I seen a video where someone fold paper towel around a butterfly, dampens it, puts it in the fridge for a couple days, and then gently unfolded it and the butterfly (which is delicate) wasn't harmed at all. Looked perfect
Do you need to dry out the inside of the beetle 🪲 if u were wanting to put them in resin to preserve them? How would you go about this? Do you have a video?
@@missymihlfread8832 this has not been my experience, sometimes there are tiny tears in the membrane from the dehydrating process and the wings can turn translucent when they come in contact with water -that dries out eventually but it absorbs resin too
for butterflies you should avoid direct contact with water or moisture. You can place your insect on a mesh above wet/hot towels in your closed box. For bigger butterflies (also work with other insects), you can inject water inside them with a syringe.
+Diamond wolf lol, insect are dead and have been left to dry, being dry they wont easily bend into new positions, relaxing them is just softening them with moisture to allow them to be posed differently. did you watch the video?.. ps how old are you?
I thought I was going to learn how to calm down my living pet insects, but this will prove quite useful once they reach the taxidermy stage.
Lol
Vinegar prevents mold. So does salt.
Annie Laura thanks! I saw a video that mentioned another type of preservative that can't be bought for consumer use.
So just any type of salt? And in the crystal version that it comes in when bought from store? For the insects?
salt will rust your insect pins and leave white spots on the insects
To relax coleopteras, I put them directly in between warm and hot water for few minutes.
To avoid mold, I use alcohol (white) vinegar
How do you apply the vinegar?
@@rizzall509Mixed in the water probably (I do that with alcohol too)
I thought i was guna learn how to calm down our Velvet ant 🤣🤣 this was deff interesting tho and maybe i will give it a try!
glass cleaner prevents mold really well
background music horribly distracting
How do you open the elytra of a rhino beetle??? I'm afraid I might break the elytra. Help please!!!
Blue Beetle how’d it turn out?
With a massage
U r funny 😂
Adding that last paper towel on top is a bad idea if you are working with fragile (most) insects. Fine for the stout beetles seen here though.

Can I put them in boiling for 5 minutes? Seen someone do that would you recommend it if i need it done quickly
Where's the spreading video? I was excited for that one!
He sadly never made one, insect hunter has many videos including that though
lskjflksjkljkdsl thats a fucking giant insect idk what i'd do with my life if i ever came in contact with it
Jessica Ivy
obviously pin it
I'm an expert at these situations. Scream and run away. Works every time. Its called survival.
take him, and put him in your mouth. If you’re cold, they’re cold. 🥰

does this also work with butterflies? cause if you spray them with the tissue on top their wings will probably get damaged
Wings are water resistant

Was keen to see the spreading video but saw there isn't one...8 years later lol
someone recommend me how to soften the brittle insects for my scientific dissection project
Pooring them a warm bubble bath and putting old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy usually does the trick too😂
Nice Mumford & sons!
Hey, i was wondering if too old dead beetles can still be relaxed? Or they can be very brittle?
this is an old comment but yea should work as long as they are dry enough not to decompose/grow mold
Is it just water you use?
excuse me, how to relax a tiny lepidoptera insect? So I can take a picture of their wings
where can i buy a stag beetle?
Cool👍 can you send to Hawaii?? 🐜🦂🐛🦀🕷🦋
exactly
Is the spray bottle water?
Mike Flores yes
Is there a way of removing mold
+Laura Tinajero There's no real way to remove the mold other than gently scraping it off. Preventative measures are the best way.
acetone helps a bit, also Barber's fluid
how do you relax? :0
Are they actually dead or just sleeping when you pin them?
They'll die either way. If it's the first,it is natural death. If they're asleep, they'll die by impaled by nails😂😅
Hahahahahha
What do you men relaxing like did all of them die
+Diamond wolf lol, insect are dead and have been left to dry, being dry they wont easily bend into new positions, relaxing them is just softening them with moisture to allow them to be posed differently.

Leo Rolph calm down there buddy he was asking a question

Freezer
put them in a closed jar with acetone
I don't think there is a nice way to kill em'. The freezer you just don't have to see them die.
