Ypu just CAN NOT build a hockey team like a Nba team, first you cant allot 39 mill between 3 players and expect to have depth and second, center depth is more important than wingers. Our 2c position is set in stone now. Everyone said Florida was braindead for trading Huberdeau AND Weeger for Tkachuk yet look where those players and teams are. Lets just be patient and see how this looks a year and a half down the road, hockey isnt all talent, chemistry and fit are way more important than talent
@UrkaZerka mitts has been OK and thats in a down year and now we have Necas, our centers could possibly be 1c Mack, 2c Necas, 3c Mittlestadt. That's some center depth we've never had plus Necas can slot into winger easily
Tkachuk was at the same level as Huberdeau but 6 years younger. Weegar was a liability that we gladly got rid of. Florida won that trade from day one. I argued this with alot of our fans. Nostalgia is the only reason people disagreed. This situation is not comparable at all. Also, Paul Maurice changed florida. Not only Tkachuk.
@IPJimmyA7X , Canes fan here bro , Nachos hasnt really played C since the Czech League and that one year in AHL . He probably can do it cause its been my frustration that Rod the bod never gave him a shot there but he's played 85 percent at RW and some LW .
This was a good move. Sorry, but it was. Love Mikko, will miss him, but I'm excited to be able to get depth. You can't win the Cup with that many max contracts. Excited to see this new team.
@@HurricaneTBag how is overpaying him or letting him walk for nothing better than what happened? You can't be competitive if you give too much of your cap to a few guys. Ask the Leafs
Colorado fans, please don't scold Martin Necas if he doesn't play well in the future. He is not responsible for the exchange at all. Necas is a technical player and needs to have like-minded players around him. Avs fan from the Czech Republic.
Hall wasnt going to bring in anything more than that. They agreed to retain as a favor, that the hawks will ask for in the future from the canes. Thats why the third team comes in, to basically retain.
Its just for the rest of the season, Taylor Hall is not changing their season's fortunes, might as well get draft capital. (I hate the blackhawks btw, just not a bad move for them as I see it)
This whole thing is totally inconsequential for the Hawks. If anything, they get some goodwill from the other teams for being this accommodating, so they win IMO and their part of the deal has the least uncertainty
@ondrejlukas326get better management. They should have dropped Val and Landys contracts last year. A terrible decision that is now killing the teams core.
Necas being in good team is maybe true but he was extremely under used with playing with less minutes and with 3rd line guys. Everytime he got used right with good guys and one first PP he instantly became best player on Canes...
To be fair Mac did a solid for the team for steal and if MIko wanted another cup idk why he would not do the same just shows u something was happening off the ice. i understand that agents are not players but they can get bent.
Same agent as draisaitl, same batman robin scenario...oilers and avs. Except avs arent going to repeat the mistake of the oilers, who should have traded draisaitl for depth.
yeah obviously mikko isnt a franchise player. guys like him or draisaitl arent going to act like franchise guys and help with cap space. they want their money. colorados core guys want to win, have plenty of off ice incentives and sponsorship etc... its tough seeing mikko go, but its definitely for the best. Necas is a total stud. him playing next to mackinnon will be amazing to see
People are not giving enough credit to Necas. Sure he isn't Mikko. But he is a 6 mil a year player that has put up 71 points on a team that has a hard time scoring and on pace for over a point pre game this year. For a ufa set to make 14 mil a year. Sure a great ufa but still a ufa.
Drury is a super solid pickup for only 1.75m to boot - SUPER hard to get a player that what he does for that money. Faceoff wiz kid who plays a super smart two-way game with a focus on D. He's gonna win important faceoffs and board battles at critical moments for you guys. Your D game just notably improved regardless of the fact that you got Necas...
I am good with Moose moving on. I agree to focus on MAC and Cale and using some of that salary and Landy's salary next year to build the team out. The other teams like JETS and STARS have good players but not all great players
I am gutted. This is the kind of thing that gives you a temp check of the office, and this tells me that they don't believe this team can have continued success with Mikko. I know you can't let him walk, but you have to get more for a player of that caliber. This is a bad trade, and other moves dont change this fact. CMac has about a month to save his job because as is you have to fire him
You say Necas is not Rantanen level player. You may be right or not but I think he is way better than 6 miljon $ that I believe his current contract is worth. I believe he gets to play with good line and quite surprise the fans
I am so disappointed that Mikko got traded...ESPECIALLY for so little. Not even a 1st rounder... If we got Necas AND Hall, plus a 1st and 4th or 5th. Okay, but super stars don't get traded like this for lower value and a 2nd and 4th...
