoy an italian version by Ilaria Cusano and Roberto Arosio. Listen to great musicians and a great studio enginering performance!!!

I love Kavakos from the release of the Sibelius concerto's by BIS: the original and the known revised version...he lifted that concerto to a whole new level and had set a new standard for the new generation of violinists. But the one who set the standard for the Respighi is Kyung Wha Chung / Zimmermann...sadly, but this interpretation by Kavakos/Wang is plain boring...

Different energies from two very different artists sometimes do not coincide. I agree that with Kyung Wha Chung and Kristian Zimmerman we were somewhat blessed. My concern lies with the choice of tempi. The epic grandeur that is necessary in many moments is passed over too quickly and the ear hasn't a chance to assimilate the amount of information that is there. I'm all for slower tempi and despite the fact that Kavakos and Yuja Wang are phenomenal artists by any standards, I feel that the sonata needs to breathe. Respighi was a phenomenal orchestrator and tone colourist and the sonata needs just that in order to reach us as it should.......
