It's really fascinating to see this, especially with the news reports. I mostly grew up in Woodland, before the mall was built in the early '80s. Downtown was treeless and a bit unforgiving be that's where the retail was. Jean shops, the State Theater, work clothes for all the farmworkers, restaurants, a hardware store, an ice cream parlor, toy store, and a few bars. Woodland originally had a streetcar and the old town was built before cars so it was pretty bike able as a kid.
When the mall opened, it took shoppers and filmgoers away from downtown and it slumped until the town revitalized it, adding trees, changing parking and lights, etc. Honestly, now Downtown is pretty nice with a great coffee shop, a few boutiques and some good restaurant, but that's all I go there for. The mall was never crazy packed, but I remember some days when it was pretty busy in the 90s.
Then they opened the Costco and large retail over on the other side of town near I-5 with Target, Best Buy, etc. and that's where all the real shopping happens now. Well, that, and online, which also helped kill the mall. There's an Amazon Warehouse not far from here, and if I place an order by noon, I'll often get it by 5. Crazy fast.

This was my childhood mall in the 2000s. I have a lot of great memories here but I stopped going after my family and I moved away from woodland. In 2023 I did the same as you and visited it only to see quite literally everything closed up save the nail shop next to JCPenney. It was a very difficult walk to make knowing everything I was seeing would never go back to the way it was. Thank you for posting this on TH-cam 🙏🏼

Kinda sad to see. I remember when we were able to 🚬 inside. The kid area wasn't always there. The holidays were busy times. Lots of fun memories. The mall opened way before 1989 as I had moved to Woodland Summer of 87.

@@spidy69 interesting, I went off of all the information I can find, there’s a lot out there for many of the malls I cover making for more engaging commentary. But this one was very dry, thank you for the information I love learning new things about the malls I cover and hearing peoples stories
