    The real problem with Lego gearboxes is torque handling. To me, a gearbox should be able to stall a motor, but this is rarely the case. I have managed to break many gears and also axes trying to build a heavy-duty gearbox. Perhaps an idea for a future video 🙂

      ​@@MaxBrix I did this one in a setup with A2212 brushless motor and I still got some cracking noises etc. The whole gearbox must be sturdy enough so basically each gear should be supported by another so there is no play in the the system. Anyway, the FIREPOWER gearbox was the closest one to simply achieve this goal!

      ​@@KRXLlON With a brushless motor, you're asking for too much from those plastic gears. They were never designed to handle such big power. I've built Lego gearboxes that handle the power of a Lego buggy motor well but that's close to their limits (provided that I want it to last long) already.
      Anything that is meant to handle serious torque and power should be made out of metal, both gears and axles. So you either go with metal Lego parts (which cost a ridiculous amount of money) or simply buy a metal geartrain. Everything has its limits no matter how much clever engineering you can put into it

    that was so good i had to watch it again.. Certainly the most compact iteration and very smooth. Liked that a lot. Almost enough to tempt me back to lego 👍🍺🇬🇧

      This is the first one I want to actually use in a car. Maybe with my little brushless Lego motor.

      @@MaxBrix I think you'll need to keep the revs down to prevent the gear faces from wearing on initial contact. And then if you go to low on the primary drive, it'll have so much torque that it'll spin the centres out of the gears or twist the axles! you can get metal ones though.
      Great development, am going to keep watching this but I'd put money on you going full Radio Control inside 2 years 👍🍺🇬🇧🇺🇲
