I was a little worried when you first posted this because i hadn't done the test firing yet but I have since test fired the ECU (see the latest video) and it's a go!
Absolutely amazing work on all your videos. Exactly the type of informative content that I search for. I hope that you continue your great work and I look forward to applying all the hard work to my own project build in the future. Once again, thank you for the information and professionalism.
Thanks for watching, i do hope this stuff helps people get their swaps done. You can always feel free to message me if there are questions not answered by the videos.
I have a 2013 Lexus RX350 harness, and from what I can tell, it seems to have the same set up as the RAV4 harness. I don't have one to compare side by side though to double check. Since the MK1 has different connectors, I was thinking of doing something like this. This'll help a ton with my MK1 swap
I have not checked the connector pinout on the RX350 harness. As far as i know it does not match the 2009 and earlier rav4 pinout but it might match the 3rd gen sienna pinout since it is the same years. You can compare your pinout to this one to confirm: FrankensteinMotorworks.com/2GRFE/diagrams/%2715%20sienna%20ENGINECONTROL.pdf
I want to do a 2gr swap but I've no idea what parts to get especially since engine and trans will be from different vehicles. Plus I'm a big fan of yours and I'd rather support your business than any of the others especially for other swaps
@@FrankensteinMotorworks thanks. I went for a ride in your friend Ari's car. I live pretty close to him. I'm convinced in the 2gr ways. I have an sw21. My zzw is already swapped with something else.
Nice. Thought about maybe just going to a readily available aftermarket connector like a couple of DT or DTM connectors? It'd add crimping, but that's needed on the patch harness as well. That stock connector doesn't appear to be sealed to me as well, so it shouldn't go in the engine bay.
You're right that it isn't sealed, in the MR2 application it can easily reach into the trunk or into the fuse box. I really wanted to avoid any kind of crimping because i wanted people to be able to make their own harness even if they have to order the patch harness from someone else. I also hope to make the patch harnesses available from my store for the common applications.
@@FrankensteinMotorworks I understand - some people do freak out at small amounts of added complexity. I would say the venn diagram overlap of people that can crimp a pin with a $20 weatherpack crimper and those ok with diving into an engine swap and the electronics associated is probably pretty high. But I get that people are more comfortable doing sketchy butt splices etc. on a pigtail. I'll be interested to see how this harness lays out in an SW20 engine bay. Wasn't that one of the big benefits of the RAV4 harness, is it was laid out to go over the driver's side of the engine like the SW20 engine bay is laid out?
Hi Marc, just watching your new video on the wiring series very handy as always.while I’m watching I just remembered I sent a message on the 2GR head dissection video you did and I was hoping you could do a flow test on what would be the best port n polish plan for porting the 2GR heads. A method I was thinking of would be a half cut inlet & outlet port with a sealed Perspex viewing window and using a slow smoke machine and flow balls to see the changes in flow to see what will improve power and not reduce power gains. This could be a fun and interesting project.
Damien, I don't currently own a flow bench to do this kind of testing. It's on the wish list for sure though. This may get revisited at that point when i have the available equipment.
Dude you are awesome. By any chance would you sale me the stereo plugs? I have a sienna that has stereo problems. They say buy a new one or get a after market radio. I'm a little stubborn and I rerouted the power to the stereo and BAM it's working again. Thanks for your time and i hope to hear back from you. Thanks again, Kevin
Congrats on getting your problem fixed, it sounds like they wanted you to spend a lot of money on something that would not have solved the issue. Which plug are you talking about? are you talking about the one that i used for the MR2 fuse box? is that actually a match for your sienna?
@@FrankensteinMotorworks no I have a Sienna and a 1998 RAV4 manual transmission. But I’m would love to have all the plugs that are on the back of the stereo. I have the 6 speaker system. I’ll seen you a photo of the back of the stereo. If I had the cut off and plugs I could retrace all the wires. It will be about 10 to 10:30 am central time on the photos. Thanks again Kevin
Question about the starter solenoid wire on the FM1 connector pin 13. The second gen mr2 starting circuit is wired to the EA1 and EA3 connectors. Is the starter solenoid wire needed in the FM1 connect for the third gen sienna harness installation?
Yes, this video just simplifies the sienna harness to make it easier to comprehend when swapping into any car. What this video is missing though is that since then you can now just buy an adapter from Paul at Woodsport and avoid needing to do any of this. So this effort really only makes sense if you are going DIY with the wiring harness.
@@FrankensteinMotorworks yea I've noticed the 3rd gen Harnesses are going for 800 bucks and I can see why it can be very reliant for usage but surely enough going the 2gr route!
Yes, A/C is no problem you just use the 1GR-FE compressor listed on the shopping list: frankensteinmotorworks.squarespace.com/2gr-mkii-shopping-list and hook up the A/C clutch wire. I also sell A/C lines that bolt right up: frankensteinmotorworks.squarespace.com/shop/2gr-ac-conversion-lines
If the plugs are correct for the sensors on the motor and you pin out the ecu connection correctly anything could work. A wire harness is just a jumper of copper wire from the copper pins of the ecu to sensors or fuse block etc as long as the plugs are right and everythings wired like the rav4 pin out the swap ecu calls for it will run the motor. It's not rocket science to read wire diagrams. this is common practice across many chassis platforms. Im using a wire harness from a 2003 accord v-6 that I repinned out the ecu connections to match a 2004 acura tl ecu. Running a 2006 acura tl j32a3 in a 99 civic coupe. Its honestly alot of fun to figure out even got the drive by wire sensor to work from the tl in the civic
That's correct. the jumper harness is a much simpler part to work on and by breaking it down into two parts like that it may make it much easier for some to understand and alternatively you can do these mods and contact someone like Paul Woods to buy the jumper harness. Save a bit of money in the process.
Yes, you can use the 2008 camry harness with my rav4 ECU by just moving 4 pins on the large ECU plug. It isn't the easiest harness to work from though.
Hey Frankenstein motorworks how can I get ahold of you I have a 2012 camry 2gr and I've done some modifications to it and REALLY want to standard swap it hope ya get back to me thanks

QUICK QUESTION! I bought a 2011 Sienna wiring harness (8212108100) for this and your ECU...the wires in BA2 aren't in the same places (assuming the wires are the same and same color) Anybody have the diagram on those plugs that ill need to verify they are the same as the ones you move into the new harness? I cant find the MAF Airflow power, black and white wire
Right, that's the slightly earlier harness to what i documented. It actually still works just fine but the pinout on the chassis integration connectors is slightly different so you will have to use my info as a guide and tweak it a bit using the wiring diagram for the earlier sienna. Never wire by color unless you have an exact wiring diagram for that exact vin. the wire colors just change so often. If you do want to wire by color make sure you ohm it out with a voltmeter to confirm it goes to where you think it should.
You're like the Bob Ross of automotive wiring.
That's the best compliment i've ever gotten :) But really, anyone can do it, it isn't hard. Just happy little wires everywhere :)

Unfortunately not. the 2014 avalon uses the "mini" ecu with a unique connector.
