Exelente forma de controlar el motor , se puede variar el tiempo de energizacion se la bobina! . me parece que en el cilindro en la parte superior esta solo descuvierta por un tubo , de ser posible si deja libre la pare trasera el pistpn se va a desplasar mejor
That's to control the on-time for the portion of the rotation that it would actually matter. It has a triangular wedge cut out, which allows for a higher speed (greater % duty cycle for the solenoid driver circuit) as he pushes the brush further from the return wire.
A cylinder with a contact changes the moment the solenoid is turned on and off. If the solenoid has more time turned on, the speed is greater, if the time of the turned on solenoid is minimal, then the rotation speed is minimal.
That speed control is genius !
This is essentially a mechanical PWM (pulse-width modulation).

A connection diagram is shown at 2:12. This is a standard solenoid motor, but with adjustable solenoid on / off torque.
