This is a very simple outdoor kitchen build on a budget. Using standard tool and box store materials you could build this too!
We are spending a lot of time camping at our lake property and we wanted to make things easier in the cooking and cleaning department. It's been a game changer both as a food prep surface and a solution for keeping the rain off and falling debris out of our food.

Great build! Those poly panels will last FOREVER! Use them around the farm and they hold up very well!
Yeah they have been holding up super well. They still have a lot of flex and took a foot or so of snow no problem!
@@JonathanKuhn was at Lowes and each 2x8 was marked down to $2.18 EACH! They were making space for new inventory. Had to go and rent a uhaul to buy 113 that day! Hahaha I still have all 113 without even the corners cracking! That was 2017 too!
Thank you for this! Really inspiring. We also have a piece of land that we could use - but I wasn't ready to build a house/cabin yet. In both financial and commitment sense. But your idea of using it as a glamping is awesome! It lowers the bar significantly - because it's more forgiving. For instance - I don't have to pay a contractor to make a proper foundation - I can simply use a concrete blocks on compacted soil/gravel. Or I don't have to have heavy/pricy insulation if I'm not gonna use it in winter. And so on... eye opening! THANKS!
Sounds like we are in the same boat. We are finding it very rewarding to spend time on the land without the comforts of a cabin/house. Of course a proper cabin would make the stay more comfortable but the land itself is just as enjoyable without 👍
Great idea
Nice job, I like it
Looks great Jon!! I love these videos. We need to come visit!!
Yes you do!!
Very simple not complicated. When I do mine, im going to make sure that my BQ is out of the rain rain and covered by my roof. Those BQs rust so easy.
👍. I had it in my head that the smoke and heat from the box would mess with the roof panels. I think they would have been fine in hindsight but we do cover the bbq when not in use.
Nice work. Simple design.
Thanks!
Great job Jonathan! Very similar to the outdoor kitchen we built, mostly from RECLAIMED materials. Just posted Part 10.
This is awesome!! Would you not mind sharing how the sink function works. Hoping it’s as simple as connect to a hose
I believe ikea sells an outdoor faucet for this with a hose connection. Any faucet would work actually with the correct adapters. We are currently just dumping water into the sink for washing and it drains into a pail since this is off-grid but the plan is to rig something a little more permanent up with hoses and low water.
Would this work as an indoor sink cabinet?
Wow it looks amazing! What is that material above your head when its raining, was that custom?
The material is a polycarbonate roof panel. Comes in various colors and transparencies.
what colour black and what sheen is that structure?
Not sure if the colour name but I asked for the darkest black and I think it’s semigloss
Is the sink cabinet steady. I'm thinking of getting it with doors.
Yes it’s very solid. And there is no rust or staining after 2 years. We are also going to put doors on the sink section and leave the other one open for easy access.
@@JonathanKuhn thanks for the kind reply. Do you think its also suitable for indoor use?
Absolutely. However it is made completely of metal and has a more industrial look than finished cabinetry. Could look really cool though!
@@JonathanKuhn thanks. I'll might get this for my indoor kicthen, the one i saw is complete with back and front doors.
Hi, does the ikea modules rust outside ?
Hi. These have been outside for 3 years and have no signs of rust yet! I’m extremely impressed with the quality of the SS top and didn’t expect much. After 3 years I’d certainly recommend these.
@@JonathanKuhn wow I am impressed. I Guess you have a cover to ptotect it from the elements ? Thanks for the feedback
There is a roof over it but there is also a lot of moisture that hits it whenever it rains or snows. We often find standing water on it when we arrive to the property
Don't you just love it when city folk talk about camping because you know without a good prep area it will make camping difficult. Lmao.

What is on the other side of the kitchen?
Good question ha. It’s just a storage shed.
Turn the music off so we can hear you speak.
