First story is why you *ALWAYS* get the terms of any sort of agreement like this in writing, even if it means getting a lawyer involved to ensure the terms of the agreement are upheld. Even if you think you can trust someone, a verbal agreement cannot legally be enforced unless there is some sort of recording that can definitively prove what the terms of said agreement were. So even if you think you can trust the people in question, always state that you want the terms of the agreement recorded on paper with signatures from both parties, as that will help to prevent a betrayal and exploitation like this from happening.

Story 1: Ugggh.... this is why you always Always ALWAYS get things in writing. Never EVER just rely on anything verbal. You will ALWAYS get screwed over in one way or another. Bennie and Jane were obviously taking advantage of the OP's family and it was downright sickening. The revenge here was very good and very justified. I'm surprised the OP, or someone else, didn't try to light the place on fire or anything.
Story 2: OP is 100% not the jerk. You told the kid and the parents many many times not to trespass on your property. So, if they weren't going to do anything about it, the police will. So screw the kid and the parents. They deserve it.
Story 3: While you are free to name your child anything you please, i do think that the sister is rather insensitive about the naming. Naming your child something just because its "popular" is rather weird and dumb overall, but to name it after a childhood bully is just wrong. I know there are some names that i would never name a child after certain bullies i had during school.
Story 4: Yeah, the OP could've handled this alot better, but Devon is a complete jerk here, not the OP. Devon is absolutely not a friend at all, and it doesn't sound like the other people were either. They were all in on this with Devon.

About the third story. I agree with the fact the sister did such a scummy thing but at the same time. OP should let that go. I completely understand what OP went through as i had experienced that myself with few people that i won't mention their names. I understand that you have the right to choose whatever name you want, but to choose a name that had brings back bad memories to your own sibling is disgusting, immature and petty.

@@itz_ic21gaming97exactly. I had a childhood friend (call her “Brenda”) who was named after a girl her father had met, loved, and dated before he had met my friend’s mom. The Brenda my friend’s dad had dated unfortunately took her own life after finding out that she had cancer and didn’t want to go through the pain. My friend’s dad didn’t tell his wife or his daughter any of this until seven years after my friend Brenda was born.

2nd story: my neighbors on one side has young boys that play with a baseball of sorts, they didn't think about the wind too much when hitting it and where they were hitting it. A few times the ball would land in the yard and once one of the boys was like, I'll just climb over and get it. Thankfully someone was like, no you can't climb over. I was also outside a couple of times when the ball landed in the yard and was able to be asked right as it happened. There was one time I wasn't and the neighbor made sure that all of the kids were there to ask if I could get the ball for them.
Moral of the story: Teach your kids that they should ask their neighbors to get something from their yards vs just jumping over a fence to get something.

My aunt and uncle own my house I've lived in for 30 years. They bought it from my mother and other uncle when my grandad died as he left it to them and my aunt and her husband bought their share from them. The house needed doing up so that's what they did and my mother and I were now renting it for a way better rate than the rest of the area. Now after a falling out it seems family means nothing as they're evicting us, saying they're moving in. They currently live in Spain. Their excuse is to be closer to my cousin, their daughter but we don't buy it. They could easily rent a place here easier than me and my mother as we're unemployed and the rental market here in Ireland is out of control and too expensive for us to find a place in a market with thousands and thousands looking. So by next April I'll probably be homeless. Blood means nothing. That's what I've learned.

Story 3: The sister is a major jerk for this. There is huge power in a name and even hearing a name tied with that much pain can have a huge impact on you. I hate the name Anthony/Tony/Toni. Toni is my deadname, so it always gives me a pang of pain and annoyance when I hear it, but I can handle that. However, my mother remarried when I was I was around 17 (before I changed my name) and the man she married is named Anthony. Anthony always was really nice to me when they were still dating, then more distant after the wedding. I ended up having to move in with them when I was 18 and then it became extremely uncomfortable, scary at time, and traumatic. I'm not going into details but he made it extremely clear without ever saying the words that he wanted me out of his house and away from HIS wife, and that I was somehow at fault for mum cheating on him (of which there was never proof and how could it have been my fault?). He continued to make me uncomfortable and scared even after I finally got out. If anyone in group of people I call family named their child Anthony, I'd be upset too.

