Just watched this National Theatre live recording at our local UK Vue Cinema. Absolutely brilliant. I cried laughing most of the way through it. James Corden is superb. The catering scene is the funniest thing ever! Well done to the whole cast.
That was actually scripted, if you ever see the script you can see that both the hummus bit and the bit with christine patterson are written into it, which just shows how great all of the actors are to fool the audience into thinking they were genuine audience members and that james was acting his reactions
at what one point he asks the audience for a sandwhich, and when i was watching it a guy in the front row held up a sandwhich and shouted out 'here you go mate'.
I saw The National Theatre Film with James Corden in 2011 & so very, very happily saw LIVE in N.Y. I so very much wish National Theatre would release the film on DVD.
Haha It was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen. The fact that he was even laughing and couldn't control himself was amazing and that look on the guy with only 1 line had on his face. Priceless.
Aren't nearly _all_ plays essentially versions of earlier plays? I seem to recall the Greeks held that there were only seven types of story (and all of those could be reduced to Comedy and/or Tragedy - such being the human condition) and all stories are thus variations of these.
my high school is doing this play, and it’s show week this coming week! i’m so excited! we’ve been working super hard and it’s just such a fun show!! (im in lighting crew, but a lot of my friends are in the cast)
Just saw this a few days ago at The Music Box on 45th St. James Corden is brilliant! I haven't laughed that much since Noises Off! You must see this play!
@@truemedia2682 not sure what you're trying to get at but i watched it at the Cineworld cinema Newcastle last night as it was being broadcast live from the National Theatre
Well you won't be going to any theatres to see this any time soon. But have no fear, the current UK production are going to stream it in a free Thursday night broadcast as part of a weekly series making stage productions available to people in their homes. While big business is looking to get what they can from this crisis the arts are showing the way in addressing our social and cultural needs.
I just found out that the hummus sandwich was originally unscripted, but they liked it so much, they scripted it. So when you saw it might have been the first time they did it :)
I don't type for a living either mate, I just do things the right way. Go nowhere in life typing life that, grammer all over the place. And I think you just don't understand the difference between 'you're' and 'your'. Trying to help you out.
Am I the only one who found the crass moments cringe worthy? How can a statement 'you raped 10 year old boys at school' be funny. It's horrific yet the audience laughed! Not funny, any way you like to coat it.
I know, right? I don't get all the fuss over this; it's frankly rather unfunny. Most of the humour is very unsophisticated and is basically Charlie Chaplin-style slapstick.
James Corden needs to come back to Broadway or West End with this. Saw on Broadway with him just before it ended - best thing I've ever seen.
I saw it too. Never laughed so hard.
I know it's kinda off topic but do anyone know a good place to stream newly released movies online?
@Moshe Leland I use Flixzone. You can find it on google =)
@King Rowan yup, been watching on flixzone for since april myself :)
@King Rowan thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it !
I miss James acting “properly” instead of as campy versions of himself. He’s a strong farcical comedy performer.

SO happy that he won a tony for this, his acceptance speech was heart wrenching
That awkward moment when someone in the crowd has a hummus sandwhich and James doesnt know what to do

I wish I could have seen this while it was in the states. I love James Cordon!
I'm playing Francis Henshall for my acting exam next week and i'm sh*tting bricks watching what I have to live up to xD
Five years later, how did you do? XD
saw this at a repeat reviewing of the national theatre live recording................so glad i finally managed to see this show. absolutely amazing!
I knew James had theater kid genes in his blood...his musical skills and his singing are prove of this alone.
Is there anywhere mentioned that this show is based on the play Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni written in the 18th century?
At the beginning of act II Francis has a monolog explaining that the show is based on 'Servant of Two Masters'
Thanks a lot, Sarah!

I am only two hours from Times Square. When James Corden will be on Broadway ,I'll be there to enjoy.

