Oh Ryan!! Ever so thankful for your channel and this particular one. This comment may be long but it's a true testimony of the truth of what you have just spoken!! I'm 57 and my nails have been this way since my mid-twenties. And they were spoon like as well. Having asked many, and I am disabled, so when I say many, I assure you it's many. And I was brushed off , or told it's nothing to worry about. 5 years ago I started getting my nails done because I simply could not stand to look at my nails. After 3 years of that and lack of money I had to stop. Ok let's get to the important stuff. I have suffered with Celiac Disease, fibromyalgia, migraines, and CRPS. Which is a severe nerve, muscle and pain syndrome that was a result from surgeries on my elbows and hands. May I add from 25-about 2 mths.ago extreme STRESS!! Ryan is 100% right about gut health and eating animal products!! After years of severe diarrhea, gas, bloating I went gluten free which helped a great deal but still the pain and gut issues remained. I started eating a carnivore diet for one. Secondly, I just want out and bought B-12 which is sublingual. It dissolves under your tongue. Third, I am adding the apple cider vinegar to my diet. Since going carnivore over 2 months and 3 weeks ( animal products, no sugar, no carbs) would you like to know the results? CD reversed, no diarrhea, bloating, no migraines, the inflammation is reduced and my nails are beginning to change. God gets all the Glory for this!! As far as the Stress in my life.. well that meant that my daughter whom I still love and my 2 granddaughters, the oldest, 7 who spent every weekend with me since she was 3 except for a few here and there and went to church with me. And the little soon to be 3 is joy and sunshine, and there's one on the way.. Had to be removed from my life. Don't feel sad. It was the hand of God. All and I mean all stress has been removed from my life. It has to be no contact. As for you Ryan, your information is so on point and I pray that those listening will " hear" what you say and apply it to their lives. Oh I just had my blood work reviewed yesterday with my Dr. It was all well. My nails started getting vertical ridges about 2 years ago and because i've got emphysema i thought my lungs were packing in, i got so weak i could only walk a few feet and i'd be out of breath. Luckily, i had a random appointment with a nurse, she took 1 look at me from walking from the waiting room to her office , about 8ft away and i couldn't talk i was that out of breath. My skin was grey, and my ankles started swelling up about a week before, so she got a GP to see me there and then. I was ready to die and wanted it over with, but they wrote a letter for A&E to see me ASAP as my GP said it was most likely anaemia. He was bang on the money, my hemoglobin was the lowest any A&E DR had seen in anyone, it was 31 or 3.1 depending on which scale you use where it should be 170-180 or 17.0-18.0. The DR who saw me said i was lucky to be alive as the swelling of my ankles was down to heart failure. so they rushed me in to resus and asked me if i wanted a mid-line or a pic line, i was scared and panicking as a pic line runs up your arm into the main vein in your chest, and a mid-line is shorter, so i went for that. BIG MISTAKE as a mid-line is very hard to get blood from and used for putting drugs and blood into your body and they needed to take blood every hour or 2. but they managed on a few occasions and when they couldn't they used my artery in my wrist as my veins are very small from blood work i've had in the past which cause them to collapse. Anyway i was in hospital for 7 days had 4 bags of blood and 1 iron infusion. After the first few bags i felt much better and when i left i felt 20 again. If it wasn't for a random appointment, i would be dead. If anyone reading this has those symptoms got to your GP or A&E as it could save your life.

Thank you as I hv learnt so much from this video … a question? Drinking apple cider vinegar BEFORE food? Wont this make my stomach more acidic? Q2 - when best to take digestive enzymes ? Once a daily? Awaiting yr advice. Thank you
Before food is better to help acidify the stomach to help absorb the nutrients. (The stomach acid should naturally be between 1-3pH). I like to take my digestive enzymes in the morning on an empty stomach, and one more with the food.

