(primarily tats and game grumps) i still remember when the creepypasta saga exploded and i became obsessed with it and then i found your gaming and non gaming creepy pastas and it really freaked me tf out so much I couldn’t finish it so i got all my mates round from school and we watched them and literally screamed and hid behind pillows lol. About the 10th class rumor of the Team Fortress Series, Team Fortress Classic had 10 classes which were reduced to 9 in Team Fortress 2. That should clear things up.
It was awesome being a gamer back then. The internet was still very young, so information didn't travel very fast, and if a friend of your told you of a rumour, your only way to debunk it was to try it out for yourself.... and even if it failed for you, he would insist that it did work for him and that maybe you just hadn't met the exact right conditions to trigger it. Now a days we can just hack the game's code to see if there is anything suspicious within. But even so, I still CHOOSE to be the ignorant fool who wants to believe that some of these myths hold some degree of truth, I mean life is just more exciting to me that way :-)
I was born in 2002 so I still had internet... But I never looked anything up honestly. I found out how to do everything either by myself or by friends (mainly for ToonTown lmao).
I love video game rumours, legends, and hoaxes. It fascinates me how much imagination dedicated gamers have. Plus, you may argue that people are a-holes for trying to fool fellow gamers in the first place, but in creating these hoaxes, we also subsequently keep the game and its legacy alive, because people will remember said game for said rumour, and spend time trying to debunk the rumour.

I actually never fell for the Mew rumor. In Firered, I went back there to find a Lava Cookie. Did the developers (Game Freak) know of the rumor and put it there?
There IS actually a way to get Mew in Red, Blue, Green and Yellow where if you somehow manage to get into a wild encounter at the same time as a trainer battle it just breaks the game. You encounter a lot of missing no and your game is at risk of being deleted since the two encounters aren’t supposed to happen at the same time, but if you manage to encounter Mew just catch it, save, and restart and your game is back to normal and you have Mew. Getting this glitch to work is VERY hard and VERY dangerous. I’ve never been able to do it myself.

I've made a song list of "almost" every song in this video I've seen many ask and try to find the music but to no avail so I took it upon myself to do it. Tats TopVideos now I had a proper watch of the video, I have to say that I am already familiar with some of them and most I already knew as false, however one unmentioned myth that DID catch me was in Gen1 of Pokemon, there was persistant myth that when you throw a pokeball, holding down B button (or Down + B) would increase the catch rate - in reality whether a pokemon is captured or not is already decided the moment the item is selected. also looking at some of them had responses from the developpers - maybe in the future you can consider making something along the lines of "top 20 developper responses to video game myths", would be interesting topic to see how they reacted to rumours and stuff. For example, regarding the jump-over-the-flagpole in Super Mario Bros, i think the japan exclusive SMB2/Lost Levels did implement extended levels for some worlds, and one of them was a troll where it leads to a warp zone that leads you back to World 1!
Tats TopVideos I also have an idea for a video: "Top Underrated Video Game Easter Eggs". Take for example in GTA:SA that "rarely planes will come crashing out of the sky" and not only have I experienced it, but the developers have confirmed it. In GTA 5, there is a Jesus impersonator named Jesse that you can have a chat with. Can't think of anymore off the top of my head, but it's a start.
Finally a channel like this where the nararators voices aren't fucking annoying an over pronounce every word I'm subbing for that exact reason thank you 😂
The rumor of Sheng Long definitely didn't originate in EGM. For years in LA, jokes about Ryu's victory screen that mentions "Sheng Long" being about some guy always existed (although we knew better living in an almost all Chinese city that "sheng long" was a translation mix up regarding the shoryuken (Japanese) and shenglong (a Chinese mythological dragon). EGM got it from the streets and arcades where most of these rumors came from.
About the Sonic 2 entry: A few months ago, a lot of new intel was revealed. There was a scrapped PLOT which would then become Sonic CD. As well as that, there were also stages that never made it out of the concept phase.
Even though you guys don't upload as often as some of the other Tops Channels out here, it's well worth the wait when you do. It's also really refreshing to watch a channel that likes to perfect previous work.
"For those unfortunate enough to fall for some of the more outlandish claims" HEY THOSE WERE SOME OF THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE. The fact that it was all fake doesn't even make it less magical for me. There was something special about beta questing and trying to do all these things to find the Triforce or get to the Unicorn Fountain, Sky/Light Temple, etc

Back in my schoolyard there was a rumor that you could buy a floating house in GTA San Andreas by getting to it with the jetpack cheat (or if you were good enough with a plane.) Lucky for me, I looked a little bit for it but was too lazy to input hours or much effort at all into it XD

Sounds weird but lighting glitches can cause even prerendered textures to look different than intended. I have had some really weird glitches happen to textures while trying to light 3D models in photoshop, it can be pretty wild.

They added the golden deagel into the MW2 remaster.

Tats TopVideos now I had a proper watch of the video, I have to say that I am already familiar with some of them and most I already knew as false, however one unmentioned myth that DID catch me was in Gen1 of Pokemon, there was persistant myth that when you throw a pokeball, holding down B button (or Down + B) would increase the catch rate - in reality whether a pokemon is captured or not is already decided the moment the item is selected.
also looking at some of them had responses from the developpers - maybe in the future you can consider making something along the lines of "top 20 developper responses to video game myths", would be interesting topic to see how they reacted to rumours and stuff. For example, regarding the jump-over-the-flagpole in Super Mario Bros, i think the japan exclusive SMB2/Lost Levels did implement extended levels for some worlds, and one of them was a troll where it leads to a warp zone that leads you back to World 1!

Take for example in GTA:SA that "rarely planes will come crashing out of the sky" and not only have I experienced it, but the developers have confirmed it. In GTA 5, there is a Jesus impersonator named Jesse that you can have a chat with. Can't think of anymore off the top of my head, but it's a start.

The rumor of Sheng Long definitely didn't originate in EGM. For years in LA, jokes about Ryu's victory screen that mentions "Sheng Long" being about some guy always existed (although we knew better living in an almost all Chinese city that "sheng long" was a translation mix up regarding the shoryuken (Japanese) and shenglong (a Chinese mythological dragon).
EGM got it from the streets and arcades where most of these rumors came from.

About the Sonic 2 entry: A few months ago, a lot of new intel was revealed. There was a scrapped PLOT which would then become Sonic CD. As well as that, there were also stages that never made it out of the concept phase.

Back in my schoolyard there was a rumor that you could buy a floating house in GTA San Andreas by getting to it with the jetpack cheat (or if you were good enough with a plane.) Lucky for me, I looked a little bit for it but was too lazy to input hours or much effort at all into it XD
Boy, I sure do remember falling for some of these hoaxes though, but you can't help but wonder when a favorite pastime of yours is hunting for easter eggs, glitches, unused code, textures and general data in video games. Sounds weird but lighting glitches can cause even prerendered textures to look different than intended. I have had some really weird glitches happen to textures while trying to light 3D models in photoshop, it can be pretty wild.
