As a mage player, whenever I face heroes with Radiant Armor, I prioritize base damage increase rather than penetration (i.e. Holy Crystal and Blood Wings). In contrast, I use magic penetration items (i.e. Genius Wand and Divine Glaive) against heroes with Athena Shield. If the enemy hero has both items, Radiant Armor and Athena, then I believe it's better to prioritize magic penetration items, especially Divine Glaive because the passive of Divine Glaive increases as the enemies' base magic defense increases. However, you can also choose to prioritize base damage increase if most of the enemy heroes are squishy and magic penetration if most of them are tank-y. Feel free to share/correct me if you believe otherwise.

Dear future team mates, do not rely on the recommended builds. Look at your team and opponents, their hero, play style, and their build. Strong micro game can become less if you have knowledge with proper itemization.
+ it may look like a hassle because manually switching builds in the middle of the game can distract you, but i have won many games because i used defensive items that countered the main damage of the enemies and i Swear manual building can benefit you a lot

This video reminds me of "ML Guide" channel. He is a new channel who also does really good guides for beginner. Nevertheless I wanna add few points from my experience.(specially for solo ranks). If you are tank, always buy radiant armor before athena. Because as tank you are not that squishy and can sustain longer in fights. If on squishy hero use athena and never use radiant armor(unless the enemy has harley, because harley basic attack is magic dmg, and his ultimate is delayed, which can waste athena passive), because athena shield passive is a real-life saver for squishy hero.
every hero is squishy even as tanks in the early game. so dont mention that just because youre a tank youre tanky as hell even from the start. some heroes have just insane damage that you cant just tank them at the start. so i dont think its a good advise that tanks shouldnt prioritize athena's shield as the first item against magic enemies.
I dnt know what to say about radiant armor but one thing I can Say is that Your Video really packs a punch, helps a lot to understand how items work.. Thanks Elgin
Elgin, you should have tested a level 15 dummy, the 3-10 mgc dmg red scales up with level. The dmg it reduced would've been 10 instead of 3 and creating a larger gap in the comparison.
Radiant armor and Athena's shield go so well together, you get a higher magic def and take less damage, it can lower the damage to 1, only against some heros but it's really helpful

It triggers third attack two times. And third attack speed increased by 100%. If you have full attack speed build then it won't matter so much basically for heroes who don't need crit damage

For conclusion: Athena's Shield is for burst damage (Eudora, Aurora, Vale), Radiant Armor is for damage overtime/continuous damage (Chang'e, Valir, Gord)

1st rule of using Golden staff is not to build it with critical items, because it will convert crit to attack speed.
