I have planted these at my house and my daughters for a privacy fence it is amazing how fast they grow . The green giants i planted are deer resistant she never had a problem and there are deer in her woods . if you want them now to spread and become a hedge , prune of a foot of the top leader and watch how thick they get . Do not do the same mistake i did on my property ,I let them get to big know there 20 ft tall and hard to prune . I planted a dozen 5 ft ones at my daughters and the nursery told me to plant them 8 ft apart i thought that was way to much so we went with 6 ft on center . With in 2years they were over 8 ft and starting to spread then we took the tops off and in 2 yrs there a full hedge.

I was also told by the supplier that when spaced five feet apart, they will grow 20 to 25 feet tall. I can’t imagine them that all, but I’m all for it right now. I think a 20 foot tall solid wall would be amazing.
I hope I can stop putting a fence around them in the winter at some point. The deer ate them the first few years when they were a lot smaller, so I’m hesitant.

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial I think your property is big enough to just let them get tall.
Who ever is on the North side of the hedge will be in shade most of the day though.
Your deer are hungry buggers. Hopefully your neighbor puts in some tasty emerald green arborvitae so they are not interested in your giants.🤣🤣🤣

      @@HowtoandReviewsOfficial I have Giants planted 3 1/2 - 4 feet apart. (Zone 5b)
While I do not expect them to get to their full potential planted that close together, (due to Nutrient and water competition etc.) I certainly expect they will get significantly taller than 20-25 feet tall. (without trimming)
They will not really stop growing after 25 feet, but I think they will slow down significantly.
I think mature height IN THE SOUTH is maybe 25-30 feet tall.
Many suppliers quote a 10 year height as opposed to Ultimate Mature height.
You are in Zone 5, I think you said, and it looks like yours are in full sun with good drainage.
I believe you are going to be in a similar situation I got in when I bought my Golden Doodle.
The breeder said "People don't want the big ones" So she said she changed the stud to a medium sized Dog.
She said my Golden Doodle would "MAX OUT" at 35-40 pounds.
Presently this guy is 9 years old and 75 pounds of Sweetness.🥰
Anyways, I'm getting ready for your review of the "Sturdiest Step ladder" and
"Best Pole Hedge trimmer" in the near future. 🤣🤣🤣

Also I would suggest to travel down some side roads and do some crop tours.
Find farmers that have put up windbreaks of Norway Spruce, White Pine, or Green Giants.
Often you can find them planted 5 feet apart like yours are.
Around me, these trees all get taller than 25 feet tall even when planted 5 feet apart.

@@stevie1748 sounds awesome! They’re welcome to grow as tall as they want to!
I also have a golden doodle. I believe he is about 12 years old now. Still going strong!

How often do you water these established ones?

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  หลายเดือนก่อน

I make sure they get water once a week. Either natural rain, or me manually watering them if there was no rain that week. If they start turning yellow, they definitely need water.

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial if they start turning yellow, you are really late, probably too late. :(