Evening Primrose Oil shouldn't be used by anybody suffering from Epilepsy, as it is known to precipitate epileptic seizures. There are many peer reviewed scientific papers on the subject. Thanks very much for a great video, take care, David.
I have had vertical ridges for years. My thyroid tests are normal. But I’m certain the issue is more of an inability of my body to absorb the hormones. I have been under a lot of stress for most of my life. And it shows no signs of ending anytime soon. I am doing the enzymes, the apple cider vinegar and the supplements. My test did show too much B12. It’s so hard figuring out what exactly will trigger the right response from my body.
Try some black seed oil. But please address the stress. Your life and health literally depend on it. If you are dead what good are you to those you are stressing yourself out about?
Sometimes the test shows too much b12 not because you have too much and need to cut back, but because your body is not absorbing the b12 you are giving it.

Hello Ryan, Do you have scientific references for the malabsorption of iron and Vit B12? I was told the ridges were a natural part of aging despite having them since my 30s.
🤠Thank you for your explanations. Now, can I do something about it. Doctors say it comes with age. It's strange, I only have this problem on my left hand, and the left hand is the same age as the right.
I had radio iodine treatment on my over active thyroid which resulted in a under active thyroide, I have pernicious anemia so can't absorb B12 and I've always had problems with absorbing iron so all my nails are ridged and some spliting. Great info and ideas to help repair / fix the problem, thanks.
I have pernicious megaloblastic anaemia and get B12 injections every 8 weeks. I can't absorb supplements at all so the jabs are a lifesaver for me. It's familial on my mother's side. My grandfather used to eat raw calves liver 🤢 before cobalamin injections became available. Not everyone can be helped by nutritional supplements. Pernicious is described as highly injurious and even deadly if left untreated.

My thumb was crushed by a 1500 ton cold header in Rose City, Michigan back in 1973. When it grew back, my nail had the ridges and ever since. Getting hurt is so easy when you expect others to do their job.
I don't think the nerve endings have anything to do with this. Rather it is the capillaries that react to food intake. The nails require continuous flow of moisture for growth. Nail biting is a reaction to the itching of the nails drying out and happens shortly after consuming bad fat. To convince yourself, try a meal with extra butter added to the food. The nails will start to dry out within hours.
Butter is bad fat? My mom believed that and ended up with terrible dementia. The nerve fibers are supposed to be covered with a protective layer including saturated fat. The brain uses it too. I eat lots of butter and coconut oil, am in my late 40's, have 'high' cholesterol and just had my arteries checked. They are clear and good cholesterol is high. While there are several factors at play, I am concerned about the teaching to avoid saturated fat. It is an important piece of the puzzle, maybe especially when we are exposed to many nerve destroying chemicals. Recently it is being shared that Vitamin K can balance the bodies' calcium so it does not end up mixing with fats and lining the arteries.

Thank you for giving the cause and solution. My entire life I had been able to grow long, beautiful nails and for the last few years, they became brittle, flaked in layers and got those deep ridges. I asked my Dr and he just said it was signs of aging.
I have been drinking colligan and adding nutritional yeast to my daily salad prior to watching this video. I will work on the other suggestions. 💅
Its more random than anything. but check your vit D levels too.
Biotin hair and nail supplements fixed mine
I use also biotin but after observing my I'm very sensitive , Im always sad so I stopped taking but my hair grows
Dommage quill n'y ai pas de traduction en français. Cela paraît intéressant
Thank you for this wonderful information. I have lived with high levels of stress most of my life due to various situations which couldn't be avoided.
I am a poor eater as well. Eating just enough to survive. And I learned that I need to take care of myself
Im identical to you. Don’t eat but once a day and not good then. I am tired and have severe back problems so don’t feel good enough to make me anything to eat even when I’m very hungry. I also have high stress and thyroid disease!
Thank you as I suddenly got thick ridges and found my iron was low and my B12. I had transfusions, but they are still ridge so I will check my thyroid. I do have a lot of stress but take meds for this.
you might be having crohns disease
I had deep vertical ridges in my nails all my life. Turns out I had parathyroid disease my entire life and finally had my bad gland taken out at age 32. I've been calcium and vitamin D depraved and it took an endocrinologist to find my problems. Don't let any GP's try to convince you that you're making it up, find a different doctor.
Well, I take all that stuff and have blood checks each month and I still have ridges in my nails. I am going for the aging causes.
I literally just noticed lines on my nails and didnt even look for the video. I've been a vegan for 5 year's and kind of knew my body is lacking in a lot of minerals. Thanks for the tips 👍
If your vegan you also need mental health assistance
How long does it take to get rid of the vertical ridges?
Nails grow very slowly, so once the underlying issues in the body have been corrected, the nails should begin to grow out more healthily until they are fully grown at 6 months. But some people's grow faster than others.
Get lots of sleep. Nails grow mainly when you sleep.
And I lost 34 lbs. and I started the carnivore lifestyle ( I don't call it a diet) on Feb.6 right after severe pain after an endoscopy. Sorry for being so long. You can get your health back!! Peace and Blessings!🙏💖

