your guitar is SO CLEAN, it looks like a re-pro instead of an original. congrats at finding such a mint example and thanks taking such good care of it.
Thank you very much. I think whoever owned it prior to me didn't play it very much and it was always put back in it's case in a closet or under a bed in a home where the temps and humidity were just right to keep it pristine.
@@Damianblf to my considerble embarrassment, I own 2 near mint guitars one ~35 years old that I have had for about 33 years, the other ~57 years old that I have owned for 35 years, but I am the guy who does not play them very much. on the plus side, I have been a great caretake of them.
I too have a 1957 Gibson ES125 I bought it from my brothers father in law for $1000 with original case, its freaking insane how nice it sounds, plays and looks. He originally wanted $1800 and I told him I could buy a really nice brand new guitar for that much money and didn't buy it but about a year or so later he came back with the $1000 and I jumped on it. Now I've had it awhile and have played it a bunch I really realize it was a deal at $1800. That Harmony is really sweet for sure and I would jump at a chance to own one like it.
Yeah, killed me to pull the p90 out of it, but the CC soon helped me forget, and that genuine '58 p90 complete harness now lives on in my '58 Les Paul Jr reissue!
My first guitar was a used Harmony arch top acoustic guitar. Later I had a pickup added to it. The guitar had lots of tones to it. I was able to hear the tones and write songs. I miss it to this day.
Thank you for showing this guitar I've been trying to buy it for the longest time and I needed some information on it, glad to know there's somebody else out there that likes living in the past
I love the way you play the blues on that Harmony! I remember as a young man seeing a harmony in my comic books, but regret not saving up for one, it’s a great guitar.❤😂🎉😊
i had to keep watching this video about this guitar thanks for putting the research and time and effort into giving us the facts im gonna try and get the harmony book as ive got six harmonies altogether all i know is i enjoy playin them thanks again damian all the best
Awesome video. I have the 1955 Silvertone version of the Espanada with the Harmometal binding - The exact same guitar Vince Lee is playing on the back of the Harmony book (great book). I even have the original chipboard case that was offered with the guitar in the Sears catalog. 1955 was the first year of production for the Espanada and they didn't have truss rods but amazingly that neck may the be the most rock solid of any guitar I own. Like you I LOVE the P13 pickups. Nothing else sounds like them. They have a vintage, period-specific jump blues / rockabilly sound that can't be matched by any other pickups.
There is a guy named Hannes Melberg in Stockholm--his bands rock, and he plays one of these. And you are right. The perfect jump blues guitar. Absolutely nail the tone and feel.
So sweet that just has the sound! Flatwounds make it and Dadarrio chromes get it right! *if you like xtra lite 9-42 buy the chromes 12 and add a 9 on top and push it. Focus on the stuff you love spend your mind on that and thanks for the Harmony!
Had the black Silvertone version daughter lent it...and 😢never saw again. Still have a Harmony Patrician H1414 and an H74 w original Bigsby great rockabilly guitar!
Wohoo! Great video Damian, thanks for sharing. So good to see Vince playing beautifully on one of his many lovely Harmony guitars. Well done for putting together such a brilliant video & resource! Great stuff & look forward to checking out more videos.
Love the Harmonys! I have a Silvertone 1427- it's definitely the sound. I put Curt Novak P-13s in a Casino- pretty much nails the sound in as well. We have a mutual friend- Hugh in Tn, maybe we can meet on one of your trips to the Smokies- thanks for the lessons! Bill
Hey Damian, Congratulations on your latest purchase. I am not saying I am jealous of your TOP 3 guitars, because you deserve them more than most guitar owners. I would also congratulate your guitars for purchasing YOU. This video format is interesting: not a lesson, but a collaboration and some history. Damian, could you take some time to make some beginner JAZZ courses? I still have your DVD's, but I am waiting for your next work of pedagogical art! I would throw my money at you. Take care, buddy. Regards from Belgium. You know... Django's birthplace...
Lovely guitar with great tone, Damian. You'll be an excellent custodian and i bet it's got some history. Can I request a video on your collection sometime? I've seen some amazing guitars in your videos, from Gretsch, Gibson, Guild, epiphone and more. Share them with us! All the best and keep up the good work!
There was a single pick up H-60 later made as the H-61 with the same P-13 pick up. I bought one for not a lot on eBay last year and it sounds amazing. It was sold as the Silvertone 1352 by Sears in 1956 and it has a steel truss rod- the un-adjustable type. Interestingly, it is made of all solid wood- and sounds great as an acoustic archtop. My H-62 has no truss rod of any kind in its neck and is laminated wood construction and ideally, although it plays, it could use some help from an expert. Unlike the H-61 it has no date stamp inside.
That Harmony's got vibe to spare for sure Damian. I mainly go for my Gibby ES 137-1/2 (a '58 125 that I swapped out for a CC pickups Charlie Christian 150 - do the math :-D '61 Gretsch Chet Country Gent cutaway or new Gretsch 5422 w the Butts reissue Ftrons, but recently grabbed a new Harmony Jupiter that's a killer build. Now you've got me searchin' AGAIN :-D
Hi Damian, thanks for all your positivity, encouragement and advice . I have a question. Do you know anything about the Harmony Meteor ? The one I’ve been offered is a 1961, thin line single cutaway, bolt on neck, 2 gold foil pickups. I am thinking about it as I have two full bodied archtops already a 66 gretsch 6118 and a ‘59 hofner president. The other choice I have is a H65 stripped body and neck no hardware and needing a reset. Was the Meteor a quality instrument ? Ta .
Thank you so much. Glad you're enjoying the videos. I own a Rocket and I think both the Rocket and the Meteor are fun and enjoyable guitars. I really like the sound of them. I'd be proud to own a Meteor :)
Hey Damian! Thank you for the detailed presentation of a really interesting and, at least here in Europe, rare guitar. she sounds really great! However, it would be good to know which amp you and your friend from the UK played with...
The thing about these Big mamas is : 1/ a wider neck than anything else in the jungle of electric 2/ the C neck are big as a tree but the models without tussrod are ever bigger 3/ the pickups are so bassy and breakup so quick that they also give a impressive result when you use them out of phase (like in the part II of vince where the middle position is out of phase for 100% sure). 4/ then there is the armometal models with the crazy aluminum edges... Woow.
By the way, I have a H1310 (same body shape) but fully acoustic massive table, back and sides ... no pickup of course but Woow incredible sounding guitar.
While these guitars do have authentic tones, so would cheap gear made in any era encapsulate the sound of that era except for one factor. Music stardom. Rock stars of of subsequent eras had money, management financing, and talented recording engineers that fitted them into 5 star gear. That didn't happen so much in the Rockabilly era. So, musicians played what they could afford.
Surprising... I thought for sure it was your little Supro! Just goes to show you, you can get tone out of almost anything... I would not have thought the Deville could have gotten that "old school" tone! @@Damianblf
I have a Silverton H65, it is the black version of the H62, but it has Silvertone on the headstock, not Espanada, look them up, there's info on the net on these guitars. And, for another example of great H62 tone, check out this video of Kid Ramos: th-cam.com/video/BohP-HJ5wdI/w-d-xo.html
