Thanks for the tour Tom,beautiful church. You didn’t happen to come across the musket minister buried in the graveyard, the Rev Sinclair Kilburn did you?
I was delighted to get this tour Mark. It was totally unexpected I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. No musket found unfortunately. It wasn't even mentioned. We live very close to the church as the crow flies it's about a mile.
Wonderful video Tom. I’ve passed this church so many times and always wanted to know more about its history and to see inside and look at some of the memorials/plaques. Reminds me of Dundrod Presbyterian Church with its wooden gallery.
Many thanks Michael. I got into Castlereagh Presbyterian church almost by 'accident'. i just happened to be in the right place at the right time! ( Sometimes things just happen to me like that! lol ) Anyway I was well pleased because the chap who led me round, ( a Mr Busby ), was very knowledgeable and passionate about the building! 5 minutes later and i would have missed him dropping by! He was very helpful.
What a fantastic video! Trevor certainly knows his stuff, well done Trevor!👍 lovely church, full of interesting facts! I have permission to detect in the fields just behind the church Which I have, and have found a good few things.well done Tom 👍
Many thanks again Andy. I was up at Castlereagh church to video its' outside when Trevor arrived to do some work. He was only too happy to show me round! I was amazed to get inside! Yes Trevor was quite the historian. He really did know his stuff! He is going to give me a tour of the gravyard too. It is full of interesting dates etc We talked about Grey castle fort which was one of the strongholds of Conn O Neil on this high point. He pointed down the hill to Grey Castle Manor and said the fort was right at the top of the hill overlooking it. So I reckon it would be well worth your while checking out these fields and nearby filds if you can get into them. Who knows what you might come up with! I think there are WW2 barrage ballon anchor points in the playing field cat park too. i must check. I never realized the congregation here went back so far! Silly me.
What a beautiful setting May. It was a joy to be guided round the church by Trevor. I love old buildings like this. Great history, great architecture, great stories. I met Rev Hastings way back then. Best wishes from the Castlereagh Hills.
I was Steven,. I was thrilled to manage to get into the church and especially video that old 1754 plaque. i was delighted to come across someone as knowlegeable as Trevor too. Someone who was as much an 'obsessive' as myself! lol
A good hill to carry your mate down on the bar or to test your brakes Ted? Not!!! lol I would be afraid of someone pulling out on me from a side avenue etc.
