Thank you for the quiz
A reply to Christopher Jacobs - I take offence sir that you consider me a bad teacher. I was merely stating the difference between commonly spoken English, which is very rarely perfect grammar and "correct" written English.
Language is a currency and every community has its own, hence dialects and slang. I think I must be a little if not a lot older than you, and I was certainly brought up to know "correct" English.

This English lesson takes me back to the good-old days when using proper English set the tone. It works fine for me while I am 69 years-old. I wish this was a quiz, so that I could answer those questions. I enjoy this show very much.
th-cam.com/video/VgOAVjh7BvY/w-d-xo.html
Ur 69 for real?
@@krishpatel9c784 Yes. "I wrote it, I typed it. I'm proud to represent it." Thank you for tapping or typing to me.
@@captainkeyboard1007 nice your not old you'r a handsome young man be happy and live your life joyfully :)
@@krishpatel9c784 Thank you for compliments to me, depending on what appliance you use, whether it be a tablet computer or a smartphone, or even a microcomputer, such as a desktop or laptop computer. Today, I still strive to use proper English. It is better to understand than slang. It is better to use than profane language. Thank you for tapping or typing to me.

I only got 11 out of 15 in this amazing grammar quiz, but there's nothing wrong with it. Using the famous modal verbs can be a little difficult and it would end up being confusing to break down. Using them correctly in sentences can be misleading because rarely can wrap my head around even though apparently I already knew them well. I need more emphasis on it because some modal verbs are interchangeable especially in pretty informal contexts.
It's very good question 15/12
14/15 yeahhhh great
This quiz surely takes me back to my introduction to the English language when I was a thirteen-year-old student at the largest Lyceum in the Azorean archipelago. Those were the days...☺️

In informal spoken English sometimes 'can' and 'may' are interchangeable. And I wouldn't ask 'could you bring me a glass of water', I'd say, please can you get me a glass of water'. The word 'please' sort of replaces the tense of 'would'. The answers you give are technically - i.e. grammatically correct, but spoken language is often different. An example is 'we shall'. Most people will use the emphatic 'will', even though it is incorrect in most circumstances. Just thought I'd say...
"can" refers to one's ability.
It doesn't refer polite request!
Can you lend me a thousand rupees?
I can, (because I have a lot of money) but I wouldn't. (Because you may not return it in time!)
@@joharmuhammad2786
I did say 'in informal English'. As an ex English teacher I am well aware of the difference between written English and spoken English. I do understand the meaning of 'can'. How many of us speak 'correct' English? So many people use the term 'can I' instead of 'may I' that it has become acceptable in language currency. And, it is much more acceptable to say, 'can I...please' instead of 'get me...' which I would say is rude in the UK.
Could you bring me a glass of water please is more commonly used than your preferred usage of Please can you get me a glass of water. The first is a request and the way you phrased it is an order despite the use of please. It is rude.
@@gauravipal9518 Are you English? I would say either 'may I ' or can I have a glass of water please', not 'please could you bring me a glass of water'. This is getting a bit silly. English is my first language and I do know how to speak it and have taught it for many years. I was simply questioning the quiz answer. Obviously I know that in 'correct' English one should say 'may' when asking for something, but in the real world 'can' is very often used in spoken English. I'm not going to respond to any more comments.

Very interesting! Some are obviously correct. However, some may be in general use, even if not “correct”!❤
I do agree. Spoken English is often not 'correct' grammar, but is acceptable as common usage.

Thank you for quizz✅✨👍
I still think that "Perhaps Jerry CAN pass the exam tomorrow is correct" ie has he studied enough?
'can' is far better than 'may' for 'pershaps' almost means 'may'. this is unnecessary repitition. Furthermore.'may' might express permission.
Thanks for this beste ever quiz it help me lot
BOTH a and b in q 1 CAN be correct, depending on context: use 'may' if the 6 year old has permission to play the piano. Use 'can' if you mean 'the skill of the 6 year old'.
Yes, and there are similar points to be made about other questions.
Can is the only correct answer.

@@graemedurie9094 Agree - as for passing the test, the issue could be whether or not he is capable, which would indicate that "can" as the correct answer. If you are talking about probabilities, then the correct word is "may."