Trailer poorly reflects the excellence of the live show imo. Love Corden, saw him perform, amazing.
I don't know, I was watching this and thinking how brilliant James Corden is based on this video. I never fully appreciated him from his Late Show.
feeling abit like james in this at the moment just been offered a second job lol
i ended up leaving lol
Just saw this a few days ago at The Music Box on 45th St. James Corden is brilliant! I haven't laughed that much since Noises Off! You must see this play!
Is there anywhere to see the full length version of this now?
National Theatre youtube
Managed to catch this show in New York. Freaking hilarious, probably the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life.
he lost so much weight and looks baby like compared to the late late shows james corden
Wachovia some Gavin and Stacey clips he's even younger or even earlier as Jeremy in teachers in 2002
Watch*
He has lost a lot of weight! Props to him!
Eric Buchheim

@@truemedia2682 not sure what you're trying to get at but i watched it at the Cineworld cinema Newcastle last night as it was being broadcast live from the National Theatre
I was at that performance!!! I'm still laughing!
Fezzes are cool.... Did they mean to do that?
I think the doctor may have stolen his fez.

Drama online
Hey! It's got the guy from Green Wing! :D
i saw this show at the haymarket theatre with owain arthur as james cordons character, it was laugh out loud hilarious
I get massive Frank Spencer vibes from this.
One of the theatres I audition at is doing this, I love it!
American Rebel Princess
This was brilliant! we went to see it for our A level coursework.
you do realise it was open in london before it went to broadway and is still runnumg in london. It's also on tour in the uk aswell.

It's the guy from the BT adverts!
And Big School by David Walliams!
Like my favourite west end show ever!
I was there too!! They don't do that every night do they? Cause it's really weird we were all there.... it was SO good though!
Saw this today, I saw the one with Rufus Hound in, AMAZING!!!
What scene is that "Iv got two jobs..." in??????
the best cast >
Oliver Chris is my role model.
They do the hummus sandwich in every performance - I went today and they did the same thing :)
Is it me or is one of those guys from the BT Infinity advert?
I know - but I think the bit with the suitcase was genuinely audience members :)
was this character also chris farley's inspiration? there are a lot of similarities soooo funny!
I just found out that the hummus sandwich was originally unscripted, but they liked it so much, they scripted it. So when you saw it might have been the first time they did it :)
Also, if anyone is thinking about seeing it, take it from me, it's well worth it.
Alright...... Craig.... Alf..... A Fez...
Clearly someone out there is watching out for us Whovians.
James Corden - very talented but plays the same part all the time.... something sexy about him
Well he is a character actor
not the same in Into the Woods
lol "alfie", stormageddon xD
I know! He'd make The Doctor proud.
*brilliant*
my brother and mother saw this last night, IM ANGRY
Ok this needs to come to the uk where it belongs
my fave part is @2:20
You're* It's very slapstic, probably be big in Eastern Europe
Holy shit, please tell me there's a bootleg of this
British Farley!
Oh my god. It's Craig!
Awww that's kinda sad. :P But it was really funny!!
Aww I wanna c it!!
Hi i must be ruh-tardud cuz i laffed my ass oft!
Just went to see it in London, left after half an hour, what a load of tosh
wow hes british haha funny
Looks like a really average tv comedy, seems to be getting all this praise just because it's theatre.
Hi
I much prefer Corden's understudy.
FEZ!
And wearing a fez!!!
hands up if family guy brought you here

you must lost it then since you claim to be simple in your name?
XXL Smithy
i dunno. i think i prefer the other cast.

Did you see it? It was incredibly funny. This clip does it no justice.
lol so age inapropriet!
LOL I highly doubt that. As if Johnny Depp has time to be flaming random youtube videos. Or have such atrocious grammer.
Rather than develop character this guy just stole physical style from Norman Wisdom, Frankie Howard and Lee Evans.
Good lord, this looks painful to watch.
This looks utterly abysmal.