Story 2: NTA. The boy kicks that ball TEN TIMES into your garden, in that short of a span of time, he is doing it on purpose. He has been warned, his parents have been warned, yet he still does it. If the little monster got hurt on your property his stupid parents would probably sue you. Yet they do nothing to teach him boundaries and staying out of other people’s yards.
Story 3: NTA. That sister is totally insensitive and inconsiderate. And seeing what her sister went through, why would she name her own daughter after someone who tormented and terrorized a member of your family in that manner!? And so what if it is a “popular name”, that’s absurd. It is best to choose something unique but not flamboyant, pretentious, or foolish as to expose the child to ridicule.
Story 4: NTA. Devon is no friend if he participates in cheating with OP’s girlfriend. He lied about it as well. He violated OP’s trust. Then Devon smears OP’s reputation, turns all their friends against OP. Those friends didn’t hear OP’s side of the story, and worst of all they knew about the cheating yet failed to warn OP. To be brutally honest I think the op did win! yes they lost an enormous amount of money but the landlords lost even more money and any more possible money they could have gained from selling the house.
personally I would have just come over and offer to buy the house at a much cheaper rate and tell them that they need the money and I am willing to pay them.
but then again them just having to spend so much money on getting a proper fence bills is way more satisfying to hear.
also if the landlord ever reads this comment: pay the people what you owe them and they will not screw you over later down the line. because people can screw you over even without your realizing it.

Story 2: OP is not the jerk, but is going about correcting the problem the wrong way (and is fundamentally wrong about trespass).
Despite what OP wrote and told the child, trespass is not a crime in England (where they stated this happened). It is a civil matter which can lead to a crime being committed (criminal damage).
Cameras are good to collect evidence. Having a police report is useful. What OP needs to do is catalogue occurrences and then issue a complaint, together with times, dates, and the video evidence, of antisocial behaviour to the neighbor's landlord (given that it is social housing, getting the landlord contact details is very straight forward)
Social housing leases always have a section on antisocial behaviour. Make a fuss with the landlord, keep pressure on them with evidence, reports to non-emergency (101), and if it continues, raise it with your MP.
Their options rapidly become either relocate the tenant, or evict them. Providing evidence of antisocial behaviour makes either option fairly straight forward for the landlord.

For story 3, if you can name your daughter whatever you want, people have the right to dislike the name. OP said nothing during the meeting, yet the sister literally called and blamed them. People do not choose their trauma, but you can select your child's name. If that name happens to conflict with the trauma of a family member, then you do not get to call them the asshole when they cannot deal with the name. You are stepping on their trauma, you were the one to take that step.

Day 4 of asking for these stories because I cannot post on reddit, my parents don't want me on it, (rightfully so,) but I have a couple stories, and I really want to get mine into a video.
Crazy Lady From my school wants Me to leave the bathroom because a smaller kid peeked under the stall, and I got mad.
So, for reference I was in the 5th grade at this point, and I was in the bathroom minding my business, doing... what you would usually do in there, when this kid smiling runs up to the stall and peeks under, I yelled in both Suprise and anger. he was probably in about 2nd grade, so he should've known better at this point.
I was in the downstairs bathroom, because, at the time the upstairs bathroom was gross as hell. A lady nearby says: Hey! stop yelling at little kids you are older! You have lost your BATHROOM PRIVEGES. I'm sorry, What?!?!! Schools are so controlling. I denied and told her what happened. she did not care at all. She continued to count down to call the principle over this. she came and ended up acting really chill (which is not usual) and waited for me to be done. I asked for her to be talked to, (I really just wanted this lady fired) but I don't think she was ever punished, nor the kid.
Am I the Jerk for yelling?
Random karen get mad for me saying excuse me. This is a rather short story but I will tell it anyways, I was at the arcade with my dad. And this lady and her baby was in the way of the claw machine That I wanted to use. She wasn't using it I think she was just changing a diaper. I politely asked: "Excuse me"
I lost, and we moved on bu. She went through the effort to go all the way around. And yell and: Excuse me!!!! with her horrid breath in my face.
Am I the jerk for- Nah.
Crazy principle won't hear that I that I zoned out. So I was just getting done with recess and kind of just put a Hulu hoop down on the ground.
And the Recess duty, Asks me to put it away I zone back in and ask her what she said And she was already calling the office over this. I told her that this was a misunderstanding and I zoned out And she said that that was somehow worse! I got sent to the office, And had to wait for my crappy school lunch for like an hour more than my classmates. Someone finally gets inherent of course. It's the vice principle who's always Super mean for no reason. I just explained what happened and she said. Okay, are you never explained it again? That it was by accident and it might happen again. I'm not one to just lie, And say it will never happen again. Just cause they want me to. But she kept repeating like a broken record player and Kept saying do you understand?? do you understand?!?!?! Am I the jerk for zoning out??

