I got this scene naturally on my first play through and the vampire scene didn’t happen until after the tiefling party and beating the hag. It’s funny to think that Tav saw Astarion shirtless, seen the puncture scars on his neck and shoved their tongue in his mouth, and still didn’t realise man’s a vampire
Well he does walk around just fine in the sun. People have scars, and pointy canines, without being blood-sucking fiends. Also Tav isn't the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes.
If you get to the underdark/Selune temple and haven't found out he's a vampire yet, if his approval is high enough he will straight up tell you he's a vampire. You can tell him "well, obviously" and he;s like "oh....right. glad we got that out of the way"
To be fair, he is also bypassing the biggest known vampire weakness by walking about in the sunlight. Not even a proper vampire can do that. I think if anything people might assume some drow ancestry from the hair and eye color combo. (The bite scar is admittedly harder to explain away).

That's interesting. The amount of permutation in this game is mind-boggling. Doesn't Astarion bite you after 3 long rests? How did you manage to get to the victory party without finding out he's a vampire? Also, I wonder what happens if you encounter the vampire hunter before realizing Astarion is a vampire.
I think if you explore too much and long rest too little the camp bite scene gets pushed out by other long rest scenes like meeting the guardian and some extra scenes if you’re playing Dark Urge. For this footage I purposely loaded a save that where the bite scene hadn’t happened and then killed the 3 goblin leaders to force the party because I wanted to see the differences. In my first playthrough I (for some reason) thought that long resting would move the world forward and that I’d miss stuff so I tried to long rest as little as possible. I had so many cutscenes backlogged for so long until I finally realized it was fine to long rest as much as you want 😂 The conversation with the vampire hunter is different too! He doesn’t tell you the name of his prey and Astarion is really nervous and ready to kill him without much explanation. So many different things that can happen in the game I love it.
If you stay quiet and let him talk to the vampire hunter, he stabs him in the eye. You can go such a long time without knowing and it feels far more genuine if you find the boar first then the vamp hunter and then find out more.
@@FauxShi I'm just wondering how you managed to get Astarion's approval rating high enough for him to agree to sleep with your character during the tiefling party camp scene, if you not yet had the bite scene or the vampire hunter encounter or giving him the Necromancy of Thay book or all the other stuff where you can gain approval with him, how did you get above Neutral (where he would reject you) to High (where he does)? Or did recent patches make him less fickle again? I read early on in Early Access he was allegedly easy to romance, then in late EA Larian made it harder, but recently I've seen footage of him even proposing Tav long before the Act 1 camp party scene if approval is high enough. I guess to increase the chance for the revelation of his scars scene which automatically happens after first sleeping with him... although if players never romanced him or never managed to sleep with Astarion and never saw the scars and follow-up scenes relating to them until well into Act II when Astarion wants to make a deal with Raphael to translate the scars, Raphael will reveal them to the entire group by stripping Astarion naked in front of everyone (with additional remarks designed to humiliate Astarion even further).

I haven't tested it since full release though, he keeps propositioning me before the party, lol

I have seen the non-bite confession (shameless plug that I have a video on that too 😂) but it doesn’t affect the dialogue options (currently - who knows if there’ll be an update to that of course!) I just thought it’d be interesting to see what differences there were.

How Astarion actually slipped and admitted that he can't see himself in the mirror. I mean, the fangs, the red eyes and the scars on his throat are a pretty big indication, but at the very latest there I'd say Tav should've caught on.

I diddd find the boar and also met the monster hunter in the swamp but other long rest scenes must’ve had priority so the bite kept getting pushed out. Things didn’t happen this way in my true playthrough, I just reloaded an old save and made sure to not long rest too much until it was party time to see the differences and get this footage 🥳
Thank you to this video making me realise I can long rest without using any supplies, so I can get camp scenes for story reasons 👀 Also damn this game is so impressive with how flexible the camp events are!!

