I just wanted to let you guys know that I love the show. Your honesty and sense of humor are quite charming and the level to which you interact with these apps really gives a prospective user a comprehensive understanding of the tool. Cheers!
Terrific. I love the human pace of your videos! Not trying to bust through all the features in 30 seconds, more like stopping by a friend's to check out some new stuff. And I agree- Samplr is absolutely brilliant. Now with audiobus, easy to get new samples in. cheers
I just got done watching all 20 shows over several days, oops I think I melted my brain! Nice work :) A couple of apps that have been around a while that I would like to see you look at in future episodes: Genome midi sequencer, which is an interesting mix of piano roll editor, pattern sequencer and stuff that has something in common with abletons clip view. Voice synth, a vocoder that is notable for its UI, various tune modes including auto-tune, sampler, range of presets and how it sounds.
guys, and especially nick: I love the formats you create and the style and way of presentation! keep up the good work! I would like to see more reviews of the cool elektron stuff, not only presentations but also a review by you (nick).
Found this video on Discchord's blog. Thought I'd check it out since I'm loving iPolySix. And then bam! My song shows up when you're checking the sharing page :P Had me a bit flustered. Nice review!
Samplr: my favorite, best looking, most usable app. At this point too, updates and all...makes my fellow musicians/even non-musicians envious ;) EVERY iOS MUSICIAN NEEDS THIS. Generates ideas, record in a scale/chords from guitar, vocals, whatever. So good.
For Apps like iPolysix or similar there are (at least for me) two basic requirements. The most important is midi sync for the app to be integrated into a live and studio setup. Less important is audiobus, but this is useful too. Of no importance at all is wist, as there is no reasonable way to synchronise for example a mpc or ableton to a wist setup. So please, whenever you introduce any synth or drum box or sequencer, please mention these two, audiobus an midi clock sync. Thank you Kris
One really cool feature in Samplr you missed is the random slice playback in the first mode, which comes in extremely handy if your sample is a loop coming from something like Figure/iKaossilator/Drumjam or really any well constructed loop. You can tell the app how many bars and beats the sample is to make the slices play back at the correct speed.
Guys great episode as always. I was just wondering if in the very near future a full episode (or maybe a larger segment of the show) could be dedicated to Audiobus. Yes, I know you've already reviewed the Audiobus app, just thought we could all benefit from more info as more apps are being "audiobussed".
Samplr seems like a hole lot of fun and a very useful tool in the studio it grasps what hardware samplers in my opinion miss an intuitive approach wich leads to much more creativity I think. I'm certainly going to buy samplr as well as the Ipolysix when I get my Ipad. Good review guys ;-)
Thanks for reviewing these apps. I'm more interested in Samplr now that you can sample real-time. I downloaded Borderlands and love it...but the steps to get you own sounds into it are really too much as you mentioned. I could see it being very useful to create alternate sounds from originals like vocals, guitar riffs, etc. but the input is too crazy. Along these lines, the immediate sampling of Samplr and SampleWiz put them in another class of realtime usefulness. Another great episode!
iPad One and Korgs iMS20 and iPolysix and Korgs microKey 25 make this now cheap products into full synthesizers with drum machines. Love it! (Also Sunrizer and Nanostudio still work with iPad one!)
Guys; Samplr is incredible (just bought it yesterday, so I haven’t explored it fully). As is, you can load it with WAV samples using iTunes file sharing, and then get audio using the headphone out / line out jack. Better still, in experimenting tonight it’s 100% compatible (though monophonic) with Focusrite’s new iTrack Dock for iPad (4th gen) / iPad Air / iPad Mini. So if you have need for pro audio ins and outs, there’s an option that isn’t too expensive. :-)
Great show guys! While all these apps are great I already get great sounds from my Little Phatty,Prohet08 and Nord electro. I would really like to use my iPad to record or sequence those rather than getting the sounds from the iPad itself. Could you do a comparisson between the alesis io dock and the tascam iu2. I’m pariculary interested in compatibility with newer ipads.
I’m planning to buy an Alesis io Dock and use Genome Midi Sequencer, Steppolyarp or Cubasis to replace the horrible arpeggiator on my prophet08. Could you do a review on those apps as well?
good show, chaps! I'm really diggin Magellan right now. also DXi is great for FM stuff. I keep going back to TweakyBeat for electronic drums. it's a monophonic drum synthesizer that is loads of fun. I fucking love that little app. I come up with a few drum sounds, beat fragments, etc., paste them together in a workstation app, and you're instantly rockin. iit has a viintage, yet timely, vibe to it. if you know any other drum SYNTHS out there, I would love to see a review!
Samplr: I know why I bought a lap steel now. ipolysix: I have it and they need to add a little drift to it because it feels canned after a couple measures. Other than that I honestly wanted a poly rebirth for ages so I can develop the same jaded confidence I have about creating mono riffs. Hi hat needs to choke badly.
@sonicstate... A "V-Control Pro" review especially with Ableton Live would be great. In my opinion V-Control is one of the most professional DAW remote apps out there but not very known. And thanks for your fantastic reviews! A+++
Really cool! Dig the show Music software is making "hardware" a thing of the past... Like dinosaurs! it's becoming cheap or inexpensive on a meager budget to put together a nice set-up just opened factory seal on KRONOS 73 key, feeling like apps or software is the direction to move forward in...... Hmmmmm
i have the ipolysix and like it qite abit...it's not perfect though!...the sequencer page is HIDEOUS!...very hard to see the TINY red virtual L.E.D.s on the horible piano page layout or on the drum layout and live recording using the keyboard is near always hit n miss with timing lag errors...the synth sound good though and the u.i. on the actual synth is good...it sounds good...hope Korg make a better updated edit page that people can actually do good work with!
maybe you should better know about the history of the products and inventors. The app is from Marcos Alonso, which is one of four designers of the REACTABLE, from 2003-2005 !!!! . it is pre touch and interactive like nothing before. So if you say, it looks like the OP1, you should better know, who and what is first. Its like forgetting leonardo d V when talking about helicopters.

