I'm always really exited when movies like Fisherman's Friend come out, because the world today is really scary and depressing. So movies like Fisherman's Friend, Finding Your Feet or Swimming with Men are great escapism. My favourite films tend to be 70s films like Taxi Driver, All the Presidents Men and The Exorcist. But I also love lighthearted films like Bill Forsyth's Local Hero.
It is indeed a charmer. The plot beats are predictable but I fell for its appeal hook, line and sinker - until the ending where all the strands were tied up too quickly.
Yes, a nice, perhaps somewhat predictable film, which I would have quite happily taken my mother to see. No sexual content, no offensive language or violence. Cheesey, but a nice family film with good foot tapping music.
I've seen it and agree with this review. It is flawed in places, utterly predictable but it works out precisely as you'd want a feel good movie to. Sometimes that's precisely what you need. There's one moment that is set up too obviously and the pacing, as someone else remarked, is a little uneven. A little more care in the edit could have helped but it was still a hit with me. I'm not even a folk music fan but the music was so enjoyable I'm seriously thinking of going to see the Fisherman's Friends on tour later this year.
Absolute cheese. Danny Mays is always good but I cringed all the way through it. It gradually dawns on you that five of the Fishermen’s Friends never actually speak. My favourite cliche was the 30 second scene with the minibus that used “2-4-6-8 Motorway”.
David Śteel it’s 6 of the fisherman’s friends I’m almost 100% sure who don’t speak and reason for that is because in real life there was 10 of them but of course the tragedy happened and the band took time off so there is about 8 or 9 now. Anyway when they actors were auditioning for the film, the producers knew how hard it would be to find amazing fairly known actors who would come down to such a remote place for a film that may not be so well known. Shame that but that’s how it is :( but I personally think the film is so good but that’s my opinion:)
I found the movie incredibly cringy and equal parts too goofy and too sentimental. Daniel Mays' character was just so annoying and unlikeable throughout the whole film, I just wanted to punch him in the face (it almost happened in the movie but sadly not quite, although he deserved it). The movie had no subtlety whatsoever, almost like a children's movie in places. Silly romance subplot with no chemistry and zero believability. Shame because the story is actually quite lovely and the music is great.
mmm? this review is pathetic, pretentious nonsense. The film isn't charming or sweet. It is about a real life group of people who have had a remarkable career, from local pub and quayside to national fame and still out there despite tragedy in 2013, touring and entertaining people. I have seen both the real Fisherman's Friends, most recently in Morecambe, and the film last night. Thoroughly enjoyed both. Of course there is a lot of artistic licence going on but the core of the film is a true story which is remarkable, and highlights what so many parts of the country have lost, true community spirit and camaraderie. Quite simply, I really enjoyed the film. End of.
BOWCHICKAWOWOW I saw the film, I thought it “charming and sweet” Maybe get an adult to explain to you what an ‘opinion’ is. Because an opinion and a fact are not the same. One is absolute, one is subjective. You don’t like the opinion of someone else? Learn to deal with it instead of kicking up a fuss!
Cutesy-poo stuff to try and convince us that these aren't Ukip loving demi-fascists but quaint English folk, ready for American public television and a tour of the village.

What was going on with Noel Clarke’s accent
yeah, the only thing that i really didn't like was Noel's accent
James Puresex is in this one? Phwoar.

I come from Plymouth which is actually quite close to Cornwall so I went there last Easter
It’s over the tamar bridge
Take a shot! Jason Isaacs name drop!
They were friends at school
@@nifralo2752 I know. That's why I mentioned the name drop.
Just seen it it was absolutely brilliant! Easily makes my top 50 list best films of the last 10 years!
What kind of arbitrary list is that?
It’s amazing isn’t it! My dads in the real fisherman friends and on the movie ahahah
My favourite movie I know the whole script of by heart and it's very sad
Seems like a movie your grandad would love
except for "it's kind of charming" I didn't understand a word of this review.
I adore the real Fisherman's Friends, love Port Isaac, but I fell asleep during the film.

BOWCHICKAWOWOW bizzare.
So you liked the film, and Mark liked the film, and you hate Mark. I don't get it.
BOWCHICKAWOWOW I saw the film, I thought it “charming and sweet”

The trailer made me puke
Pure cheesiness
time lord :(
Can’t stand Daniel Mays so I’ll give this a miss.
Ricardo Terelli I just think he overacts and I just tend to cringe when I watch him. Just something about him bugs me.
You should still watch it though, be a shame not to watch a fantastic film just because of one actor you don't like.
He's actually really good in this. Plays it down if anything
It’s an amazing film and so funny especially if you know Cornish and shanty songs! I would really recommend it

Rubbish.
@@r4h4al That's what I basically called it, yes. You summed it up nicely.
I meant your comments.
You sound pretty racist.
I do hope this is sarcastic
Mark Kermode is the most boring bloke alive.
He speaks very highly of you though.
@@capcolombie3834 No he doesn't. He told me that he thinks nigeace is keyboard warrior knob.