Lol it's funny that you ask because I'm only just now learning that it's unusual to have him not reject you this early. There was another comment just a bit ago bringing this up so I went to check my save file. The approval is at Medium(23) and even if Tav is the one who suggests the fun, Astarion will be interested. I'm afraid I don't really know why, I thought the rejection vids I had seen were the result of actively making him disapprove.
@@FauxShi On my first run I got interested in him after the bite scene, but my character was a druid and I wanted to stay somewhat true to character. Although I let him feed on me after quite a bit of convincing, I pushed him off of me and then the next day said to him it was awful, and we'll never do it again. Choose a somewhat neutral option when asked if I trust him or not. Then I was paddling for his approval like crazy up until the goblin raid party, but I unfortunately also missed the Gur that was after him... never knew he was in the swamp. Approval was at 19, and he destroyed me when I was going for the "what's your idea of fun" options. :'DDD It actually hurt. Ouch. So I completely missed out on romance with him on that run. I think letting him bite, saying it might happen again and defending him in front of the others afterwards is crucial if anyone wants a chance with him. He's quite sensitive about being accepted for who he is and having his back no matter what. I learned that the hard way. :P Went for him full force on my second playthrough and it was so rewarding to see him slowly getting over his trauma of abuse with you (unless of course you choose to help turn him into Cazador reloaded). Awesome character, love him.
Awwww I’m sorry you missed out on the first one but I’m glad you got to see it all the next time around! I was pretty neutral towards romance options at the start of my first playthrough and just thought he’d be the best match for my character. He turned out to have such a beautiful story with so much depth. I definitely wasn’t ready for the adventure to end when the credits rolled 😢
Romancing him as a nice good aligned character is hard but not impossoble. You just have to be selective about when he's in your party, look up specific choices that trigger approval and disapproval (not just general stuff like some guides do, like an itemized list of choices), and be willing to either 1. Quicksave often to roll back any decision if it ends up giving disapproval, and/or 2. Be willing to take some disapproval for the sake of roleplaying (for example, in act 3 I gave the honest answers on the love test because it was in character for my Tav, because even though it was three disapproval points I had enough approval to withstand it, plus he joins you on the log even with the honest answers rather than walking away like some choices)
im playing a paladin and have somehow got away with being a nice himbo, punching him in the face for killing me and a bunch of other disapprovals. being dumb/taking chaotic choices does a lot of legwork, as well as giving him the thay book etc. slow tho - act 3 before i got to exceptional (it took barking at the dog trainer for the final points)
OK I have to ask... Have Lairan censored the game post release? I have all filters turned off, and this scene (and the Halsin one) are censored all to hell. I guess I’m not totally sure - I trimmed the scene down for this video since I was mostly showing the small change in dialogue options. Most other videos I’ve seen of the act 1 romance all match what I see in game for whatever that’s worth 😅 Thank you again though ❤️
U.S. player here. I got this scene yesterday, and my Tav was as naked as the day she was born in the “morning after” scene. (Apart from some hilariously placed leaves in the overhead shot, and awkward thigh positioning in other shots.) Astarion was wearing trousers when Tav woke up. A trifle incongruous, but understandable-it’s hard to pay attention to his scars when his naked butt is front and center.
@@mrjones2721 I was surprised they even left the leaves in considering the glorious eyeful you get in later scenes lol. I think the "modesty" pasties and shortened romance cutscenes might have been a bug for me after all. I made sure all my patches and hot fixes were up to date (hadn't checked for a few days, assuming Steam would auto update) and now the settings seem to have caught up... enthusiastically ( *cough-morning-after-with-the-emperor-cough* )👀👀😂😂😂😂 I'm curious to see how a bunch of scenes play out on my second playthrough, because I'm getting a lot more party banter and other ambient environmental triggers since the last patch as well. It just keeps getting better 😄
How does this even happen though? He always bites me after like my second or third long rest. Do you just have to immediately go to the goblin camp, kill everyone, then go back to the grove before doing a long rest?
This was just speeding through the main story to get to the party before the bite in camp. The conversation where he just tells you doesn’t affect the bite/dialogue or progress his main story so you can have that conversation, this scene, and the bite all in one playthrough! Though I don’t recommend speeding through the story to get this version, it’s not very fun 😅