Devil's advocate on the neighbor situation, The neighbors said that they were loud during the and didn't respect the fact that she work from home. That sounds like she doesn't know zoning laws, And if she works from home, would she tell the truth that she was willing to give him the ball back as soon as it ended up in her backyard, Or would she ignore him while she was working and not answer the door. Because I could totally see hor whitewashing the is washing the truth. I think there was some information lost specifically. Because she said that her neighbors didn't respect. We're working from home and being too loud. It's summer and kids play that makes noise, Is during the day. I've dealt with some stuck up self entitled neighbors, and they will definitely lie to suit their neeight, I would love to see time-stamped video of him. Not knocking on her door in between the ball. Going to the backyard and him jumping in the fence. The police won't look for that, and it's a petty crime if she keeps the balls and refuses to give them back and tell after she's done working. I do understand if it's happening all day long don't give me wrong but She never said anything About whether or not she would be Fine having to constantly answer the door because she had to give back the ball. Believe it or not Is my mom has had a neighbor, Complain because when she would play with her dogs and her yard inside a fence, With a ball during the day, it would upset her dog by getting him riled up, And her complain to the neighbors and make her sound. Like My mom's doing something wrong. Grangeling time with her dog in the front yarduring the day. Sorry for the rent, But I'm not telling you something you don't know that neighbors don't always tell the truth., And in what world would my mom In her 60s playing with 2 dogs in the front yard. Behind offense down from her house. In the middle of the day.

The bully was a stalker and actually ruined a big part of the OP's childhood so the sister naming her child that is really insensitive honestly. I get that they like that name, but surely they could at least compromise and make that the middle name instead

With the second story, I don’t think it’s always as black-and-white as the narrator makes it. We don’t know what’s going on in the kids household so the parents could very easily be talking to him. And when he’s kicking the ball over, he could very easily be doing that when his parents aren’t home. and I bet if that’s the case and the parents are home and saw him do it they wouldn’t tell him. Hey, knock it off.

Story 3: It might cruel to say this but, It's just a name move on. "But but but this is the name that relates to bad things." yes, true but that would also mean that this is something you're clinging onto, for some reason and question is "Why keep holding onto it?". "You just don't know how it feels to have a trauma." Perhaps? But that's also why you have to fix yourself, Living within Trauma without being able to let go or accept parts of it is not exactly fun. "It's not that easy." Well that why you gotta start now.

This isn't just bullying though, that girl followed the OP home. Also, sure it is the OP's responsibility to get better, but it's really not as easy as just getting over it. Especially with the amount of time the bullying took place, as well as how constant it seemed to have been it likely took a big toll on the OP not only to have to put up with that, but also for the OP's sister to disregard the stress that put her through and to name her kid after the bully.
The sister was fully aware of the problems the OP had and still decided to disregard her feelings.
Say what you will, but honestly I disagree.

It may be “just a name” and yes, anyone can name their child whatever they want. Your thoughts about clinging to trauma seem to make light of the power of a name. I think the sister should have not used that name, for the same reason normal people don’t name their son “Adolf”. (If you have no clue, study World War II, Germany)

Imo the sister has a right to give her child whatever name she wants and the rest of the family had to live with that. However, the family has a right to have an opinion on it and make sure it comes across loud and clear, and the sister similarly has to deal with that. I'm not saying she did anything wrong, but she was extremely stupid and inconsiderate

  • @niftytraveler
    @niftytraveler ปีที่แล้ว

For the a****** sister, if it were me as the person who was bullied, I would tell her that I will absolutely never call that child Olivia. From this day forward I will call her "Livie". And then I would encourage all the rest of the family to call that beautiful child (who did nothing wrong) that name. If nobody in the family decides to use the name the mother decided was the official name, then she'll just have to accept that that's what the family is calling this child. I think a nickname would solve the problem.

Story 3: OP is the jerk in this situation. Sure, I feel bad that she was bullied, but life isn't fair. If you were really that traumatized, you would seek some form of therapy or other help. But instead, you chose to bottle up your feelings and wage war on people whenever the name Olivia is mentioned. This is a very unhealthy was of dealing with your problems. Just because there is one bad Olivia, doesn't mean that your sister is no longer going to like the name. It's her child, she gets to choose the name and not you. And you said it yourself, Olivia is the most popular name. So, do you honestly expect to avoid every Olivia in life? What if your new in-law in named Olivia, are you going to stop attending all family gatherings for the rest of your life, so you have a safe space? Honestly you need to grow up. Learn to forgive Olivia for bullying you and seek some form of therapy because life doesn't revolve around you.
