    Welcome to the first lesson in this new series on the endocrine system. In this lesson we provide a good overview of what the endocrine system is in review and explain about its function. We also cover the endocrine system anatomy and physiology from the glands to their locations to their purpose.
    We start off talking about the function of the endocrine system and contrast endocrine glands with exocrine glands. We then move on to explain how the endocrine system and the nervous system are working together throughout the body to achieve a whole host of different goals.
    From there we take a look at hormones and what they are and how they work and how they are used by the endocrine system to achieve effects at target cells. Next we move on to talk about the feedback mechanism that is used to help to regulate the release of these hormone.
    Finally we finish out the lesson with a look at the anatomy and physiology of all of the endocrine glands in the body and talk about their location, function, and how most of them work together within this complex endocrine system.
    The goal is to provide a good foundation of understanding of the endocrine system so that as we move forward in future lessons, we can take this knowledge of the basics and apply it to understanding what is going wrong with the various disorders and disease that you can find your patients in.

    Watching, because I’ve been having continuous anxiety that starts before I wake fully, and my tummy starts churning, then the adrenaline, then the anxiety. Doctors are still trying to figure out why. They did say I have a higher red platelet count, above normal, but don’t know why either. However, all this did start within the month that Covid, lockdown and Homeschooling started, and I immediately stopped periods that month and was told I was in post menopause. So I think it’s definitely hormone related. Thank you for the video, I will check out your other videos.

    Endorine gland dumps hormones into the blood stream. How do hormones get out of the blood stream and into the semifluid surrounding the cells? Is not the blood stream a closed loop with oxygen and CO2 gasses being diffused, but hormones are soluble solids?

    • @ICUAdvantage
      @ICUAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question. While the blood stream is a closed loop, the walls of vessels, particularly in the capillaries are semipermeable. The hormones can diffuse across at the target organ and bind with receptors either on the cell membrane or within, depending on the hormone.