Well... I have a friend who didn't get into bg3 until it was released and didn't know Astarion was a vampire until the game started dropping very clear hints, so I guess that being a secret isn't *too* far-fetched, paired with the walking in the sun thing (or friendo just isn't very perceptive 😅)
I think the fact that he can do things like walk around unharmed in the sun and wade across rivers throws people way off, because technically it's POSSIBLE for a non-vampiric elf to look the way he does, just much less likely than straight-up being a vampire.
So... this is an odd detail but am I getting this right? During their first s*x scene, if you play as a female, Astarion picks you up and presses you against the tree, but as a male, he doesn't pick you up? (the screen just goes black shortly and suddenly your male char is pressed against the tree?)
No no I trimmed the scene down for this video. I was mostly trying to show any differences not so much the whole scene, but he does pick my character up. I think there’s always a pickup but it just depends on character size for who picks up who - sorry my editing added confusion!
I really want to know how i could have this scene... in my first party, Astarion has bitten my sexy hight elf bard the first time i used the camp XD...
lol he couldn’t resist! I will say that getting this scene does not make for a *fun* playthrough because you have to just rush right to killing the goblin leaders and it makes the story feel disjointed. If you do want it though just push the main story and don’t sleep! Playing Dark Urge helps to put other cutscenes in front of this one too so that might help to stop the first night bite.

Lol it's funny that you ask because I'm only just now learning that it's unusual to have him not reject you this early. There was another comment just a bit ago bringing this up so I went to check my save file. The approval is at Medium(23) and even if Tav is the one who suggests the fun, Astarion will be interested. I'm afraid I don't really know why, I thought the rejection vids I had seen were the result of actively making him disapprove.
@@FauxShi On my first run I got interested in him after the bite scene, but my character was a druid and I wanted to stay somewhat true to character. Although I let him feed on me after quite a bit of convincing, I pushed him off of me and then the next day said to him it was awful, and we'll never do it again. Choose a somewhat neutral option when asked if I trust him or not.
Then I was paddling for his approval like crazy up until the goblin raid party, but I unfortunately also missed the Gur that was after him... never knew he was in the swamp. Approval was at 19, and he destroyed me when I was going for the "what's your idea of fun" options. :'DDD It actually hurt. Ouch. So I completely missed out on romance with him on that run.
I think letting him bite, saying it might happen again and defending him in front of the others afterwards is crucial if anyone wants a chance with him. He's quite sensitive about being accepted for who he is and having his back no matter what. I learned that the hard way. :P Went for him full force on my second playthrough and it was so rewarding to see him slowly getting over his trauma of abuse with you (unless of course you choose to help turn him into Cazador reloaded). Awesome character, love him.
Awwww I’m sorry you missed out on the first one but I’m glad you got to see it all the next time around! I was pretty neutral towards romance options at the start of my first playthrough and just thought he’d be the best match for my character. He turned out to have such a beautiful story with so much depth. I definitely wasn’t ready for the adventure to end when the credits rolled 😢
Romancing him as a nice good aligned character is hard but not impossoble. You just have to be selective about when he's in your party, look up specific choices that trigger approval and disapproval (not just general stuff like some guides do, like an itemized list of choices), and be willing to either 1. Quicksave often to roll back any decision if it ends up giving disapproval, and/or 2. Be willing to take some disapproval for the sake of roleplaying (for example, in act 3 I gave the honest answers on the love test because it was in character for my Tav, because even though it was three disapproval points I had enough approval to withstand it, plus he joins you on the log even with the honest answers rather than walking away like some choices)
im playing a paladin and have somehow got away with being a nice himbo, punching him in the face for killing me and a bunch of other disapprovals. being dumb/taking chaotic choices does a lot of legwork, as well as giving him the thay book etc. slow tho - act 3 before i got to exceptional (it took barking at the dog trainer for the final points)
OK I have to ask... Have Lairan censored the game post release? I have all filters turned off, and this scene (and the Halsin one) are censored all to hell. I'm wondering if it's an Australia thing or a post full game release thing. I noticed Karlach isn't nearly as sweary as she used to be as well. 😢

