Per forza non sembrano naturali, devono pensare a farli. Invece noi li abbiamo imparati come abbiamo imparato a parlare e ci vengono snaturali, senza doverci pensare, come parte del linguaggio.

And when Italia was unificade people did not speak the same language and they must understanding each other in somehow. HAND GESTURES :) (sorry my broken english)

34 years old born and raised in Rome here.
The gestures explanation is correct and they actually exist. But if you're travelling to Italy expecting to see this stuff in the middle of a random conversation you're going to be disappointed. They are actually very rare. I know these gestures and I know their meaning but I can't remember the last time I saw them in real life. They just work for a funny video on youtube but you dont see them unless you're talking with a 110 years old granny in some small country in the middle of the nowhere.
The most common is probably the "what are you talking about" gesture but it's still rare to see.
Everytime I talk with foreign people if I just raise a hand while talking they get excited! "He's going to do some italian funny gesture!! oh that's so italian!!"
    C'mon guys... : D

Agree with all things Ricardo said. In Buenos Aires the hand in the groin you can see it al the time and even on Tv when approching something seen as bad luck or when talking about a person who people believe brings bad luck. On the Ti ammazzo sign its done by biting the bent index finger.

7:05 he makes the "what are you saying gesture" because, despite what he says, that gesture has mutiple meanings. For example it can be used while talking to express the core of the speech or an important part of it. In fact he says "That's the good of the italian hand gestures", which is the main thing he wanted to say. It can be translated as "That's the all point". The hand won't be shaking freely, but it will rather be moving slightly up and down.

Lol! I love the references, all from "my time" (BSB, Power Ranges, britney). And the video is great, my grandma lived in Italy and i learned that "i don't care" sign from her. I do it all the time. And btw, the "Rock on" gesture is with your thumb in (otherwise is "I love you" in sign lenguage) \m/

Even in Greece we do the "good luck" sign but for us is a little different. We do it not to bring good luck but to avoid bad luck, something like knocking on wood (which we also do) In Greece though both man and women have to scratch their genitals (you imagine how embarrassing).

I think that this gesture is common in every region in Italy, 'cause I saw people from the North to the South use this type of warding.. I'm not pretty sure about it (just like Riccardo in the video), but I think that it is really common and used almost everywhere 😁

I'm an Italian student, from Verona, and I'm not agree with Riccardo: the gesture with the hand in the mouth and the superstition one aren't used any more. In addition, in the north of Italy, we use the gesture for "What do you want?" and "I don't care" only with friends and not every single day. They are offensive with people we don't know and also with parents, because they may express impoliteness with them
