She has a beautiful voice. I like her solo work as well as the NP stuff. She really blends well with Neko and AC--this band has some of the most incredible vocal arrangements! (AC is a genius arranger). Not to forget that others in the band also sing. Kathryn does not have the range or power of Neko. The new live material here is some of her best singing with NP.
I've always thought that Neko Case was better, but on the other hand, why isn't she in this video? Why was she not at the last two shows I went to? I appreciate talent, but I think I take band loyalty as the higher virtue.
I was skeptical, Dahl was a very unique--style-wise-- drummer, Joe Seiders is rapidly growing on me. Some terrific work on the new songs! Nice backup vocals as well.
OK having listened to the new recording and reading somewhere that Carl was looking for a sort of Kraftwerk techno feel for the new stuff Seiders excels. On the older material hard not to miss Dahl--he was so unique in a quirky way--sort of an IndiePop Bonham with some Keith Moon tossed in. Seiders acquits himself pretty nicely though. Seeing them live tomorrow so....
I relate very much to a lot of the audience here. I always want to dance at 'Indie' concerts but feel really stuck out unless other people are going for it. So I shuffle around. Cool band.
Just saw them live here in NYC (Terminal Five). Fantastic live band. Somehow with synths and keyboards they recreate the CD's though there's a more urgent quality to the sound and the vocals are astonishingly good. Carl has added a very talented singer/musician in Simi Stone. My guess is she and Kathryn will handle the female vocals when Neko is absent. (however the three of them plus Carl and ocassional vocal from Seiders and Fancey--OMG. Just incredible) He noted he had a "female triple threat" while "ABBA only had two..." One of the best show I have ever seen/heard. I am going to recent add on show in New Haven in July! PS Dan Bejar is seemingly out of the band--apparently a mutual decision--Carl noted that he was in on all of Dan's songs while Bejar was not there for the rest of the NP recording sessions. I think Newman has finally made this "his" band. (it pretty much was since its inception).
I honestly prefer Kathryn having lead vocals on this song instead of Neko. Don't get me wrong, I love Neko but I think this song, tonally, suits Kathryn much better.
Neko is "missing" on a number of live performances. Bejar is another member who's solo career often prevents him from some live performances. (He's not even on the current Whiteout.. album). The nucleus of the band is pretty consistent though. AC adds additional musicians--Coco of the Ettes on the Brill Bruisers tour for eg. IMOP-the absence of Neko here is a minus while the singing duties as covered by Kathryn are a plus. She's never been better. This band has never been stronger live.
Ha Ha. You 1--don't know what Neko looks like 2--didn't notice the response by the CBC below 3--haven't listened to the recording of the song--Neko sings the vocals handled by Kathryn here. 4--have a strange sense of humor
Neko is a pretty busy lady. I saw her four times solo last year. Released a massive retrospective of her recordings. She is on the new NP CD a lot. Kathryn often picks up Neko's leads on the road when Neko is unavailable. Understand Neko will be on the current tour though.
Have to disagree. Listening to both, Neko has a more nuanced take. I love both--it would be great to have Kathryn open for Neko on a double bill of their solo material. (just for fun would like to see Carl play tambourine and sing backup in Neko's band!)
Carl obviously agreed with you as well. I still prefer Kathryn on this, it's warmer. I would love to hear everyone try a lead on all of these songs. Alternate takes with Carl as lead, or Kathryn.
I keep coming back to this performance because I absolutely love when Kathryn gets to take center stage. What an incredible talent
That lovely woman on keyboards/vocals does a terrific job
Always loved Calder's vocals. What a great, underrated singer.

Beautiful lead, Kathryn - love this song!
This song is wine. Gets better with every listen.
Love this woman's voice. What a band!
Great song and Kathryn is such a fantastic singer. Thanks

This is why I like this group so much...Just another great song, Kathryn is a great vocalist... she is an original.
Man the outtro at 3:45 just absolutely nails it--chills. Love this song.
It is really a great outro. I have played drums for 53 years and it took me a few.bars to figure the rhythm
Awesome! Katryn is so good!
This may well be on repeat for the whole of 2018
Same!
Great tune
Simply Wonderful.
hacía tiempo que no me entusiasmaba con un grupo, como suenan !!!!!!que maravillaaaa!!!!!!
I relate very much to a lot of the audience here. I always want to dance at 'Indie' concerts but feel really stuck out unless other people are going for it. So I shuffle around. Cool band.
Kathryn Calder is so wonderful.
Isn't she? Glad you enjoyed it!
Unreal.
soulful, and band is good also
Precioso tema
Just love this. Beyond that, I have nothing.

Thanks for your thoughts John! Enjoy the show in July!
As of now, both Dan and Neko are on the West Coast Swing in December, doing 2-night stands, MassRomantic and TwinCinema...going to be EPIC!
Love it!
Truly an anthem to the Capitalist spirit, eh? Every freakin' mercenary in my platoon is singing this song. ;-)

Three chords and the truth. That’s what we have right here.
Like it !
Comes at you like a candy pit bull. Fantastic!
They look like they're just up there having a good ole time.
Kathryn Calder handling vocals here, but it's Neko Case on the record.
Screw that! Dance!
I found your video on Gamer Roadmap Rundown - there are plenty more good videos there that will help you
Its an incredible song... Would of preferred a different outro though...
I agree. Great song, but weak outro.
Me first and the gimme gimmes
I honestly prefer Kathryn having lead vocals on this song instead of Neko. Don't get me wrong, I love Neko but I think this song, tonally, suits Kathryn much better.
It fits her tone for sure.
I completely agree with this. I keep coming back to this version because of Kathryn.

JohnLnyc Neko's there. She's behind Kathryn to her right.
Ha Ha. You

2--didn't notice the response by the CBC below

lol
Where's Neko? 😩

Sadly Neko couldn't make this session. Thanks for watching!
In all honesty, I like Kathyn's vocals on this song better. Wish Carl let her sing it in the studio.
Have to disagree. Listening to both, Neko has a more nuanced take. I love both--it would be great to have Kathryn open for Neko on a double bill of their solo material. (just for fun would like to see Carl play tambourine and sing backup in Neko's band!)

Is Kathryn wearing a wedding ring... Or is this a nightmare?
She's married.
If Marvel's looking for another anthem for Jessica Jones...?