If you are a praying man please pray that I can quit smoking. I cut down to half a pack per day and just got the nicotine patches from my Dr. the other day. Great video. Short and straighr to the point. Thank you.
I have begun to get the ridges, but I am not too worried as I am 76!
I have ridges on my nails. 2021 I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. Had blood test and then she looked at my nails for the ridges. It is very similar to Rheumatoid Arthritis and it affects your immune system.
SAME FOR ME MY DOCTOR TOLD TO GET MY NAIL VARNISH REMOVED, BECAUSE HE WAS UNABLE TO LOOK FOR RIDGES.
80% have vertical line nails. I have the vertical lines all ten fingernails since I was teenager and now 65.
I started taking digestive enzymes at work and home, my co-workers noticed I was eating less (because the food was working harder, I was digesting better) and they (my co-workers) started using digestive enzymes.

You are likely deficient in B1. That is why your body is not releasing digestive enzymes itself.

As always you gave us (watchers) a lot of information to observe and use. I'll need to watch the video again to check the names of some products i want to buy. 👍🏽👍🏽
I had this issue for years and then I started taking collagen tablets and eating more protein and fat…ridges just about completely gone. And since I donate blood my iron is always checked and it’s perfect.
Thanks, thats a good video! 100% informative!
Personally I developed deep ridges and small needlesize pits on my nails seemingly overnight. Much better now with exception of my left ring finger. Still has a deep ridge that breaks off bits easily.
Thank you for all the great information. 👍
What is the cause for lighter color in the shape of ark at the bottom of the nail? Is it a symptom of a certain defficiancy?
That’s entirely normal. Everyone should have that. I imagine that’s the ‘living’ part of the nail, where it grows from.
Thanks for the video. Now i know what the deal is with my left foot's big toe looking yellowish and hard when clipping.
Fungus. Baking soda helps. Everyday on wet toe.
When I was 13, I got the my finger nail ripped off in an accident, my left ring finger. It grew back with ridges, and has stayed that way. I have always thought it does, because of the actually serious injury. I broke my hand also
This is a lovely and informative video, thank you. Just one small thing. They are not called 'cue tips' they are called 'Q tips' and I dont know why! But in UK we usually just call them 'cotton buds'!!
In the UK, they used to be known as (& I still call them) Q Tips though, as that was the brand I think 😊
I had gastric bypass 16 years ago. I have the expected malabsorption and have supplemented heavily ever since. I have trouble absorbing biotin in particular so hair and nails are weak. I take slow release ferritin and b12 daily. I don't eat much red meat, but try to eat salmon and eggs. I'm going to add nutritional yeast.
You would probably love vitamin patches! PatchMD and PatchAid are the best ones I've tried.
Million thanks for your efforts.
Thank you for information 🙏I had been suffering all those symptoms and I have suffering with GBS syndrome for me too late for knowing this anyways I want to know many other vitamin supplements I need to take so thank you so much 🙏
When drinking apple cider vinegar be sure to wait an hour before you eat so that the stomach can build up enough digestive acids to break down food. This is true with all citrus as well.

