    Finally finished watching the whole video (kids and life...) When this beauty is finished the best thing to do just before your first ride is push it over and let it fall. It will make the first crash that much easier to get over. That is what I did with my bike. I got 500 yards and dropped it on some slippery train tracks. After that all the other drops were not so bad.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yea.. I think first scratch will be toughest to get over ;)

    Wow, your project is really taking shape now Rado! I’m really happy for you. Waiting for that engine to come back was killer on the patience.
    Your bike is going to be so clean and so tight, it’ll be better than new because you turned every screw nut and bolt on it. What an accomplishment.

    Make sure to use the proper tightening order when putting the front wheel back in.
    I think it was something like.. put axle in, tighten pinch bolts on right fork leg, compress suspension so it aligns itself, tighten pinch bolts on left fork leg and then the nut.
    I forgot to do this once and the suspension didnt work properly.
    Nice job on the bike, looks really good!

    @supergarball 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Rado. Love watching the build, it’s great. I wanted to point out a mistake when it comes to re-torquing your bolts. When you torque them to spec, you break the locking compound making it useless. Add locking compound only when you do your final torque. Further more, the old locking compound negatively affects the torque settings as well as the bolt threads.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks brother, makes sense

    • @supergarball
      @supergarball 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good news is that from what I could see you’re not using enough thread locker. Add quite a bit more when you re-do. I know this from experimentation on my Husky. Also, remember or shake up the locking compound before using it bc it settles at the bottom.

    I recall the billet triples are easier to insert forks into than the cast ones. My 2016 500 cast ones are hell to even move the forks in. Previous bike had billet and the forks slid in and out pretty easy.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be, I don't have billet clamps in any of my bikes. I had to stick screwdriver inside to make mine open wider, didn't want to scratch registration sticker

    • @madman432000
      @madman432000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirtniron I saw that and the reason I commented. My forks will only spin one way after loosening the clamps and it takes some effort to slide them out. Billet clamps on my previous 530 once loosened the forks slid out.

    It looks awesome brother. Music? I listen to classic rock or hard rock in the garage. I was gunna tell u and I forgot until now. When u first go out with that trials tire take some extra time to learn how it reacts to different situations. Especially braking. They have significantly less braking traction in loose terrain. They also don’t corner well unless you are really planted on the bike. You really have to push down with your legs to get them to turn. Once you get used to them you will love them. I do. I got back and forth from trials to hybrid.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought in order not to stress the forks and make sure they were lined up you had to tighten the pinch bolts first (allow the forks to fall where they may) and then the axle bolt. I have a 2019 KTM 300 XC-W and if I'm doing it wrong please let me know because I'm about to pull the front wheel and re-pack
    them. Thanks

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pinch bolts on the left side (with the brake) are done last, you need to make sure that the fork slides freely on the axle so it can settle where it needs. I first do the axle nut, then brake side pinch bolts and then after everything settles and aligns I will do the pinch bolts on the left side. Hope that makes. sense.

    Hey watched all your vids and love them very inspiring and picked up some great tips, only a couple things I have picked up on, the old nasty engine bolts you put back in would of took minutes to clean and leaving the plug cap out while working on the bike! That can be fatal if anything fell in!! Great channel though subscribed

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Matt, those are valid points. The bolts are killing me, I actually degreased and cleaned them like month ago, but let them sit on the table and they got little surface rust. Silly mistake, I didn't wipe it off. I put the plug in shortly after the video, if you look closely at the thumbnail you can see the plug. I am learning as I go, it's a fun journey. Welcome on the board ;)

    1 little thing that really annoyed me - the bolts man..haha. Why you didn't clean those rusty bolts?? :P

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know!!! They were not rusty before, I cleaned them in the water and degreaser solution and they got little rusty as they were sitting on the bench last couple weeks. Bummer !

    Hey, im new to the channel and i really like the content! I just bought a 2001 ktm 300 exc and your build series is getting me motivated to do my own rebuild! I am very interested in getting a new set of wheels because one of my hubs is cracked, where did you get the tusk impact set?

    Love the build but, maaan some of those bolts could use some tlc...a hit with the wire brush would make them look like new

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I know. I neglected the look of those bolts. I cleaned them in degreaser and let them sit on the bench at they got little discoloration and rust. Well, I guess we always learn something new, next build it wont happen ;)
