We were really lucky to live in an era were Prince was alive, he really is up there with genius like Mozart, Picasso, Dali, Einstein, Tesla, Hitchcox, Kubrick, Warhol, Basquiat, Shakespeare, Chaplin etc.
He was an amazing talent & huge inspiration... this is such a diffuse list.. idk how accurate or valuable all these comparisons are beyond : people that culturally "got over" to one degree or another .. Einstein & Tesla are such high IQ raw innovators in completely different walks of life & time periods.. not artists .. that idk what value is there in those comparisons beyond.. "you happened to get famous" lists... Basquiat.. who I have love for.. but was a completely " right place right time " phenomenon.. that would have continued in complete obscurity had it not been for rich benefactors projecting their personal mind frames upon his work & living vicariously thru his fame, is the worst example... If Prince had toiled in mediocrity or even obscurity & never got noticed.. whatever he produced would still eventually have objective value outside the fame he enjoyed because he could write banger songs far better than most that had intrinsic value.
@@StruggleoftheOutsider I can't tell you enough how much I miss comments like yours, real opinion from people that is really cultivated. Completely agree with you. Thank you.
I wasn't into 80s music but admire Prince now thru his amazing guitar playing. He & Richie Blackmore amazing dexterity on the frets & both with similar problematic social kills. Goes with the job.
Every Prince album during his career served it's purpose and legacy. He never released a bad album nor an album that was unlistenable and anyone that says otherwise just wasn't a fan.
Do you have to be a fan of an artist to objectively offer a critique on an artists output? That’s not how it works. Btw, for what it’s worth, I also think his music’s incredible 😂
That's a lie. "Diamonds and pearls" was iconic. His album "love symbol" from 1992.. is very underrated because it had his most underrated RNB songs that are so beautiful. "The come" album as well..."emancipation " was very misunderstood. Some of the albums were hit or miss. But in the early 2000s..."musicology " was his best 2000s album.

I’ve been looking for this documentary for YEARS..I first saw it (on pbs I think) a long time ago and have never forgotten it. What stood out for me was the song at the end, called The Ladder..it’s a song about going to heaven, and there’s a line in it that says “The reward is great, for those who want to go!” Do YOU want to go to heaven? Jesus said in the Gospel of John that God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son that so whosoever believes in Him shall not die, but have eternal life!” John 3:16. Who would you like to meet in the afterlife? Prince, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, am just grateful to hear his voice and only wish I could thank him for what he left us.
What a nice documentary about Prince, the people in his inner sphere and the well oiled machine he had going on. Alan Leeds is just wonderful and were so exited to work w. Prince even though their relationship became strange.. There was some clips I haven't seen B4. I'm not religious, but have felt the spirituality every time I saw him perform live and I still do, when I watch concert videos. It's been 7 yrs and 2 days since he left this world and I still get sad, thinking of him dying all by himself. I'm still not over his early death, but the huge amount of music, that he left behind for us to enjoy helps a little bit. I get the warm fussy feeling along with butterflies in my tummy when I think of how much he impacted my life. I felt that I had a friend, who understood me! 💜💜💜💜💜💜❤ Peace & B wild! BTW: Prince chewing gum is the sexiest sound.
I saw Price in concert in the 1990’s at the Genisis center in Gary Indiana. It was the best concert ever. I had posters of him on his motorcycle. How do unfortunately 9:48 a thief which was my niece stole them. I only have one picture on my phone of my poster of Prince. Best musician of all times. Truly is missed. The man who killed him is going to Reap what he did to him. Rip Prince Roger Nelson.❤😇

I watched this documentary when it first aired on the 14th December 1991 on BBC 1. I recorded it on VHS 📼. The copy I have there is no interview with Alan Leeds and Benny Medina. I read on a comment further down it was on PBS..is this how it was broadcast there?
See Nelson George had to back off of Prince when he thought Prince wasn't paying any attention to him to later find out Prince was and put him in a song, specifically, in the BLACK LABEL ALBUM...Nelson's not laughing now as a critic...Prince taught him a lesson...c/c
This stands as one of if not THE best documentaries on Prince ever made. From what I heard, Prince let Omnibus unprecidented access to Paisley Park Studios, backstage on tours, etc. AND The Vault especially video and film footage. But, most of what they did try to use was pulled back or edited by Prince, omitted upon his request. It would be great if the original producers, editors would provide the original to Prince's Estate so they can include it with a Lovesexy Super Deluxe. Perhaps with omitted, removed content. Originally it came out right after Lovesexy and later updated for the early 90s right after Diamonds & Pearls which is this one.
This is different to the version that first aired on the BBC. When I watched it there was no Alan Leeds, or Benny Medina. Maybe a slightly different version was aired in the US.
Prince saved my life. EyE was going through so much in my life in the early 80s. EyE wanted to kill myself because everything was just freaking horrible. One day while cutting class, EyE stood lost in space. EyE had no clue that EyE was even cutting class. EyE heard a voice and as EyE was coming back N2 the reality of this world. A past graduate who lived near the school was standing there asking if EyE was ok. It was so cold out, but EyE hadn't realEyEz'd it. My tears were literally frozen on my face. EyE was never one to express what was going on in my life, however for some reason, EyE let it all out, including my suicidal thoughts. The young man asked mi to not do that and then asked if EyE was familiar with an artist named Prince. EyE said, yes immediately followed by, he's my favorite artist! He says, have you ever owned any of his albums. EyE hung my head and said no. EyE just hear what's played on the air and it's as if he is speaking to mi. He says, if you promise to meet mi here tomorrow, EyE will LEND you my albums, there's one song in particular that EyE want you to listen to though. EyE said ok and met him the next day. EyE was in shock that he would trust mi,a complete stranger to that town with his much prized possessions. He told mi the name of the song. EyE couldn't wait to get home and play the album on my record player. EyE played the sing he wanted mi to listen to last. It is called "Free". As EyE listened, it was as if something happened in my spirit world. EyE was instantly UPlifted and those burdened locks fell off of mi. EyE listened repeatedly to the songs over the weekend. EyE felt so revived. On Monday when EyE returned the album, my new friend said they her could cee a change in mi. A few months later, EyE moved away, losing touch with my friend. However having a new relationship with Prince. EyE was able to cee Prince once in my lifetime and he was so close that EyE could reach out and touch him. The smell of his body was heavenly. It was all that EyE needed. EyE wanted so much to tell him how his song saved my life and how over the years whenever things would be happening to mi, he'd always write a song that would speak words of life N2 my spirit as if wi were telepathically connected. EyE shall ALWAYS be eternally grateful for his life, his music, his legacy and for the fact that he saved mi. Recently, EyE reconnected with the young man who introduced mi to a deeper level of Prince and the powRA of his music. It had been more than thirty years. It has been a joyful reunion. He'll forever be my friend. Our families have yet to mi, but my husband is so grateful for him introducing mi to a song that would change not only my life, but save it as well. Beloved Prince, EyE know that you're still looking out for mi, because even now when EyE simply think about you, EyE hear your beautiful voice in my ears. You are always alive in my 💜
The song 1999 says that life is a party and that parties weren’t meant to last. I guess Prince’s life was too much of a party and therefore not serious enough!
A sellout??....the man owned his masters before he died. something most artist can't do. He wasn't a sellout. He sacrificed his commercial success and went to the church. Did more for his community. Prince is definitely in heaven.
