I doubt that, although I wouldn't be surprised if Boris supporters voted for her for a similar outcome knowing Truss's policies came from 55 Tufton St. and not from 10 Downing St.

the thing is that it would be impossible for one person to inflict this magnitude of damage by themselves no matter how much they wanted to. The Tories have drained themselves of literally dozens of prospective cabinet ministers and PMs to the point where the remaining candidates they can put forward pretty much top out at him. Wanna know the worst part? Despite inflation being revealed to be 10.1% this week, the bank having to stop bailing out the government, the home sec getting fired, the chief whip resigning and hundreds of calls for Truss to go, the £ still hasn’t crashed abnormally this week.
This means that despite this week being one of the worst of this year and a week that’d, in most countries, be a governments make or break week, investors and traders haven’t reacted or run away. They weren’t fazed by this at all.
Just think about that for a second; the same people that start rewriting their wills every single time someone at the FED uses the loo, didn’t react to the literal real time collapse of a government. It’s insane, it’s unprecedented and it proves just how little they expect of the UK and the tories after the last few months

I mean I think it was more a case of 4th place Suella Braverman pretty much backing Truss in the immediate aftermath of Braverman's elimination that led to Truss (barely mind you) finishing second in the MP's vote. Truss owed her premiership in part to Braverman's supporters.
Braverman is now gone, after resigning/being fired yesterday from the position of Home Secretary and dropping a grenade of a resignation letter on the way out.
I mean former Truss supporters being angry makes sense. Truss and Kwasi didn't even tell the fellow cabinet members of some of the more extreme parts of her mini-budget, namely the parts that led the markets going into free fall.
Truss thought herself above her cabinet, above her MP's, above her party, above the markets, above the OBR, above the majority financial establishment, above the majority of her party members and above the British people. Liz Truss is probably the most arrogant PM this country has ever seen, and it backfired in her face spectacularly pissing every off in the process.

I think the theory is that rich people will invest the extra money into businesses which will create more jobs. But they might alternatively buy a yacht manufactured overseas which doesn't help the UK economy at all. There are such better ways to stimulate the economy, such as funding a bank to support small business investment loans, or building infrastructure. Government should just do the things that need to happen instead of giving money to rich people in the hope that they will do the things that need to happen if you just wish hard enough.

That’s definitely the “theory”. Trickle down theory, but like social darwainism it’s twisted logic meant to support evil behavior. You don’t invest in a business because you have money - you invest because your business has more demand you need to meet. Without the demand, there’s no reason to invest. So the only way to spur development is to spend - buy product, buy services, give money to those who will buy: the poor and middle class. The money will make its way to the rich, but they will have to invest it to meet demand.

Ah, Liz Truss! Unpopular among those of the public who knew who she was, unpopular among MPs, but weirdly appealing to the sort of vibes-over-data self-destructive loon that forms the general bulk of Tory party membership. Great choice for Prime Minister, perfect representative of the party as a whole.

It's one of those things where I just can't understand for the life of me, why the larger tory membership ever went for her. There's daft and then there's astronomically daft.
Rishi always looked the better choice and him basically predicting our current situation only strengthens that point.

the thing is it wasnt clear that she will go ahead crashing the economy. i am no tory voter, but i thought its all lipservice and once the treasury tells her and her chancellor what they are doing, then she would slow down a bit or at least delay it to say ‘turbulent times, the legislation is ready, but we must do it when inflation is back on track’
i foolishly expected her to be like any other politician: promise the unicorn, deliver a can of spam.
but ‘credit’ to her: she is probably the first PM who does what exactly promised: crash the economy.
in way… well… well done! (on the other hand she should be prosecuted for gross misconduct on public finances)
