I'm *_LOVING_* these tutorials. Clear, concise, simple. I like how we're reinforcing the basic shape tools with examples. It seems like a lot of creators first shape is a rectangle with a cylindrical pocket, and then the second is a mega shape created with curves and lofts using splines and other crazy tools. It's like learning how to ride a skateboard and then being dropped into an F1 car.
Thank you so much for your videos. Im new to cad and found your channel a few days ago. I already learned so much. You described very well and clear. Easy to understand. Thank you so much
I would love to know all the preferences settings you have. Mine is set to default and it's hard to select, hard to see if something is selected, and even the polyline is showing up black on mine instead of white. Perhaps an idea for a video where you show a diagram and show the differences before an after changing the preferences. Or perhaps someone out there has a fantastic blog on how to make all the settings great. Thanks for you video, it's been awesome!
Nice video. Organized, clear, understandable speech. I did get a "wire is not closed error" which disappeared when I deleted the line in the last step.
Ty for the excellent video. I need to model something very similar with tapered sides so this is support helpful. Side note… am I the only one that finds the phrase “right click to cancel the command” super confusing? “Cancel” to me (American English) means it would throw away anything already done since starting the command. “Right click to exit the command” or “right click to close the command” would make way more sense. You speaking is so clear and precise, it’s just this one thing always throws me off and I wonder if it’s a dialect difference.
This catches me out too - I'm a British English speaker. Cancel would nearly always imply to undo whatever was just done. A better option might be to deselect the command, or to exit the command.
i very much appreciate your tutorials, they are great and very helpful, however the app seems not able to recreate these examples; when it got to trimming the tangencies, it showed too many errors and after several attempts, starting over a few times; it could not get past the trimming issues.
I had a similar issue using the weekly build - it removed all, or at least many constraints. I undid the changes and saved the project. I then tried again with the 1.0 release, and trimming worked as expected.
While you can for sure add fillets in sketches it is much easier at times to add them as a solid modeling feature instead of- this has the advantage of keeping sketches simpler and faster.
You could have eliminated creating a datum plane had you selected "Symmetric to plane" on the first pad. Then when you mirrored, you would have had the origin planes to mirror across.
Hi I just installed the new Free cad version 1.0.0 but the grid and many of the display buttons are totally different than yours. It is very confusion. For example, the back grid is all white

Excellent exercise, simple and clear even for those, like me, who have just approached Free Cad. Thank you
Great example, thanks
Great. Thank you very much 🙂
That was awesome! thank you!
Excellent!
awesome! thx!
Great!!, when you show us the gears and assembly?

At least I’m not alone. I figured out what they meant after a couple videos, just certainly didn’t at first.

How do you get the dimensions to display when dragging a shape? Thank you in advance!
Great video as always!
As for dimensions when drawing geometry, this is a new feature available in FreeCAD 1.0.

Can Free CAD do layers on a 2D drawing?
