I remember back in the early eighties a guy caught a 52" Musky just above the South Elgin dam. I was in the paper. DNR stocked the Fox River heavy with Musky back then. The Northern Pike don't do well with the water level changes. Thanks for sharing and happy fishin
Where on the Fox River are you if you don't mind me asking I'm from southern Illinois originally but I lived in Aurora from '73 til '83 graduating from West Aurora North Campus in '80 and attended Waubonsee CC for one year before going to SIU-Edwardsville
My best piece of advice for this river, especially in the winter is to down size and work the lures as slow as you can. And if you’re looking for any guides check out Andrew Schiera (Veteran Guide Service) he fishes primarily the chain and Lake Geneva
My respect for taking on the challenge of targeting Musky. I have fished the fox river for a long time in all the spots mentioned. I have caught smallmouth, walleye, northern, flathead and channel cats, carp, etc... I have not yet targeted Musky in the Fox river. Ive caught a few at the dams in the Wisconsin river. Im really interested in the outcome of your quest, please keep us posted. 👍
If I had the time I would try below the Mchenry dam west side of the river! There’s a deep bowl where we would catch walleye and im sure there would be a musky or two in there! We used to access the park on the east side but you may want to look into it because of the time of year! Definitely a kayak adventure!
Hey bud when you are reeling back in ur lure for muskies try to at least stop 3 feet in front of you and dip the tip of ur rod In front of you and make an 8 about the size of ur body from left to right at least 3 times cause if there's a muskie following it u wanna make sure you can make it follow it to catch him
@remyvillarreal yeah Remy i have gone to fox river to fish for bass pike and muskie and seen some videos on muskie fishing. The people that fish for them show you how they fish for them in lakes and rivers top water would be ur best lure at Fox River cause it is very low still don't know why it's still low but that Medusa bait is good for deeper lake's than the river cause you'll be able to fish over weed... Look up fox river muskie fishing
You cant fish in the bypass channel by the yorkville dam. Its for kayaks and tubing but right where u were below the dam and by the wall i always catch bass there. Also in summer when the water is very low i go wade out to middle of river which is like 2ft deep and go right up to the dam and walk right up on the dam when water is barely going over it and fish on deeper side. Lol I'll get your maga bass lure in the spring.
You are correct. That creek is indeed a great spring/early summer muskie spot. I have caught 6 in that creek mouth in one morning. Haven't done too good later in the year tho. Crank baits that u can jerk and suspend are key this time of year. I can tell u have passion and are not afraid to put in the work to catch a muskie so I'll give u one of my go to fall spots. I'm sure some of your viewers may not like it. But if you were to head further down river from the creek u we're at there is another creek call boyscout creek. The mouth of that creek is more productive than the actually creek this time of year. In that creek mouth there is a little drop.. maybe 6inches to a foot and the muskies will use that little edge. Some days you can get one to bite. Some days you just get a couple to follow. Some days you won't see anything. But u hit that spot up multiple times it's bound to happen. And also the shoreline to the left of that creek to that bridge can be productive.
Awesome video bro🎉

That’s a big Musky. I’ve never seen a fox river pike.

Those are some pretty good rapids for a kayak 😅 yeah it looked like a prime smallmouth spot.
@remyvillarreal under the big rt47 bridge right there its usually is a good spot.
Your video sucked you owe me like $100 bucks

And try and use a top water muskie lure water ain't deep enough for the Medusa and big bass lure your trying to use. Ur gonna keep getting snagged 😢
