  • Compiled here in one colorful video are all the species we have observed on the Panama Fruit Feeder Cam. Each of the 77 species are displayed briefly along with their names. You'll note that some species are harder to spot than others, as their visits occurred in the vegetation beyond or above the feeder. For those harder to spot species, feel free to pause the video and use the timestamps below to locate the species of interest again should one evade you. In addition to this you will find that a great companion to this compilation is the All About Birds Panama Fruit Feeder webpage, found here: www.allaboutbirds.org/cams/pa... Each species is pictured in full color with links to more images and some natural history information.
For information on this or other species visit The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s eBird website: ebird.org/home

    About the Site
The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is located on the grounds of the Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón, Panama. This site is just over 2,000 ft above sea level in the low mountains of Cerro Gaital, with a mild springtime climate year-round. A small stream called Rio Guayabo runs past the feeders in the background, and the lush landscaping of the Canopy Lodge grounds grade into the forested slopes around them. The feeding table is around 40 feet from the main lodge, and is one of several feeders provisioned throughout the day so that guests to the lodge are greeted to spectacular views of many of the common birds found in this ecosystem.
    About the Canopy Lodge
The Canopy Lodge is a full service lodge specializing in nature tourism with a focus on birds. It is about 60 miles west of Panama City in the picturesque village of El Valle de Antón, right in the center of the gigantic crater of an extinct volcano. This is the largest inhabited crater in the Western Hemisphere and second only to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It is surrounded by the Cerro Gaital Natural Monument.
Canopy Lodge is one of a series of three ecotourism ventures developed by the Canopy Family. The first, Canopy Tower, involved transforming a former U.S. radar station overlooking the Panama Canal in Soberanía National Park into a unique birding lodge embedded in the canopy of the surrounding forest. Their newest property, Canopy Camp, offers a taste of some of the wildest lowland rainforest in Panama in the Darién region.

My wife and I will be in Panama in a couple of months on a tour. I'll ask about this location, as we will be driven on a bus from Panama City across to the David / Volcan / Boquete areas. Hopefully we can stop if it isn't too far off the route.
I have a question about the bird at 4:03. To me it looked like a hummingbird (I'm just learning), but the video lists it as a Crowned Woodnymph. Are they a similar species of bird? If so, what are the differences between them?
Thank you very much for this video!

The Bay-breasted Warbler toward the end of the video appears to be a Blackpoll Warbler. Note the streaking on the breast, nape, and flanks. However the real giveaway is the pale feet which is a telltale field mark for Blackpoll. Bay-breasted is usually more pale greenish overall with paler flanks, more diffuse streaking on the flanks, and dark feet. There is also usually a hint of buff on the flanks, but this is not always present in female hatch year birds.

Thank you for sharing this stunning demonstration of the mind-blowing creativity and ingenuity of God, the Master Artist! Question: In the final clip with the Baltimore Oriole, what is the name of the bird on the far-right center with the striking aqua-blue plumage and the black mask? Is that another type of Tanager? I did not see that particular bird identified in this video. Maybe I missed it. Thanks!

"The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is located on the grounds of the Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón, Panama."
The video description section has a very good background description of the location and where these Lodges are located.
