I listened to my town's band orchestra play this work yesterday and it hit me really hard that I couldn't stop crying. Now I'm listening to this performance crying as well! It's so wierd how music can play our emotions without telling a word!
I first saw this video years ago. Coming back, these guys still blow me away. Outstanding performance of some wonderful music (not sure why 24 people dislike this). I hope that they are all still making music somewhere after graduating
This recording of the song is beautiful, the band does such a great job and they really nail it. Whenever I come back to listen it always sounds so moving, and it really hits me in the middle choral section.
This song has so many emotions in it. It's so beautiful you can here the emotions in the band members as they're playing it. The hard work really pays off
Yesterday I heard this work in the Auditorium of Barcelona interpreted by the Municipal Band under the direction of Jan Cober, Simply magnificent. Mr. Yagisawa has won a new fan.
omg the percussionist and flutes move with so much vigor so much energy! totally love how japanese bands move as tho they r 1 with the music... FANTASTIC!
My High school band played an arrangement of this song for marching band competition so I just want to say thank you Satoshi Yagasawa for letting us use this
They don't start their training in middle school, they start much, much earlier with private lessons and dedicated school teachers who expect high standards. When I lived in Irvine, many students in the youth orchestras had that discipline. I wish our government realized how important that is.
About 2:40 it suddenly occurs to me that these guys are super tight. The whole thing was crazy impressive. And then -holy crap- they can really sing, too. Great performance.
I want to know what they are doing when they first start that makes them this good. I know they didn't start off playing like this but there has to be something that they specifically do that helps them be this good.
usually a good director is a start, then it's about taking everything musicians are capable of and combining all of that. The director is usually able to ensure that the band can do all of those things that they are capable of. sidenote: my band is playing this and we sound pretty darn good, but with plenty of space to grow. I go to a high school that is a Grammy Signature Gold school :)

if everybody practice much and starts to sing then it'll work
First you need to be born with the god given talent. Second you need to have a passion for the instrument you play and music like it's a part of you. And lastly you need dedication and practice but not just practice. Practicing the correct way.
A school in my area is playing that part in their marching band show, and in that part I had so many chills it was amazing. They won first place and deserved it

i always always love how satoshi yagisawa have vocal parts in his composition. Perseus is another great composition! =D
Yet another Japanese high school that sounds better than a professional wind ensemble.

The conductor is sooo awesome....wish i him as my conductor
My son just played this at PA State band, it was magnificent! He played clarinet. Over 150 kids performing there made the sound huge.
This is beautiful, like i cried. this should have way more views and way more likes.

Playing this for nationals in May! Worked on it for so long, and we're still not even close to the right tempo.
karboy101 Out of curiosity, which country's nationals? Because my school is also playing this song for the Canadian nationals in May.
Heeeeeeyyyy, thatswhere we were going! but our region is on strike, so we may not be able to go
Same. Let's hope the strike ends soon, and good luck with your performance if it happens.
karboy101 Yep :) Nice code language btw
We should probably continue this conversation by PM.

@TheJadeify Hahahas, Agree. (:

This is a high school? How?
Lots and lots and lots and lots of practice. Plus good directing and a bit of talent.
In japan Band isn't a class they take every day, it's more of a club they go to after school everyday for 3-4 hours.
Damn solid for a high school, but far from the best.
And if you're asking how,
THIS
IS
asia.
Penn HS in Indiana just preformed this piece at state state finals. So it's not just Asia.
SpookyBeverage in malaysia , band isnt a course to be taken . we only have 2-3 hours to practise . 😂 but this band is damn gooodddddd
OSIJJA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this a shorter, reduced version of the work?
Yeah they cut out a lot of the flute feature sections
who is conducting this band?
the one conducting in this video?
Where bass clarinet 😭
