    I love your videos, very helpful and intelligent! Just wanted to correct spelling and pronunciation of “pronunciation “. As you see, without “o” in second syllable. Pronounced like “nun”. Thanks again so much!

      +freeGermanlessons Das ist wahr. Sie sind eine gute lehrerin. (I am trying to answer in German; please correct my mistakes). The German language is different from other languages. there are many combined words with suffixes like freundheit.
      heit,schaft,keit etc what is their logical combination ?

    I have only one question:
    Is there any way to make deference between long and short vowel sounds while reading or it comes just with practice?

    I don't see a different between e and ä. Is there a difference or can you pronounce these the same?

    • @Free-german-lessons-online
      @Free-german-lessons-online  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrFluffyNeko you are right!! In most words, there is no difference any more!
      Käse (cheese) = Kese
      Änderung (change) = Enderung!!

    Even though the vocabulary is incidental to this lesson on pronunciation, I like to have it written to remind myself at a glance. Here is the list (* means short vowel example):
    Abend - evening
    Ztal - number
    Staat - state
    *Stadt - city
    Vir - we
    ihr - you
    vier - four
    *er sieht - he sees
    Hose - trouser
    wohnen - to live
    boot - boat
    *hoffen - to hope
    *kommen - to come
    buchen - book
    *mutter - mother
    *lustig - funny
    lessen - to read (long e, then unstressed-short e)
    sehr - very
    Tee - tea
    *gern - gladly
    *bett - bed
    *helfen - help
    Bär - bear
    gähnen - yean
    käse - cheese
    *bitte - please (unstressed e)
    *Geschwister - sibling (unstressed e)

    Thanks for your lesson! But I have a question: Is the sound of 'i' similar to the sound of 'e'?

    • @darkseed2k9
      @darkseed2k9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In German, the letters E and I can each be pronounced in two ways, depending if they are short (before 2+ consonants) or long (before 1 or no consonant or before H). The long E and the long I sound a bit similar, but they are definitely different.
      It seems to me english speakers have more difficulty with the long E sound because they do not have it in their language. I suggest making an exercise with your mouth and trying to go slowly from the long I phonem ( eg vowel phonem in english word "bee") to the short E phonem (eg vowel phonem in english word "bet"). The long E phonem is between both. It is more "closed" than the short E.

    "r" sound is so hard !! anyone has tip for pronouncing "r" ? ..

    • @Free-german-lessons-online
      @Free-german-lessons-online  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CHANGHWI HAN üben, üben, üben (practice). I know, it's hard. Try the r at the front of your tongue or one, that sounds more like a ch at the back. Play around and have patience! If you learn an instrument, it takes you hours to practice :-)