Necas is a rising star, in the right position he will put up numbers close to Mikko at $8 million less. That 8 million is worth way way more than a first rounder. You can afford an 8.7 million a year Crosby with that savings.
@@waynethera2712 Personally, I don't see him putting up 40-50 goals and 100 points a season, but all I can say is that I hope you're right. Otherwise...
People need to stop looking at this as a 1 for 1 trade. It just isn't. Wedgewood and Blackwood were. There's other pieces to this that's setting up something else. It just has that smell. If it doesn't happen by the deadline, they'll look like fools and heads should roll.
There is zero factual information to support the thesis that Mac would be mad about someone on the team making more money than him. I don't know why they even threw that out there.
I think this ship was gunna sink this season either way. But maybe next season they can get out of the post cup hole they've been in with the depth issue.

But I think the avalanche are gonna make a big move to replace rantanen before the deadline
Ok, so the thing i keep hearing is if landy comes back… what if Landy does not? We had 4 centers and just added 2. Now we have 6 centers and 5.6 in cap space. If mittsy is on the block that is 5.5 in addition. Thats 11 mil to use on a big fish? Marner? Toronto could use a replacement for their overpayed former captain JT. Does mitsy make sense for them with 4 years remaining on his contract and potential 2C upside? I sure hope so… Marner would be an upgrade over mikko in effort and defensive iq, with almost the same offensive upside. Just think Drouin/nuke, the Dogg, and Marner on the top line.
You dont trade the moose. They had until july 1st to get a deal done. As an avs fan i would rather have one more cup run with moose ,mack, and makar and risk him walking. Sakic will always be my captain but the byram, zadorov, and now Rants deals make no sense to me.
Also not signing Keumper after the cup win made no sense. Look how many goalies the avs have gone through to end up with Blackwood as the starter. They better have an ace up their sleeve or they are going to waste Makar and McKinnon prime years.
Well, it’s the nature of things in the league. Players get traded and players walk. You dont get to hog all the best players and keep them indefinitely like some perennial top teams in the European soccer leagues
You guys are really downplaying how good Necas is. If he signs a deal with the Avs at like 8M x5 years; and consistently puts up 80 points with Mackinnon; this is a win. That 6M a year savings allows the team to comfortably lock up Makar, and won’t be handcuffed to the cap.
Holy shit this is a wildcard team. Their not winning a cup with without him. Did u not watch this team the last 2 seasons. This move is a domino to set up another 7 year window. I'm good with it. And looking forward to c how good Necas can be and also he's versatile and can be an answer at 2c come playoff time
I wonder if there was underlying tension in the locker room that may have caused this. BUT losing Mikko, with VN going sideways, AGAIN, and having Landeskog just hanging around with no help on the ice for what, 2 years now, there needs to be something done. And he may have left anyway in FA. But IMHO we need to let Landy go. He isn't getting younger , and has bad knees. And He is taking cap space away that can be used for other players. But I still don't see them going any where in the playoffs, and with them sputtering they may not even make it in.
Actually, I had a lot of concerns about Mikko’s plays especially in the D zone, as well as his very poor pack handling one on one. Interested to see how he will perform without Mac. I expect his performance will dramatically drop. Curious…
They had to do this it was either this or you get nothing at the end of the season he wanted 14 million a year that’s more than Nathan MacKinnon there’s no way they could do that
@ I get that, but salaries are going up quickly and I figured they would do whatever it takes sign him. Especially since the cap will be increasing and all that. He will get $14 from someone. Look at the Leafs, they are paying big bucks for 4 guys.
@@StephanJPerea look at the Leafs? I prefer the Avs strategy of NOT overpaying guys and actually being successful in the playoffs. Rantanen is the better player for sure, but 6.5mil Necas is straight up better than 14+ mil Rantanen. They traded HALF A SEASON of Mikko, thats it, and he could've been gone for nothing. Feels like a gut punch as a fan, but its a smart move
This is insane. How the hell. So we are giving up being a contender is what you're saying. Mikko was unwilling to budge is my guess. I just hope we get some players who actuakly want to be there. Maybe keep Ivan Ivan on the roster permanently and for cheap. And you know what? Mikko never backchecks. I said it. He never does. Sorry I just totally went through the 5 stages of grief on one comment 😂
Tough break for you guys, your team had to trade away a homegrown guy who was on his way to the short list of franchise legends because he wasn't willing to be underpaid (or do the organization a solid based on your POV) like the best player on your team in MacKinnon. The hope is that the $13M+ that Moose was supposedly seeking per year can be spread around to ice a deeper team.
