Story we are following from the Reds:
CINCINNATI -- To complete their Opening Day roster, the Reds added outfielder Bubba Thompson on Wednesday.
Thompson was recalled after he was already optioned to Triple-A Louisville on March 13. But Cincinnati had an outfield shortage after TJ Friedl fractured his right wrist during a Spring Training game.
“He has a lot of experience," manager David Bell said. "We love the defense he plays in the outfield. He’s had a nice camp for us. He’s making strides offensively that our hitting coaches are liking and we’re all seeing. It will be great to have Bubba as part of our team.”
Thompson, 25, batted .269 with one home run in 15 Cactus League games. In the offseason, he was claimed off waivers by the Reds in October only to bounce to the Yankees, then the Twins, then back to the Reds again on Feb.13.
Here is the finalized 26-man Reds roster:
Catcher (2): Tyler Stephenson, Luke Maile
The pair of veterans were set behind the plate before camp opened.
First base (1): Christian Encarnacion-Strand
Encarnacion-Strand has gotten most of the reps at first base in games, and has shown no shortage of the power that he displayed as a rookie last season when he hit 13 home runs in 63 games. The right-handed slugger will also see time as a designated hitter in 2024.
Second base (1): Jonathan India
Matt McLain's left shoulder injury will have him opening the season on the injured list. Meanwhile, India gets back the position he's had for the past three seasons, but he could still appear at first base or left field.
Shortstop (1): Elly De La Cruz
Will the offseason hitting adjustments that looked mostly good in Spring Training sustain De La Cruz during the regular season?
Third base (1): Jeimer Candelario
With Noelvi Marteout with an 80-game suspension for PED use, Candelario is cemented as the regular third baseman. The switch hitter, who signed a three-year, $45 million contract in the offseason, started 115 games at third base last season for the Nationals and Cubs.
Outfielders (5): Spencer Steer, Jake Fraley, Will Benson, Stuart Fairchild, Bubba Thompson
The Reds will miss TJ Friedl's contributions, both offensively and defensively. Center field will be split by Benson and Fairchild until Friedl returns from a fractured right wrist.
Utility/bench (2): Nick Martini, Santiago Espinal
Starting pitchers (5): Frankie Montas, Hunter Greene, Graham Ashcraft, Andrew Abbott, Nick Martinez. Missing from the list is Nick Lodolo, who, after being cleared from his left tibia issues, is slated to make his regular-season debut on April 10 vs. the Brewers.
Relief pitchers (8): Alexis Díaz (CL), Lucas Sims, Brent Suter, Emilio Pagán, Buck Farmer, Fernando Cruz, Tejay Antone, Justin Wilson
Antone, who has dealt with elbow injuries since 2021, made the team after a solid spring and after it was determined Sam Moll (left shoulder soreness) would open the season on the IL.

Cubs fans must enjoy this
Trace and Nick, thank you for enduring this for us. Let's go Reds always
Ricky The Man Logan.
@@seanconner5547 Sean Conner the 🐐 let’s go beat us some Dodgers aye?
This is officially the most embarrassed I’ve been as a lifelong Reds fan. And that’s scary. Good show as always nonetheless
This is terrible but it’s definitely been worse.
The mistakes are quite fundamental. At what point is this coach’s fault?
We need to keep striving to be 500 by the allstar break
How does everyone on this team suck so bad?
Remember last year at the deadline we were told it wasn't our window to win. When is it our window?
Unless David Bell is fired I'm done with this team. I hope everyone has a great summer thanks for videos guys. See ya next March reds fans
lol to tell the truth I’m not really feeling bad. It’s baseball and I’ll say it and keep saying it again. We are still playing competitive baseball.
This thing is pretty much over. The horse is out of the barn. They may as well have McLain sit out the entire year and get him in shape for next year.
He won the series for them. What would we give for a hitter like him right now?
10 games below .500 ... We are going to be out of this before the all star break .. I really had high hopes for this season
Hopefully when Marte comes back he can be a spark plug at this point I don’t think he’s going to hurt anything 🥴
If you feel hot this summer stand beside a Reds batter and it will cool you down. 16 strikeouts today what a joke
Why fire David bell? Who do we get to replace him?
Fire Reed
We should see if we can get Luis Arraez for a few mid prospects like the padres lol
I was campaigning for Joey to get the money and stay for all his years of service. He played on so many bad teams where we refused to give him help
Tomato tomato lol right? Hey the padres got manny machado. And the just got Luis Arraez for a 3rd and a 10th prospect?
Teams that’s hold on to their prospects are afraid they don’t really have prospects. The dodgers, padres, and Yankees have all figured out that if u trade 4 or 5 prospects, then next year u have other prospects 😂. They are just prospects not sure things.
I don’t care about a cam collier or Conner Phillips. We have 1st round Hendricks is not even a prospect anymore. We don’t know if these guys will pan out. We need to trade for proven commodities right now
If we arnt gonna do that, then why the heck did we cast Joey Votto off, and I’m watching our Joey finish his Career in a foreign uniform.
We arnt getting killed 10-0, we are usually loosing on one baseball play like tonight. We are being out classed not dominated.
They could bring Barry Larkin down from the booth 🤷🏽♂️
Never Down Nick probably at tee ball right now talking how the worst kid on the team had better at bats today even though he struck out and fell on his butt 🤦♂️
This is a developmental team. Love the Reds hate the coach.
How can you sign Frankie Montas and not even consider Trevor Bauer for league minimum I’m cannot watch David Bell manage this team Fire Bell Ownership and management have no clue how to run this organization
Great show thee reds are the worst team in baseball
Season is over. One of the worst teams in baseball. Excited about 2025 though.
