Gotta love these small kits. The sound is incredible that comes out of 18" bass drums.I love my Brooklyn gretsch kit I bought from you guys.

I just bought the 20/10/12/14/14 studio pack. These drums are incredible for the price. They should be selling for twice as much, easily.

Thanks for sharing this. The low tuning is definitely in the neighborhood of where I want to get with mine. Bought this kit today along with some Zildjian K Custom Dark cymbals.

I have the bop version. I really appreciated this video, as it shows off the versatility of these drums. Only thing is I wish they used thicker triple flanged or die cast (ha!) rims on the toms as the rack tends to go out of tune for me. But; having owned a Catalina; I prefer these by a large margin; particularly the snare.

So; the floor, bass and snare definitely have air vents; cannot find one on the rack tom

@JAldwin Under the suspension mount.... at least in this photo.. Look closely and you can see the hole and grommet from the side views: www.thomannmusic.com/sonor_08_x07_aq2_tom_tom_tsb.htm

Millipedes66 I currently have a catlina club rock 24 & I'm not thrilled with the sound...I'm thinking of going for the Bop kit so I can take it to jam with my friends. What do you think of the sound quality of the Sonor compared to the Catalina?

The 18” bass drum is going to sound a lot different than the 24”, but you already know that.
I think it depends what kind of heads you use; if you use a thinner head; the difference in character between the maple/bearing edge of the sonor and the mahogany/bearing edge of the gretsch is easier to perceive. I recently put clear black dot heads on my AQ2 and damned if it doesn’t sound close to the Catalina I used to have: round warm and with a rounded attack. I think it speaks to the versatility of the AQ2.

Thanks. Love the high tuning playing and demo. Question for the bass drum - did you use a reg coated Remo Amb on the batter? Also, does the front logo head come with a plastic insert ring? (PS3 type) If so did you remove the ring for the high tuning part?

It looks like default heads. PS3 type on bass.

Steve, what’s the price on this drum set, with a snare drum and without a snare drum? They sound very nice, especially at the bop tuning. Very nice drums . Thanks, Chuck

I prefer these to the Catalinas, which I owned back in 2006. Aq2 much sharper attack; more versatile tuning range; better hardware and mounts. The finishes on the Catalinas are more striking; but I was looking for quality and simplicity there, so the transparent black on the Aq2 is awesome. Bottom line; Catalinas are fine but Aq2 is a lifetime kit for a hobbyist. A pro could use these with heavier hoops.