I guess I’m not totally sure - I trimmed the scene down for this video since I was mostly showing the small change in dialogue options. Most other videos I’ve seen of the act 1 romance all match what I see in game for whatever that’s worth 😅 Thank you again though ❤️

U.S. player here. I got this scene yesterday, and my Tav was as naked as the day she was born in the “morning after” scene. (Apart from some hilariously placed leaves in the overhead shot, and awkward thigh positioning in other shots.)
Astarion was wearing trousers when Tav woke up. A trifle incongruous, but understandable-it’s hard to pay attention to his scars when his naked butt is front and center.
@@mrjones2721 I was surprised they even left the leaves in considering the glorious eyeful you get in later scenes lol. I think the "modesty" pasties and shortened romance cutscenes might have been a bug for me after all. I made sure all my patches and hot fixes were up to date (hadn't checked for a few days, assuming Steam would auto update) and now the settings seem to have caught up... enthusiastically ( *cough-morning-after-with-the-emperor-cough* )👀👀😂😂😂😂
I'm curious to see how a bunch of scenes play out on my second playthrough, because I'm getting a lot more party banter and other ambient environmental triggers since the last patch as well. It just keeps getting better 😄

No matter what I do he always tries to bite my Tav very early so I always know he is a vampire. Idk maybe its my Tav blood 🤣
How does this even happen though? He always bites me after like my second or third long rest. Do you just have to immediately go to the goblin camp, kill everyone, then go back to the grove before doing a long rest?

You probably were! I believe the running theory is that it’s based on body sizes. The smaller of the two will be against the tree.

how do you get to this scene because he just straight up told me what he was.
This was just speeding through the main story to get to the party before the bite in camp. The conversation where he just tells you doesn’t affect the bite/dialogue or progress his main story so you can have that conversation, this scene, and the bite all in one playthrough! Though I don’t recommend speeding through the story to get this version, it’s not very fun 😅
How long has he been free at the time we meet him in the game?
He was scooped up into the same ship as us and that’s what got him away from Cazador so we meet him as early as his first day of freedom

Real question, if the “secret” he’s a vampire cause who didn’t know from looking at him?
Well... I have a friend who didn't get into bg3 until it was released and didn't know Astarion was a vampire until the game started dropping very clear hints, so I guess that being a secret isn't *too* far-fetched, paired with the walking in the sun thing (or friendo just isn't very perceptive 😅)
I think the fact that he can do things like walk around unharmed in the sun and wade across rivers throws people way off, because technically it's POSSIBLE for a non-vampiric elf to look the way he does, just much less likely than straight-up being a vampire.

So... this is an odd detail but am I getting this right? During their first s*x scene, if you play as a female, Astarion picks you up and presses you against the tree, but as a male, he doesn't pick you up? (the screen just goes black shortly and suddenly your male char is pressed against the tree?)
No no I trimmed the scene down for this video. I was mostly trying to show any differences not so much the whole scene, but he does pick my character up. I think there’s always a pickup but it just depends on character size for who picks up who - sorry my editing added confusion!
Depends if you are playing a slimmer vs a larger build for males. He'll pick up the slimmer one, and the larger one will pick him up.

lol he couldn’t resist! I will say that getting this scene does not make for a *fun* playthrough because you have to just rush right to killing the goblin leaders and it makes the story feel disjointed. If you do want it though just push the main story and don’t sleep! Playing Dark Urge helps to put other cutscenes in front of this one too so that might help to stop the first night bite.
