I'm a magician and I have successfully performed the last joey trick where he looks at the card. It was a party and I did it as a test to three girl to "see if they're sober enough" to be watching magic tricks. I expected them to see what I was doing and show them that they are not too drunk (one of them was driving and sober). However they noticed nothing which probably left me more amazed than them.
Leslie Nielsen in Airplane. Woman with eggs coming out of her mouth. It's not presented as a magic trick in the movie but it's a classic concept and trick none the less

Love the friends card trick. My son (11) once tried to do the “is this your card? Trick, but his version was asking with every card was my card until he got it right. He is super witty. The funniest part was I didn’t put it in the deck, so he went through the entire deck -1 and said “well I guess you did it wrong”. Then I pulled it out of my front pant pocket and he says “tada! See I made it appear in your pocket!”

I’m pretty sure the late, great Ricky Jay consulted on a lot of John C Reilly’s films including this one. He’s in the movie. . The two of them apparently were fairly good friends. There’s an outstanding video here on TH-cam of Ricky dealing poker and telling various tales. Pure gold and a must see for any magician.

I was wondering where he got it. But he had it from the beginning. As soon as u see him u can see him palming the apple . He flashes is when the camera cuts back to him actually. When his hand goes from the right to left. (his left to right)

Correct me if I'm wrong about this but in the Illusionist one: if it were really Pepper's Ghost then the cuts to the camera from behind when she turns to look back at Edward Norton wouldn't have worked right? Doesn't Pepper's Ghost only work from one angle?
How about the Neil Patrick Harris vanishing trick during the 2013 Tony Awards opening number? He disappears from the stage and reappears on the other side of the theater. Not quite sure why it appeared in my recommendations, but the moment I saw the trick, I immediately thought of you.
The Gilmore Girls clip WAS REAL. HE REALLY DID IT. If you watch it frame by frame, you can see he is actually holding the apple in his hand the entire time and it 'flashes' for about 3 frames after showing the backside of the cloth
The first trick was a *signed* card through the window right? It occurs to me that the typical trick would have been done with just one card or a couple of possible cards rather than a unique card...
I love these videos. I never paid much attention to magic in movies and tv shows really. Now, every time I see a magic trick, I critique it like I'm a damn magician. I don't even know a card trick! But this series makes me question Everything! Good job Wes...for ruining magic for me. lol. I love it and can't get enough of it.

Regarding the first trick I always felt the same when someone handles a deck of cards "unnaturally" which some could claim it would be unnatural to handle the cards the way a magician does it. However. The great Lennart Green handles cards almost like a fool, a novice, but to great effect. He is, of course, very skilled but he knows when to make it look as he has no idea what he is doing. I don't think that's the way it was intended in the first scene, but it can be used to throw you off into thinking this person has no idea what to do with these .

The rising card trick has been around since at least the early 20th century. You can buy various versions of vintage RC decks on eBay.
