THIS HELPED ME WHEN ALL THE STEPS DIDN'T WORK I followed all the steps and was unable to get my Word file fixed. BUT, I found out that it didn't work because of the type of word file it was. It was an opendokument type. I was using OneDrive, so I could recover any previous saves of the file. And guess what, it worked! But make sure to back up and or email yourself any new or changed files since your word file was corrupted. Because it wipes out EVERYTHING that has been altered after the previous iteration you want to return to. For example today is the 15 of may, and the latest save of my corrupted file is the 11 of may. So I decided to recover the second last save of my corrupted file that was created on the 10th of may. By recovering that iteration of the file, OneDrive has to wipe out any files created after that or file changes. So my report I finished today had to be saved somewhere else while I was doing this recovery. Hope this helps! Remember to regularly back up your files my friend!
Thank you very much, Sir. The fourth method worked for me. The corrupted file opened in Wordpad. The important file that I worked for these four hours suddenly got corrupted. This video saved my time again typing and editing in MS Word.

I dunno what just happened but a malware was fixed thanks to the in-built recovery command. it was a corrupt and none of the methods is a primary resort to fix malwares. all of the steps shown here are usually the second step but they work to some extent. nice video!

Really a good video for me. I actually lost my data then I recovered by Stellar Data Recovery for windows. This software recovered my all files from the deleted folder. It is easy to use and recover. But my 3-word files are not opening. I will try all this method to open. Thanks
Thank you this has worked for me, links from word working again. I used; 1. open word document, 2. go to file scroll down, 3. select options, 4. Trust centre 5. open, Trust Center Settings 6 click on protected view. Clicked those 3 boxed that were ticked. Working fine now.

After reading about it in the different forums, watching about it in You Tube, and trying all opinions and demos, etc. the only thing that worked for me I found it by accidental experimentation. I have a Mac Book Pro so I do not know if my approach would work on Windows computers. I went to applications, went to MS Word icon and clicked on Control, selected 'Get Info' from the drop down menu, scrolled down to 'Share and Permissions', for whatever reason I was not appearing as having any privileges, I clicked on the + sign, selected myself as an user, gave me 'read and write' privileges, and to make sure, I went to history cleared the Cache, re-started the computer, and Ditto! I can open again all my MS Word Docs.
If you get the 3rd error, it means that the file was created in O365 and anything from 2013 will not open it. You will need to use 2016 to open it and re-save it for it to work. There seems to be no fix for this from MS, no patch, nothing, just upgrade to 2016 or O365. **The link to "fix it" is a paid link, something they don't tell you until after you upload your document and give them your e-mail address.

I'm not able to recover back my MS Word files even after following your comments. I used a software called Kernal, but also can't recover back the contents of the files. My Word files got corrupted a year ago after 2 times of windows reformat. So is there any other solution to this? I'm using a screen reader as I'm blind, so I need the keyboard commands.
