    Although I talk about Pond % specifically, most of the principles of what I am doing in the research/ uploading stage should be able to be transferred to any stock video site that you use!

    Firstly, great videos Jason! I'm subscribed 🙂 I have quick question: If you upload a video for editorial purpose do you have to specify this in the edit item section? I can’t see a tick box or anything on the page? Or do you just date the clip of your video title edit section and then POND 5 reviewers decide if your video clip is commercial or editorial? In shutterstock when you submit a video you tick if the video is for commercial or editorial? and I cant see this on POND 5? Thank you for your time.

    • @agreatalternative
      @agreatalternative  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As far as I’m aware there isn’t anywhere you can specify, and it’s totally up to the discretion of the Pond5 reviewer.
      I’ve had clips in the past that are very similar be chosen for both.
      Generally though if you have an issue with a clip you can contact the pond support and I’ve always found them pretty helpful!

    Hi Mate - Thanks so much for this video. It's been really useful. Quick question....if have drone shots or others that I am going to upload for stock that are 50fps...should I leave them as 50fps or put them on a 25fps timeline and export at 25fps clips before uploading ? And what do you do about file names t export ? Rename with something relevant to the clip or maybe an ascending rolling number system for all your clips?

    • @agreatalternative
      @agreatalternative  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Kevin!
      I generally export at 25fps mainly so that the stuff I shoot at 50fps or 100fps can be slowed down, as everything looks better in slow motion 😁
      Plus I shoot at 25fps as well, so it’s easier to just put everything in one timeline.
      I think you can upload to pond 5 at 50fps but don’t quote me on that.
      I’d say just do what’s best for the clip, if it looks better to slow down then do that but if not don’t worry.
      In regards to naming clips yes I come up with and overall title for that type of clip (normally relating to a template or collection I’ve made on pond 5) then give ascending numbers (e.g bushcraft 1, bushcraft 2 etc).
      That’s only for the spreadsheet and the original exports, once I upload them to pond5 I change each name individually (e.g “bushcraft expert lights fire using hand drill in woodland landscape”)
      Hope that helps!

    I've been uploading to Pond5 for a while but only making a huge effort since last year. Over 1100 videos up now. I started to get sales the last quarter of 2022 but January 2023 has been completely dry. So it's very demotivating. I'm also changing my workflow a little based on recent Pond5 forum posts regarding various codecs and fps options. I'm a long-term stock image producer elsewhere but that's almost completely died so that's why I'm concentrating on video.

    • @frederikdyreborgmelhede

      I would encourage you to keep going. I have found it generally takes 6 months to a year for a clip to start selling. Obviously some never sell while others will sell 10 or even 20 times.
      I have had 200 clips up on Pond5 since 2017 and they have sold quite steadily year after year, but they did not sell from the get go.
      Last March I decided to expand my portfolio and I am now approaching 3000 clips. My earnings so far have only tripled so I can't say there is an immediate effect. I assume a given clip needs time to pick up steam in the search results. Hope this helps!

    • @agreatalternative
      @agreatalternative  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’d second what Frederick said, don’t give up, but at the same time be realistic.
      I just checked what I’ve made and in 2021 it was around £600 and 2022 it was around £1050 with around 2000 clips, so it’s rising but very slowly.
      Plus I have had the same issue where some clips sell and others don’t and I can’t figure out why.
      I’m going to experiment with raising my prices as well to see if that helps as I was worried that if I put my prices too high clips wouldn’t sell full stop.
      What other sites do you upload too?
      I think you’re bang on with focusing on video, I certainly think that’s where you at least stand a chance in making some money.
      Keep on creating but do it for you first! 👊

    • @explorewithgeoff
      @explorewithgeoff ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@frederikdyreborgmelhede Thanks for your reply and advice Frederik. I had about 30 clips available since 2018 when I joined but I never did more as I didn't have the right equipment to make good content. That's now changed though and I've been increasing my portfolio for most of last year. What's frustrating is that sales did start to appear several months in a row, but now they've stopped. I'll keep trying anyway and getting more variety.

    • @agreatalternative
      @agreatalternative  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think if you’re able to upload consistently as well that may help, overall though I think it’s mainly about number of clips along with well shot footage.

    • @frederikdyreborgmelhede
      @frederikdyreborgmelhede ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think consistency could have an impact too.
      Some people claim Pond5 has an algorithm that favours creators uploading regularly. I'm not so sure about this since I pretty much forgot about my account for 4 years and still made regular sales.
      However, now I try to always have clips pending review just to be on the safe side of things. We'll see how it goes ...

      @@agreatalternative I´m a BlackBox contributor since 2018 and have been very lazy. But to me it is not the money. I have only 160 clips online and have so far made 16 sales...but it´s the pure joy of getting those e-mails "you have new blackbox earnings". The satisfaction of knowing that somebody somewhere actually liked my work so much that they were willing to pay for it, that is a feeling I do NOT get in my day-time job. And that is what it is all about - enjoying the process! And yes, about Pond5 - the 60% they offer their exclusive contributors maybe will compensate for only selling on one platform compared to BlackBox maybe 5-6, who knows?

      No I don’t think it’s too much, but I would recommend doing your research for other similar clips - what’s the quality of them and what price are they at?
      Depending on the answer to that and the quality of your own clip can help I glue be the price.
