"O Deutschland hoch in Ehren" is an energetic German melody composed by Ludwig Bauer (1832-1910) in 1859 and set up with a good soundtrack by Henry Hugh Pierson. The tune was, other than the "Deutschlandlied", "Pass on Wacht am Rhein" and "Des Deutschen Vaterland", the most mainstream enthusiastic hymn in the nineteenth century.
In 1858, Henry Hugh Pierson, an English arranger inhabitant in Germany, had composed a tune for the devoted tune Ye sailors of England by Thomas Campbell.[1] One year later, he met Ludwig Bauer, who later wedded Pierson's stepdaughter Dorothea Lyser. Pierson requested that Bauer compose a German content to the current tune.,
