“In war, you learn to demonize your enemies. Because if they aren’t the bad guys. What does that make you?” -Vanessa Kimble I love this quote because it is the pure truth of war. We demonize the enemy to compensate for the horrific things you’ve done in was. But they are all human, they hurt. Bleed and feel pain, remorse. Young men wanting to go home. They demonize the enemy and see them as inhuman. Both sides are the same in the end. They may demonize the enemy but they do it because the fight for what the believe in. They fight to protect the ones behind them from the same people that are trying to fight on the other side. War is a horrific thing. I’ve never seen combat but I knew many who has. The men that fought to protect me. Broke down because they hurt the people in the other side who did the same as them. Fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers. It’s all one giant loss. This tribute helped me understand this better. It was amazing and I hope this post shows that not everything is peace and love.

As i was watching All Quiet on the western front (1930) something that didn't hit me until the very end is that all the characters in the scenes you watch are dead. Not just the in movie characters but the actors too. It's just like watching dead people.
I’m practically in tears. Millions upon millions of young men went to their deaths, not only for their country, but for their comrades, family, friends, everything they cared about. The war was not over freedom, not over anything worth a damn. It was all conquest. The Allie’s were literally recapturing what they lost. And to think two stupid bullets caused this makes me weep.
We may all agree for peace but there is always someone who wages war for their reasons and then we have no option left but just to fight. Some say it for honour, others for glory,at the end it is all for nothing but to protect our loved ones so that they may see another day. This is what a soldier dies for
In war there is no winners just survivors even then there past self died a long time ago and something new came from the ashes of war….something that will live with them for the rest of there lives.
Winners write the history books, thats especially true for WWII. Germany did no right thing in that war and as a German I hate what we did but also I am glad you put some scenes in this video that showed the perspective from our side as well. Really good video capturing the violence of war, especially horrifing to think about right now as Ukraine is getting demolished like France and Poland were from Germany back in 1939. I hope that the Ukrainian people get trough it and get the help they need so we can end this war and build their country back up.
I frequently come to this video and am captivated by its weight. I haven't been able to watch the whole thing through without pausing to compose myself (All of my grandfathers before me fought in the wars so, it's personal). I find that to be the most prominent detail. How you display it in a way that holds you hostage. You HAVE to see it, you MUST endure. Almost makes me bold enough to say that it captures the perspective of the fighters well, except for the comfort of the pause button and everytime I hit the pause, I remember there was no pause, no moment of recollection, no catching your breath. Needless to say, I'm still working out all the emotions and thoughts that provoke me while enduring this video.. hands, clasped to the armrests, feet, seconds from flight.
