    I'd love to see/watch some videos about those who are on the hard of hearing spectrum who have important jobs like lawyers, doctors, etc. I'm so happy that Gallaudet University now has its first deaf president and that the students who go there were able to stand up for themselves in a very positive way in order to get the positive changes that they all wanted!!

      [Jill] Yes, maybe we can also do spotlights on current Deaf role models in different industries. Will add to the list! Thanks!

    You beat me to it! I was thinking about doing a Deaf history series too! Though I have thought about making it more international, such as the history of France and Deaf education with L'Épée, things like that and doing spotlight videos about certain people who really influenced history around the world.
    In 8th grade, I did a report on DPN. A lot of students were surprised to learn about it. Even my teacher didn't know about it, which was a bit strange, now that I think back on it.

      [Jill] Haha, great minds think alike. Many people are not aware of a lot of the history of their own country.

    Thank you! I'm hearing and want to learn about Deaf culture. I appreciate being able to listen to this information while I work. And later, I can watch so I can learn the signs you're using. ^_^

    Amazing that there hadn't been a Deaf president sooner. It seems like having a Deaf president would be the obvious choice because they would understand the students and teachers needs in the school.

      [Jenna] Exactly! Unfortunately, it is common in many Deaf educational institutions.

    Hi there! i love the video btw it teaches so much about the deaf culture. i am trying to teach myself to sign but for now im sticking to PSE until i can find a place around my area that teaches ASL. But the reason im writing today is because i have a question, when i see videos of people teach signs i see them doing it twice for example the sign for "know" they touch their temple with a b shape hand and they tap it twice. my question is; is that really necessary when signing to tap my temple twice or is it just once ok? is the same with a lot other once like if or fine or... of course i cant think of any more right now other than does three but in any case do i need to do it twice or just once is ok?

    • @TheStews
      @TheStews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      [Jenna] it really depends on which sign and what context. Sometimes I sign twice to put an emphasis on it. Sometimes sign something twice will give it a little different meaning. For example, word "know" you sign once, but "knowledge" usually means you tap twice. Taking ASL classes/lessons will help you learn more about that.

      ok i understand thanks! one more question because i dont want to be insulting anyone. Is it true that if i PSE deaf people wouldnt understand me and they will get offended? i yhink i heard or read that somewhere and i wanted to know because i dont want to be insulting anyone by pse but is the only thing i can learn right now on my one until i find a place to learn ASL but i really want to be able yo comunicate with deaf n hard of hearing

    • @TheStews
      @TheStews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not all Deaf people will find PSE insulting. Some can understand it fine and others won't. It really depends on individual. You can always say you are learning and most will be understanding and may help you with feedback.

    FYI, voice interpreter mispronounced the name of student leader Greg Hlibok as "Hill-Bok" but should be "Lie-Bok" (H is silent).

    ASAN(Autistic Self Advocacy Network) could learn from this scenario on what to do right when advocating for the needs of Autistic People instead of trying to buddy up to the very "entities" that is saying and doing the very same things as Elizabeth Spillman did(saying that we are a burden on our families and communities, having a neurotypical parent make comments about wanting to harm/kill their child(mind you while shes in the room). If it was not for DPN alot of changes would never have been made beyond just Gallaudet.
