    Snorlax is a good Pokemon in general, Adding the Ghost type however makes it broken as it covers the few weaknesses Snorlax had

      The literal single typing weakness it has. Ghost is just broken in general early game due to most Pokemon being limited to Normal type moves at low levels so being able to hard wall them helps immensely. Also being able to take nothing from Hyper Beams later on is nice.

    Crits actually ignore stat changes in all gens not just gen 1. The only difference is that in gen 1 only crits ignore stat changes that would increase their damage as well. What you said was technically correct but I just felt an urge to clarify.

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      For sure. I was specifically meaning that raising our own stats even with BBG completely gets ignored on a crit, same for our Harden/Amnesia

    Apparently if you trade a magneton over from gen 2 to gen 1 it thinks the steel typing is fire typing. Might be neat to do a run with it and see how that effects things if at all.

    • @codyssmith73
      @codyssmith73 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Peelster1 What I mean by this is that some glitch Pokémon will have a type listed that is fraudulent and won’t result in them having that typings effectiveness or weaknesses. In 4 89 4’s case, his Ghost typing is one of those fraudulent types, allowing it to get hit by Normal Attacks.
      Another case of this would be ‘r ‘r 4, whose falsely listed as a Fighting Type when his effectiveness points to him being a Water type instead, like Politied, the Time Capsule Pokémon used to acquire him unless you use GameShark Codes.

    30:51 That fight against Koga is just as much an example of the importance of EXP management as it is of randomness. Normal Snorlax was losing its badge boosts due to leveling up before Venomoth. GhostLax only leveled up at the end of battle.
    Edit: I got confused about why their EXP was different when I remembered this was minimum battles, but it looks like you routed Erika before Koga for normal Snorlax.

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah that was a factor too. I decided to avoid Koga until later for NormLax because I expected trouble there. Going straight there with Poison/paralysis status would have been best

  • @LiamD613
    @LiamD613 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I fucking love this - any time I see someone using a Ghostlax I am here for it!
    Back in the days of ORAS battle spot I had the insane idea to build a status-move only team for doubles where a Ghostlax was the ace in my team, and the other mons were basically fully dedicated to getting him set up before doing anything else.
    Firstly , there was a Gourgeist with trick-or-treat to give Snorlax the Normal/Ghost typing. Secondly, there was Shuckle - who would share his defensive stats with Snorlax by using guard split , giving Snorlax some absolutely insane base defense stats. Finally, there was Banette with Skill Swap and a mega stone - Mega Banette had the prankster ability, which once it got swapped onto Snorlax gave all his moves +1 priority since the whole team was built with only status moves.
    Then there was Snorlax's item & moveset - Chesto Berry, Rest, Recycle, Stockpile and Curse.
    Chesto-Resto & Recycle is an absolutely broken combo in its own right, but think about adding that to a prankster pokemon which effectively guaranteed a full heal at the start of every other turn, which also has a +3 def & sp.def multiplier gained by maxing out stockpile, which itself is stacked on top of the shared defensive stats from shuckle AND the type immunities gained from the Normal/Ghost typing gained from trick-or-treat. It transformed Snorlax from being a standard defensive wall into an outright immovable object.
    However, since the other pokemon in the team were pretty frail all things considered, Snorlax also needed a way to do damage too, but on a first glance at the moveset you'd think it doesnt have that... OR DOES IT?! This is where the final part of the insanity of this strategy came in - by adding the ghost type with trick-or-treat, it didnt just give Snorlax the type immunities - it changed Curse from the non-damaging variant of the move which ghost types CAN'T use, into the damaging variant that ghost types CAN use! Once snorlax was fully set up id use curse, rest off all the damage, wake up with the chesto berry, recycle to get the berry back, then rinse-repeat until my opponents lost the match or quit 😂. Sometimes i'd even opt to rest for the full two turns to conserve pp. If any of my other team members survived the setup process i'd use them to inflict burn or poison damage to whittle the other team down even faster too.
    Sure, the strategy was fairly easy to counter, and failing to get Ghostlax fully set up meant i'd be guaranteed a loss, but I had a huge amount of fun on the occasions where I did manage to execute it.

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That whole strat sounds insanely broken if you can set it up! I need to try Gen 2 GhostLax with Curse to see how broken that becomes. Because Rest +Curse sounds broken AF.

    I wonder if you could have gotten away with not setting up absolutely everything against the Sandslash, but only the Hardens and one Amnesia, and taken Alakazam through that to get to Exeggutor and finish the Amnesias there? It would have been two fewer turns of risk, which might have made the difference.
    But yeah, I think the luck factor was somewhat excessive here. A 10% chance to freeze should have procced WAY sooner than it did.

      @RBYPokemonChallenges  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a huge live commentary as I tried every possible combo of setups with Hardens, try to KO Sandslash and setup, try to freeze Sandslash, try to freeze Alakazam. The problem is that either you get KOed by Alakazam using Psychic or Psybeam most of the time, or it uses Kinesis to lower accuracy killing you for the rest of the fight. Also, without the Amnesias setup before Kazam, it takes way too long to KO it to get through to Exeggutor

      @RBYPokemonChallenges gotcha. Thr original reason why i asked was because I've been half expecting some mons' stats being higher in one category despite that species having base stats lower than another (a mon having a higher attack in-game than speed despite having a base 70 attack and base 80 speed, for example) in one of your videos. Quickly checking one of your Mew runs, there's barely a variance in stats, besides HP. For how little stat xp you get, it makes sense there isn't that much variation. Looking at the stat calculation math, taking the square root of your stat xp and then dividing by 4 doesn't mean a lot when you only have a few hundred or thousand xp in any given stat

    Man... I was COMPLETELY convinced I did the Brock fight on Minimum battles on 0DVs but either I'm tripping or forgot I took an optional battle because I'm just not able to replicate that at all. Or I just got ridiculous luck and didn't recognize it. At first I thought I just did it on Red/Blue, but upon retrying it... Defense Curl and higher level seems to make that fight even more impossible. Or I was just getting flustered and playing badly.
    I will say the battle seems SLIGHTLY less impossible if you burn all 20 Amnesias on Wild pokemon without killing any before heading into the battle. Even then, perhaps I'm on a wild goose chase as victory seems to require all kinds of hax to let you still have a good number of Rests for Onix.
    Perhaps this is all a waste of everyone's time, but I want to keep trying the method with Amnesia at 0PP and see if it gets me anywhere. Not that it would ever matter... with all the resets you have to take, in a practical run, you're so much better off fighting Rival 1A or the light years trainer or... something like that.

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, in .y original video in 2022, I burned all Amnesias and then went in with only Rest and Headbutt, so all the resets showing were with that strategy..