Good episode, apps are getting more and more interesting as time goes on

Musix Pro - definitely worth checking out for future videos. All the best! :)

Excellent reviews as per usual, however any chance of looking into the WIST technology, and seeing if it can be used over more than two devices?
Gaz's track with Samplr reminds me a ton of the soundtrack for the indie game 'Anna.'

There are a bunch of midi cc's listed on pages 49 & 50 of the iPolysix manual thats built into the help system of the app.
Great show as always, please will you review the NLog midi synth.

Samplr now has Audiobus support which has for me significantly increased this wonderful app's usefulness.
Thanx for your great reviews!
Gaz, -you're a bit of a wiz! Making something sweet sounding with such ease. Great!
Love that Samplr, wet dreams of the eighties are becoming real.
Message to Korg boffins :- iWavestation (A/D) with multi-touch interface please!
samplr is what all apps should be like..it just works and it works well
Great episode!

^^ I should mention that I’ve only tested Samplr 1.3 and it’s compatible. I can’t say anything about what came earlier; I just got it.
Wow, ev-ery one of these Apps is a proper corker!
I must say I'm amazed that Borderlands is EIGHT flippin' years old! 'O.O'
Great show guys!

How about the best music apps for iPhone's little screen?
Great video! Thanks!
oh yeah! midi sequencers ala Genome? I'm a new viewer, sorry if you've already gone any of these routes.
Thx for the good reviews!
i realize it's kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Chris Alejandro I use flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Max Mario Yup, I've been watching on Flixzone for months myself :D
@Max Mario Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it !!
@Chris Alejandro happy to help :D
So as i thought - iPolysix acts actually the same way as nintendo's DS-10 is)) really nice app, and also quiet handy)
can you save whole sessions in Samplr or is it all as-you-go ?
Which microphone do you used to record to ipad?
Nice épisode ! Thanks.

Wait, did he just say “I’m Gaz Williams, SONG SURGEON”??
That is what I heard too! lol O~O

im getting dizzy looking at his hand movement
Borderland is not from this solar system :)
реально один в один с DS-10 сделали XDD
Hi sonicstate and friends.
Search: 'Hitler learns the truth about Logic Pro X'
I guess casio sk1 and yamaha vss type hardware is now totally pointless.