If they traded to get Barkov, I could see this making sense but trading away rattanen and only necas is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen man did you guys get fleeced
I just got far enough in the comments, is that right, we got only 2 second round draft picks for Mikko? Screw that. Should be a first round draft pick and a second. At least.
Smart move by the Avs getting rid of Rantanen now. He's about to cost too much money and it's better to get some guys for him before he walks away and the Avs get nothing. Let some other team with money give him his payday.
I am torn on my opinion of moose. He's an A+ tier Robin. But he carried the injury laden team to a playoff appearance in the after cup season. I can make arguments on both sides if he's worth the full pay check. I guess we will see in Carolina. I hate to see him go Hoping the best for him.
Landy travelled with the team, could you imagine if they did a surprise we’ve activated Gabe off IR (not gonna happen but still) Genuinely gutted to see the Moose Loose. Only time will tell and further trades
This is how a team gives up on a season. You might as well sell everything. Scoring depth means nothing if your top line can't punch. This top line is B- at best now, and that's WITH MacKinnon
Necas was one of the top scorers in the East, just as Rantanen was in the West. Give him a little credit for being younger and faster with a harder shot. He'll be fine.
A few points. 1. Some teams have a lot of their team's cap space tied up in few players. They generally do well in the regular season, but not as well in the playoffs. A more complete roster seems to do better in the post season. 2. Necas is very fast and highly skilled. He hasn't had Rantanen numbers but I'll guess Rantanen without MacKinnon will slow down and Necas with MacKinnon will pick up the scoring pace. Necas is far better defensively than Rantanen, so even if his points end up lower the team's defense is better so that might balance anyway. 3. Drury solidifies the bottom six with a hard working player who is really good on faceoffs. 4. I think the Avs now have some cap space, so could be planning on another move before the deadline.
@@Ualaa over 50% career on faceoffs on a team that sits currently at 31st in faceoff win %, this was NEEDED no matter what anyone says and necas with mac and rants without i bet end up close in points necas is only 9 behind mikko as it sits now anyways mikko is great but not worth 14 this is a solid trade imo and i agree with your points!

- management did not want to pay Mikko more than what Natjan earns, i.e. mire than 12,5 M USD.
- they dont believe they can ein Stanley Cup again
- Mikko did not believe they could win SC again.
-the owners and GM got crazy.
They threw the towel on ice.
Necas is a good player but far from level of Rantanen.
Lol
Ypu just CAN NOT build a hockey team like a Nba team, first you cant allot 39 mill between 3 players and expect to have depth and second, center depth is more important than wingers. Our 2c position is set in stone now. Everyone said Florida was braindead for trading Huberdeau AND Weeger for Tkachuk yet look where those players and teams are. Lets just be patient and see how this looks a year and a half down the road, hockey isnt all talent, chemistry and fit are way more important than talent
Our 2c is dogshit and hardly scored all year
@UrkaZerka mitts has been OK and thats in a down year and now we have Necas, our centers could possibly be 1c Mack, 2c Necas, 3c Mittlestadt.
@@UrkaZerkathanks Chris MacFarland! Loser GM all over that one just like this creamy shit of a deal
This was a good move. Sorry, but it was. Love Mikko, will miss him, but I'm excited to be able to get depth. You can't win the Cup with that many max contracts. Excited to see this new team.
Mikko Rantanen will still have scored the most goals for the Avs by the trade deadline. You also can’t win the cup without goal scorers.
@@HurricaneTBag ok so we should've let him walk for nothing? That's somehow better?
@@HurricaneTBag how is overpaying him or letting him walk for nothing better than what happened? You can't be competitive if you give too much of your cap to a few guys. Ask the Leafs
@ how’s the Tkachuk trade help the Flames?
Well he is going to hook up with Aho again. Making Canes a contender this season.
Colorado fans, please don't scold Martin Necas if he doesn't play well in the future. He is not responsible for the exchange at all.
Necas is a technical player and needs to have like-minded players around him.
Avs fan from the Czech Republic.
Chicago got absolutely hosed 😂 50% of Mikkos salary and Taylor Hall for a 3rd round pick? That’s a big fat L
That’s what I was thinking. Like, did I miss something!?
Hall wasnt going to bring in anything more than that. They agreed to retain as a favor, that the hawks will ask for in the future from the canes. Thats why the third team comes in, to basically retain.
@@anthonyfaccaro7118 yep exactly, basically Chicago was just used by the Canes to launder money lol
We are in a wild card spot with a UFA set to make 14 million a year, something had to give.