I have GERDS and IBS.. I was on a bunch of medications, but the side effects from them were horrible. I got on a CBD/THC mixture, and my tummy problems disappeared.

Great video!
But, chlorela does not have b12. There is no plant source for B12
Chlorella is not technically a plant, it is an algae and it forms it's own B12.
B12, zinc and Q10. In a couple of weeks i had completely different nails.
Noticed I had bad ridges on my nails recently. Started supplementing with iodine and adding kelp to my diet and the ridges are slowly staring to smooth out. Always felt I tended to hypothyroidism, but got wishy-washy answers from doctors when tested.
Awesome information , as usual.

Hello, Thank You For Showing, Explaining. It is interesting. I am impressed.
Evening Primrose Oil shouldn't be used by anybody suffering from Epilepsy, as it is known to precipitate epileptic seizures. There are many peer reviewed scientific papers on the subject.
Thanks very much for a great video, take care, David.
Thank you so much, Ryan. 🙏👏🏻🌹
Tablespoon of organic virgin olive oil daily. Garlic and onion a few times a week. Coconut oil, Raspberry or Apricot oil on nails.

I am 35 and it is getting worse over the past 5 years. I have IBD. I feel like iron+b12 are an issue from that so this makes sense.
I’ve always had very prominent ridges on my fingers and extreme ridges on my toenails ever sense I was a kid
Very absolutely right information Dr
Hello Ryan, Do you have scientific references for the malabsorption of iron and Vit B12? I was told the ridges were a natural part of aging despite having them since my 30s.
I have pronounced ridges on my nails. I also have known B12 deficiency due to absorption problems in the small intestine.

When I was young doctors did used to look at your nails, and in your eyes, to diagnose most things.
What about fingernails becoming soft/flexible?
Take Biotin an B12
I agree about the biotin - it took two months of no results and then suddenly my nails were super strong and hard and have been ever since!
Most of these reasons plus had appendicitis back at the end of the year. Leading up to surgery nails flaked and split. 4 months later and nail tech resurfaced nails no more problems
Thank you for clarifying about the small ridges normalcy 🤣
My friend has big bumps on the nails . It is terrible .the Dr don't know why. Thanks 🙏👍

I got ridges in my nail but I have high iron and b12 (over limit) does that mean im not absorbing them? Thats why they in my blood ?
Sounds like an iron utilisation problem, could be deficiency in copper, zinc, Vitamin A, other B vitamins etc.
While I have no known health problems, which that it self can effect nail condition
I've had a lot of success in CONSISTENTLY taking food grade diatomaceous earth...about a tablespoon mixed with water + table spoon of apple cider vinegar
I also take about tablespoon twice of powered gelatin mixed with water
It can be bland tasting however it's taste or lack of is not the point, it's the effectiveness
Saw improvement in skin hair joint and nails
It takes a while to start to show nails grow faster/ hair growth faster
Hopefully you are living a progressive healthy life style already

Also notice if you are becoming allergic to something you eat. After 60 years, I realized that eggs were a problem and after 8 months my previously weak nails are straight and strong.
Not even a minute into this video and I'm like "well fudge"
Ive white spots deep ridges and extremely brittle nails... Then you add all my health problems on top of my nails condition it all makes sense...
Guess i need to get over my fear and find a doctor... Last dictor misdiagnosed me with anxiety and told me to get on meds to solve my massive weight loss issue... Turns out i almost had cancer, i had an abundance of cells that could of turned cancerous and nothing the new doctor did got rid of them and it resulted in surgery... But am still having issues just not as bad .. i kept saying and still say that it seems like my body is not absorbing the nitrients it needs...
This video seems to confirm that suspicion 😵💫

My nails were extremely ridged and splitting down the centre, opening back in layers and very sore. My doctor had no idea what was causing it. I had to pay for that visit. It’s too easy to tell us to go to the doctor. They are not taught about nutrition.