Makes me sick to my stomach. Been an Avs fan since 95 n I love the moose. Almost want to root for the canes now.
So what would you want Avs to do? Overpay him? Or let him walk away for nothing?
Necas is a total stud. him playing next to mackinnon will be amazing to see
Need Dater on again! He reported Avs have been looking to trade Mikko for a long time, after Mikko cut off negotiations during the season
Surprising trades like these keep interest in NHL drafts alive👍
I am good with Moose moving on. I agree to focus on MAC and Cale and using some of that salary and Landy's salary next year to build the team out. The other teams like JETS and STARS have good players but not all great players
I am gutted. This is the kind of thing that gives you a temp check of the office, and this tells me that they don't believe this team can have continued success with Mikko. I know you can't let him walk, but you have to get more for a player of that caliber. This is a bad trade, and other moves dont change this fact. CMac has about a month to save his job because as is you have to fire him
Trust Sakic and co.
You say Necas is not Rantanen level player. You may be right or not but I think he is way better than 6 miljon $ that I believe his current contract is worth. I believe he gets to play with good line and quite surprise the fans
Drury will surprize you guys as well...
@@waynethera2712no he isnt. He won't be but an 70 point man his entire career.
Sounds like MacKinnon is a really insecure dude if he gets upset at the possibility of Mikko getting paid more than him.
Where you get that? Lmao, Sure he could care Less. What a stupid comment
@@shirleydaley5335true I never hear anything about Nate saying that. Not even a rumor.
Necas wont be enough to replace.
Or he could end up being better
Unless the Avs get some crazy depth pieces along the way then i think the Avs sunk their ship this season.
100%!
I think this ship was gunna sink this season either way. But maybe next season they can get out of the post cup hole they've been in with the depth issue.
Im a Ranger fan, im pissed you guys traded him to our rivals!! you should have got back at least a 1st round pick or a top prospect along with necas, what a failure by the avs GM, im just hoping rantanen walks in the offseason!!
That 6M a year savings allows the team to comfortably lock up Makar, and won’t be handcuffed to the cap.
good thing we got a steal with blackwoods 5 year contract .
Holy shit this is a wildcard team. Their not winning a cup with without him. Did u not watch this team the last 2 seasons. This move is a domino to set up another 7 year window. I'm good with it. And looking forward to c how good Necas can be and also he's versatile and can be an answer at 2c come playoff time
He doesn't really play center.
I’m stunned but as a jets fan I was sick of Mikko kicking are ass in the playoffs so thank you.
Pens fan. If Carolina rents Mikko and Mikko becomes a UFA it will be really interesting what team he signs with and for how much money.
Curious…
Not a big fan of this trade.
Agreed, I don’t get it on any level…
They had to do this it was either this or you get nothing at the end of the season he wanted 14 million a year that’s more than Nathan MacKinnon there’s no way they could do that
@ I get that, but salaries are going up quickly and I figured they would do whatever it takes sign him. Especially since the cap will be increasing and all that. He will get $14 from someone. Look at the Leafs, they are paying big bucks for 4 guys.
Yea but I also don’t think they are done trading
You should’ve gotten Sebastian Aho for him or somebody much better then necas
Tough break for you guys, your team had to trade away a homegrown guy who was on his way to the short list of franchise legends because he wasn't willing to be underpaid (or do the organization a solid based on your POV) like the best player on your team in MacKinnon. The hope is that the $13M+ that Moose was supposedly seeking per year can be spread around to ice a deeper team.
Goodbye Mikko good vibes to you we will miss you. Remember you can come back. 🏒🫶🏼
At least.
Martin Necas, Jack Drury, a second, and a fourth.
@kingdavid7571 I'm speaking in terms of the draft picks. Not one first round pick. I would think that would be the most coveted item in the trade.
Smart move by the Avs getting rid of Rantanen now. He's about to cost too much money and it's better to get some guys for him before he walks away and the Avs get nothing. Let some other team with money give him his payday.
interesting hurts like Peter The Great
Speaking of the front office I have to think this deal has career implications.
Hope Mikko gets 7x12.7M deal.
Sakic learned his lesson from Paul Stastny!
Sakic didint make the deal he is not the GM
I am torn on my opinion of moose. He's an A+ tier Robin.
But he carried the injury laden team to a playoff appearance in the after cup season.
I can make arguments on both sides if he's worth the full pay check. I guess we will see in Carolina. I hate to see him go Hoping the best for him.
Screw him! If he wasn't being so damn greedy, they wouldn't have made this hideous trade!
maybe he wanted to leave
Yk it’s actually sad he has to move across the country in less then a day and play the same day w new ppl he may have never even talked to before
I'm feeling pretty sick to my stomach right now...
Is the Avs owner broke or something? Lose a franchise type player over $1.5M? Couldn't make it up anywhere else? Just makes no sense.
Ever heard of a salary cap and unrestricted free agent?
so pay top dollar for a guy who isn't even top 5 in the league imo.. Yeah ok.. don't ever be a sports owner goofy
Landy travelled with the team, could you imagine if they did a surprise we’ve activated Gabe off IR (not gonna happen but still)
Genuinely gutted to see the Moose Loose.
Now they're a 1/2 line team instead of a 1 line team. Missing the playoffs seems likely now.
I hate this trade. Mikko should have settled in 12 mil... Congrats to Carolina
@@Ualaa over 50% career on faceoffs on a team that sits currently at 31st in faceoff win %, this was NEEDED no matter what anyone says
and necas with mac and rants without i bet end up close in points
necas is only 9 behind mikko as it sits now anyways
mikko is great but not worth 14
this is a solid trade imo and i agree with your points!
Do what you got to do. McFarland but if my favorite players aren't on the team I ain't watching it. I'm done with hockey this year and probably next year too. I've been avalanche fan since 95
Its a sad day for sure. 😞
Now trade Mitts back to Sabres for Zucker. Avs had to make this move unfortunately especially with his request 14 mill ++ per.
Not if you want to keep Makar
It's too bad, but I get it. Gotta draw the line somewhere when it comes to spending so much on just a few guys.
I don't think the Avs are done. They just got some draft picks they can flip.
Makar is gonna get paid. He is not gonna take a team friendly deal. Neither did Mckinnon. Why would Rantanen need to take it then
Top Finland line , Rantanen , Aho, Kotkaniemi. Makes sense
Look I know the rest of y’all avs fans are doom and gloom but honestly I think we truly won that trade and I think we are a better team, necas is young and barely behind rantanen in points, rantanen is gonna severely drop his point totals in Carolina and necas is gonna skyrocket, we added more depth and have more cap space. In one months time you guys will see it the front office knows what they are doing
I think teams are overvaluing Necas. Because of the ridiculous hot start he had. But if you look at underlining numbers he was a sell sky high
Deliberate move .. with the cap the core is now mak , Makar , and Blackwood .. with guys who are really good but affordable
Lots of copium in the comment's lol. Avs should have paid Rantanen, hes a top talent in the league. He was worth the 14M AAV.
Canes fan here
Isn't 1 problem that Necas is going to want 10+ at the end of next season
He will have to perform at that level here first. No one is gonna give that contract anywhere if he gets 50 points or whatever
@@OsbornsConcise He had 55 points in 49 games when the trade happened. One point short of being tied for 3rd in the east behind only Kucherov and Marner.
@@hockeyhacker5 great :)
i feel like this deal was coming awhile ago and thats why mikkos has been phoning it in last week and a half :( , and like a another guy said welp that will change up the pp lmao but cant pay mikko 14 mil when we have to resign cale for the rest of his life ,hey maybe we can get crosby if pitts retains alot of his salary .
Im an avs fan im glad rantanen is gone him at 14mil just screws the team over even mackinnons contract screws the team. We need better players and with high contracts like that on the team and makar needs a deal. Colorado doesnt have the space and they cant keep being a 3 player team. The rest of the players on the avs are just fill ins. This deal needed to happen.
I’m a Colorado transplant to Vegas and cannot believe the Avs pulled this deal. I don’t get it. GKG!
Necas makes the avs better next year over letting Mikko walk for nothing
Woulda thought we would trade Mitts before Mikko.. but wow.
I'm not happy 😕
Will Caroline pay mikko ratten or is he just a rental they would not pay guentzel
This trade blows!
Seth Jarvis is so much better than Necas how was he not in this deal
Wait I thought he was gonna take a team friendly deal because you guys could offer 8 years??? 🤣🤣🤣
Shocking 😢
If you paid mikko what he wanted then you lose makar when his contract is up. Who would you rather have mikko or makar and it's a simple answer you keep makar!!!! And just for the record, I love mikko but he's not worth MacKinnon money.
The Avs couldn't afford him. Having 2 capable forwards isn't sufficient. There's more moves coming.
Ma boy Shag has a bad reaction like me when Draisaitl and McDavid are mentioned.
All give the trade a F Rantanen has been dependable their only goal scorer besides MacKinnon Nichushkin is always hurt cant even play a full year Chris McFarland needs to be terminated they could have signed him and franchised him and still get compensation
